Cumann an Chloigthí: 1-10 Naomh Olaif: 2-7 'Towers revisited the site of their relegation from the top flight two years ago when they opened this year's league campaign with a trip to Wedgewood and on reflection it was a game they might have taken both points from. It may have taken a late Justin McGrane free to level the game but a Towers team that found the scores easier to come by could feel aggrieved not to have taken the two points on offer. Despite a disastrous start which saw the Clondalkin men concede a first minute goal some excellent first half scores - most notably from Brian Dunne - hauled Towers back into the hunt 3

and by half time they were in the ascendancy at 0-7 to 1-2. Giving as good as they got at centre field Towers held the upper hand before conceding another late goal to leave them on the back foot and staring defeat in their first outing. Only a strange refereeing decision prevented Mark Healy from capitalizing on a one on one situation with the Olaf's net-minder after a clever ball from Fergal Dardis. But late points from Ciarán Corrigan and McGrane added to an earlier penalty conversion by Brian Dunne ensured a draw. Cumann an Chloigthí: P Caffrey; D Verso, C Halpin, D Byrne; P Clifford, U Keane, D Costello; F Dardis, Damien Murray; C Corrigan, J Gavin, C Keane; M Healy, B Dunne, J Mc Grane. Round Tower 4-15 Ballyboden St. Enda‟s 0-02 Round Tower Ladies under the guidance of new manager Marie Crotty set their season off to a winning start on Wednesday last with a comprehensive win over Ballyboden St. Enda‟s. Towers dominated the play throughout the game and produced some fantastic movements. Scores in the first half came from Sinead Kenny, Catherine Roche and Aisleen Milton whilst the only goal of the half came from Suzanne Murray who was quick to react from a rebounded effort on goal. The Towers defence, which included Annette Harrington deputising between the posts, remained solid right the way through the game particularly the full back line of Susan Kavanagh, Caitriona Mc Grath and Amanda Murray. The second half saw Towers convert more of their chances. Goals came from Kenny, Roche and Hamill whilst the attacks from the midfield pairing of Maria „Bangers‟ Kavanagh and Emma Redmond kept the Ballyboden defence under constant pressure. Well done to new debutantes Aisling Kavanagh and Sinead McNulty. Next week‟s game should prove a tougher challenge where Towers travel to take on a talented Naomh

Mearnog side. Congratulations to Maria Kavanagh and Emma Redmond who represented the Dublin Senior Ladies on Sunday but unfortunately lost out to All-Ireland Champions Laois. Tower Ladies Next games are away to Naomh Barróg on April 17th and home to Ballinteer St. John on April 24th. All Support Welcome. Team: Annette Harrington,

Congratulations to: Gina Tyson, Mary Chapman, Margaret Maloney, Catriona McGloin & Marie Brown who were the five one hundred € winners. NEXT WEEKS JACKPOT €6,600 JUNIOR A FOOTBALL LEAGUE 7/4/02 Round Towers: 2 - 7; Lucan Sarsfields: 0 - 4 Round Towers Junior 1 team got their League campaign off to a winning start with a good win over Lucan Sarsfields in Monastery Road on Sunday morning. The game was played in perfect conditions for football with Towers enjoying wind advantage in the first half.

