This is the first block of the 4/8-grid sampler. I’m hoping to make 12-16 super-sized blocks to finish with a queen sized quilt. If you download these instructions, and end up making up some of the blocks, I would be thrrilled if you sent me an email at

Fabric Requirements:
Print 1 (purple) - 10” x 10” scrap Print 2 (blue) - 10” x 10” scrap Solid/Background (white) - 1/4 yd, 1 Fat Quarter, or 20” x 10” piece
Cutting Directions:
4.5” x 4.5” - cut 4
5” x 5” - cut 4
5” x 5” - cut 4
Make Half-Square Triangles:
Layer one 5”x5” blue square and one 5”x5” white square. Draw a line from corner to corner. Sew 1/4” from each side of the line you just drew. Cut through the center drawn line. Fold triangle out into a square and press toward the blue/dark fabric. Trim to 4.5” square.
Sew Together:
Sew squares together to form rows, press in direction of arrows. Sew rows together, press in direction of arrows.
4.5” x 4.5” - cut 4
5” x 5” - make 4
4.5” x 4.5” - make 8
