Round Tower Golf Society OUTINGS FOR THE YEAR 2005

15th October – Saint Margarets 9.57am-12.03pm 12th November – Elm Hall 11am1.15pm (9 Hole turkey shoot). SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP REPLAY REPORT FROM THE HILL 16 WEB PAGE 24/09/05 ROUND TOWERS 1-8 Na Fianna 3-10 A strong scoring burst at THE polar ends of this Dublin SFC quarter-final on Tuesday night in Parnell Park ensured that Na Fianna make it to the last four where St Jude’s await. Within the opening 70 seconds Jason Sherlock had 1-1 in his credit and when Des Macken rumbled the ball over the line in the 12th minute the Mobhi Road side led 2-3 to 0-1. However, Towers came back down the field with corner-forward Stephen McGibney also finishing to the net in very unorthodox fashion and points followed from Ian Ward (free) and Derek Byrne (two, one free) to close the gap to 2-3 to 1-4. Na Fianna had slipped out of the game in the middle sector of THE field and Towers began to really control the breaking ball. After trailing 2-5 to 1-6 at halftime Towers was level within nine minutes of the restart. Na Fianna had

a couple of goal chances but Pat McGeeney hit the crossbar while his brother Kieran blasted just wide at the end of a great move involving Karl Donnelly and Dessie Farrell. A Kevin O’Neill free nosed Na Fianna in front before Peter Caffrey made a great block tackle save to deny Sherlock of his second goal. Over the final six minutes Na Fianna showed the greater experience to tag on the insurance scores including two from sub Brian Courtney who once again was lively when introduced. Na Fianna’s third goal was disaster from a Towers perspective when Caffrey’s short kickout went straight to O’Neill who lobbed the ball to the net from 30 metres to make the final scoreline very flattering to the winners. The Teams and Scorers: Round Towers:

P Caffrey; D Verso, S Halpin, Darren Byrne; I Ward (0-1f), T Kelly, B Costello; D Murray 01, E Moran; P McGrane, G Ramsbottom 0-1, C Corrigan; Derek Byrne 0-3 (0-2f), J Gavin, S McGibney 1-1 (0-1f). Subs: J O’Brien 0-1 for McGrane, P Lawlor for Moran, M Taylor for Corrigan. Na Fianna:

S Grey; E McNulty, E Ledwith, A Downes; N Cooper 0-1, K McGeeney, S Cloherty; K Donnelly, J McNulty; K O’Neill 1-2 (0-2f), T Brady 0-1, S Connell 0-1; D Macken 1-0, D Farrell, J Sherlock 1-3. Subs: McGeeney for Downes,

P B Courtney 0-2 for Macken, R Clerkin for Donnelly. Report From

JUNIOR B CAMOGIE LEAGUE 25/09/05 ROUND TOWERS 7-6 Saint Peregrines 1-4 The Junior B Camogie team clinched the league last Sunday with an impressive score of 76 to 1-4 for Peregrines. It was no more than this team deserved having only lost two games in the entire year. We found ourselves under great pressure for the first 20 minutes and Sarah Callanan was called upon to make quite a few saves. Sarah has a bright future in Camogie and is a gifted player whether it be in goal or outfield. Our backs started to get on top with Joanne Shields and Louise O’Neill playing stormers. It is good to see Vickie Ivors making a breakthrough on to the junior team and she had a fine game at corner back, along with Jenny Byrne who played well until injured. Our Midfield pair of Niamh Murphy and Niamh Drummond started to take control with Niamh Drummond 6

scoring a fantastic goal after a wonderful solo. Our forwards were led by the (ever young) Val Kelly. Finishing on a total of 3-2 you can tell that she destroyed the Peregrines defence. She was ably assisted by Teresa Gallagher (2-0), Danielle Campbell (0-1) Andrea Wynne (01) and team captain for the league Ciara Ni Riain (0-1). Danielle Leonard, on her return from injury, also scored a cracker of a goal. Other Players working hard were Coleen Dunne, Claudia Flynn and Rosanna Ni Dhonnagain. Our subs of Caoimhe Joyce, Caroline Tormey, Carol Dunphy and Koren Smith made a very strong contribution when introduced. There will be a medal presentation night in the club at a later stage. We were missing Mary Dowds, Emer Lynch, Alicia Browne and Karina Connolly. Many thanks to the mentors of Damien Leonard and Martina Callanan and for the invaluable assistance of Denis Callanan throughout the year.

Eoin Ryan.

DON’T FORGET YOUR TESCO VOUCHERS UNDER 14 FOOTBALL DIVISION 6 24/09/05 ROUND TOWERS 5-11 Na Fianna 3-5 The team had a good win on Saturday beating Na Fianna B 5-11 TO 3-5 in Moyle Park. With outstanding performances from Richie Doyle, Cathal McGrath, Alfie Henzl and Ciaran Carr while goalkeeper Mark Drumm performed well in his new position of Goalkeeper and could not be faulted for the three goals that passed him. This win puts Towers in the running for league honours with remaining matches due against , St

Marys ,St. Oliver Plunketts, and O'Tooles and if these games are won then the league will be decided in an away game in Malahide against League leaders St. Sylvesters who recently beat St. Peregrines to win the under 14 Championship. Training every Wednesday evenings from 6 till 7 in the Community Centre. Report By

Round Tower GAA club is next on their list. The innovative scheme, which offers subscribers reduced call packages AND the chance to divert a percentage of their bill towards the club, is now available to 'Towers members. The club aims to contact members over the coming weeks through an information pack outlining exactly what's involved. Club members are not obliged to join but the club anticipates a healthy response to a scheme that has proved to be a massive hit elsewhere. The club registrar is currently in the process of collating missing addresses from the club membership database but club members and supporters can themselves contact Gaelic Telecom themselves should they desire. A number have already. Full contact details are available on www.gaelictelecom.ie Any queries in relation to this scheme may be directed to the club secretary.