In the opening minutes, Towers were on top but following wides from Carl McGrane and Stephen McGibney, the game was still scoreless with almost 10 minutes elapsed. Then a delightful movement saw Adam Fogarty gain possession on the 45m line. He dispatched the ball to Paul Burke, who quickly punch-passed to Stephen McGibney clean through in front of goal. He beat the goalkeeper easily for the opening score. A minute later, Ger. Hickey was fouled and Paul Lanigan pointed the resultant free from 40m. On 14 minutes, Stephen McGibney pointed from play after a good build-up by Ben Price and Paul Burke. Sarsfields then opened their account with a point before McGibney pointed a free after a foul on Paul Burke. The final score of the half came from a Lucan free on 18 minutes. Half - time score: Towers 1 - 3; Sarsfields 0 - 2. Any worries Towers might have had that their half-time lead was not sufficient were quickly dispelled shortly after the restart. Paul Lanigan pointed a long-range free following a foul on Carl McGrane. This was followed by an excellent goal from Ben Price. Man of the match, Stephen McGibney was the main architect, securing possession around the middle of the field and making ground before sending a precise pass to Ben Price, who had broken away from his marker. Price's shot gave the goalkeeper no chance. On 10 minutes, McGibney was fouled and duly slotted the free. Lucan then doubled their score with 2 pointed frees. Towers, however, finished strongly with Carl McGrane crowning a fine display by scoring 2 quality points from play. Towers defence was rock solid throughout with the full back line of Alan Milton, John Egan and John Ryan snuffing out any threat in front of goal. Ger. Minehane and Carl McGrane played well in midfield, whilst up front, the forwards combined well to execute some fine scores. All in all, an encouraging start, which can only improve with proper commitment throughout the season from the whole panel of 23/24 players. Team: Keith Graham, Alan Milton, John Egan, John Ryan, Stephen Alexander, Paul Lanigan (0 - 2), Mark O'Connor, Carl McGrane (0 - 2), Ger. Minahan, Barry Gallagher, Gerri Hickey, Stephen McGibney (1 - 3), Adam Fogarty, Paul Burke, Ben Price (1 - 0). 4

Round Towers 3-14 Inisfails 0-1 League campaign off to a winning start on Sunday. What can only be described as a powerful performance, Towers eased away with some wonderful scores. Paul Tyrrell started the ball rolling with a delightful score from play followed shortly later with a well-taken point from Aidan Dardis. The First half ended with what has to be described as the score of the Day, from the Full back line to Paul Tyrell in 3 superb passes and finished off with poise by Paul. With Innisfails still scoreless at the restart, Towers kept the pressure on and within 10 minutes had put up a further 2 – 4 and left Innisfails with their spirit broken. What better way for the

game to end, than with the opening scorer finishing with yet another classic score “ Well done Paul Tyrrell” . Training resumes this Tuesday and Thursday up in the Community Centre @ 7.00 and this Sunday sees us away to St Mary‟s of Saggart in the O‟Broin Cup. Teams; Michael O’Shea, Brendan

Maher, Davie Carr, Johnny Coleman, Andrew McCabe, Simon Breslin, Willie Kennedy, Conor Kirwin, Barry Quinlan, Paul Tyrrell ( 1-5), Ray Davis (1-5), Eoin Cowap (0-1), Noel Quinlan ( 1-1), Mark Bassett, Aidan Dardis (0-2). Subs; Rory Dunne for Mark Bassett, Niall Connaughton for Barry Quinlan, Robbie Foran for Eoin Cowap.

Round Towers 3-11 Parnells 1-6 On Sunday morning at 11am in the community centre Round Tower GAA club sent out their FIRST minor hurling team to play championship since 1983. The opposition today was Parnells the interest was evident with a good crowd of supporters arriving on the field. The weather was great with the sun shining and the pitch in perfect condition for hurling. The game started with no delays and the Tower’s men had their last team talk with Pat Lawless and Dinny Kiely. The first half of the game was so close all the way through it that no one could predict who would prove victorious. Parnells got some great points with the wind. Round Tower got back scores before half time Round Tower Brian Mac Laughlin scored a pt. from a free and Douglas Faughnan got a great point from 45 yards out! Eoin Walsh replaced Simon Nevin at wing forward and minutes later scored a great point from play to keep the scores tight. Towers got a few scores before half time, but 5 minutes before the end, Parnells full forward got a 50/50 clash with our full back Dave Finneran and the Parnell man came out on top with a

