CLUB NEWS COMMISERATIONS
Commiserations to the club's minor hurlers who started their championship campaign with an away defeat against Raheny. In the absence of Barry Kehoe and Seamus Reynolds they suffered a 1-12 to 0-8 defeat. They have a bye at the next stage of the competition and face Erin's Isle in their next outing in two weeks time. INTER HURLERS SEE OFF RAHENY
Goals either side of half time from Brian MacLaughlin and Barry Finn allowed the intermediate hurlers to claim a hard earned two point win over Raheny in the Community Centre tonight (Tues Aug 22). MacLaughlin crowned a lively display with his early goal after dispossessing the visiting goalkeeper. Second half sub Finn struck late on after Raheny had edged ahead and his effort, stabbed home from close range, proved vital and keeps the team's championship hopes alive. Strong showings from Eoin Moran at centre back and the midfield duo of Eoin Walsh and Eoin Moran also helped. The next outing is a home clash with Kevin at 6.0pm on Saturday in the Community Centre. 4

point with the away team. Despite strong defending from Eimear McGrath and Natasha Daly in the half back line, the speed of one of the half forward line was unmatchable. Catherine Roche tallied 4 points in the opening half; Emily Hamill and Gillian Dowling also added points. Suzanne Murray had a woman of the match game in midfield catching and breaking nearly every kick out from the Brigids goal. The pitch was a narrow pitch, and the lack of space proved crucial with the Towers ladies. In the first half alone, the away team recorded 12 wides. Towers were awarded a penalty chance in the first half, but following the pattern it was put wide. Just before half time Catherine Roche ensured a goal with a shot to the bottom right corner that was nicely assisted by Annette Harrington at full forward. Towers entered the second half with a different attitude. The girls were more alert and were first to every ball for the opening ten minutes. Natasha Daly, Suzanne Murray and Emily Hamill all registered points giving Towers a comfortable lead. The lead was significantly reduced when Towers conceded three goals, one a penalty. Aisleen Milton and Maria Kavanagh were strong in the second half, along with excellent fielding from Amanda Murray. Hannah Tyrell had a stormer in midfield, with encouraging solo runs but unfortunately on the day her shooting boots were left in the dressing room. Hannah was always available for a pass, and showed real talent. Gillian Dowling completed the victory with a well-put away goal in the closing minutes. Suzanne Murray added a well-worked point that started from an interception in the full back line by Susan Kavanagh. Louise O’Neill added her own point, followed by a point from Annette Harrington. Overall it was a weak victory compared to the usual standards of the team but a victory is a victory.
The county board has informed the club that we are likely to get a third of the ticket allocation received for last weekend’s quarter-final meeting with Westmeath. A one ticket per paid up member policy is likely to be enforced and a list will be posted in the club as normal.
ON THE PITCH
Well done to the senior footballers who scored league wins over St Mark's and St Mary's to move to the summit of the league table alongside St Jude's. The AFL 4 team beat Good Counsel and O'Dwyers to move in the same direction while points from meetings with O’Dwyers and Liffey Gaels boosted the AFL 8 team's challenge. The AFL 12 team suffered a home defeat against Ballyboughal.

Towers opened their Minor Hurling Championship with a defeat in St Annes last Sunday morning. Towers would have been favourites going into the game but over the hour last Sunday there can be no complaints. Raheny were the better side and took their scores well. Towers had chances but poor shooting and bad wides left us with too much to do. The only goal of the game came early the first half as Raheny scored from a 20m free straight to the net. Thereafter Towers always looked the more likely to score a goal but we just could not finish any of the four chances that came our way. Ultimately a poor start for our hurlers but at least we have a chance to put this right. Ballinteer and Clanna Gaels have been added into the B Championship and our next match is away to Clanna Gaels in Ringsend on Wednesday 30/8/06. This is a tough game for us as we have never beaten Clans in Ringsend in 3 meetings to date.....but we know what we have to do. Best of luck to the Minor Footballers in their knockout Championship game next Sunday away to St Annes. I hope everyone will start to come out and support both Minor teams in this years Championship.
The next outing is Captain’s day (Gerry McCabe) at Beechpark on Thursday 7th September. This outing will be friendly. Sponsored by our very own John Curran T.D.