goal which if I see another like it this year ill be doing well! It was a superb goal with the ball hitting James Clark’s top left-hand corner of the net at an extraordinary speed. The half ended with Parnells leading 1-5 to round towers 0-5 points. The second half was due to start and everyone was predicting the outcome, as the sides were so close and evenly matched. With a few choice words from Pat and Dinny, the lads psyched themselves up for the task. Straight from the throw-in the Tower’s men played with sheer determination and class. Each man held his own on the field. Brian MacLaughlin scored another 2 pts. And Sean McDonald leveled the scores with a pt. A big performance from Ian Ward in the back line helped keep the ball in the Parnell half. Ian then took a 65yrd free, which magically dropped into the Parnell net over the goalie’s head. This raised an excited cheer from Tower’s fans. Then Towers continued to dominate the game, which saw Parnell’s forwards unable to get away from Towers backs. It was a pleasure to watch the likes of Ian Church mark his man so tightly, as did all the backs. The game continued at a high level with serious scores from the Towers lads. Sean McDonald and Eoin Walsh both scoring terrific goals. Liam Connolly was switched into the full forward line tactically, winning possession and scores. At the final whistle the supporters cheered their delighted team. Parnells showed appreciation for Towers performance as they shook hands. I spoke briefly with the ref and mentor of the opposing team. The referee reckoned it was the best game he did this year, which ended 3-11 to 1-6 I finally want to thank all who came and supported the team, and hope this will continue. Thanks also to chairman Liam MacLaughlin for his support and kind words to the team, and for the refreshments. Thanks also to Ann Lawless for preparing the food for the players. Also thanks to Pat Lawless and Dine Kiely for all their work, which is definitely paying off. To the players named below, who at the end of the day are the most important!!! 5

Round Towers 5-10 Naomh Olaf 1-6 Minor Girls On Fire!! Round Tower‟s minor girl‟s opened their league campaign on April 8th at Wedgewood with a superb performance to overpower a useful Naomh Olaf team. Towers opened the game with a point from Emily Hamill only to be rocked back on their heels by a Naomh Olaf goal. Towers rose to the challenge with points from Emily Hamill, Sinéad Tucker, Grace Lanigan and Laura Daly. Olafs replied with 2 points to level the score. A Towers goal followed when Emily Hamill placed a quick free to Emma Redmond who crashed the ball into the Olafs net. A further point from Emily Hamill was followed by a great goal by the brilliant Andrea Bowe playing at left half back. Towers led at half time by 2-6 to 1-2. The second half saw the Towers girls move up a few gears and give an exhibition of attacking football. Led by Emma Redmond at midfield and Sinéad Tucker who tormented Olafs with her

direct solo runs. Sinéad twice had the ball in the Olafs net only to be unfairly denied by the referee for over carrying. Emma Redmond scored a goal and three points in the first 15 minutes to put the issue beyond doubt. Emily Hamill knocked over a point before Natasha Daly a half time sub helped herself to two great goals. Towers ran out easy winners by 5-10 to 1-6. Players to shine in defence were Amy Geragthy, Caitríona O‟ Neill, Ciara Lanigan and Andrea Bowe. All in all an excellent performance from a squad full of talent and potential. For player of the match I could not separate Andrea Bowe and Sinéad Tucker for the heart, skill and talent they displayed. Andrea is still under 14 and Sinéad under 16. Keep it going girls, we are on our way!! Scorers: Emma Redmond 2-3, Natasha Daly 2-0, Emily Hamill 04, Andrea Bowe 1-0, Grace Lanigan 0-1, Laura Daly 0-1, Sinéad Tucker 0-1. Team Lisa Gregg, Amy Geragthy, Caitríona O’ Neill, Danielle Campbell, Ciara Lanigan, Pamela Dunne (Captain), Andrea Bowe, Grace Lanigan, Emma Redmond, Lisa Carey, Emily Hamill, Sinéad Tucker, Laura Daly, Aisleen Milton, Caroline Brett. Towers. The Half time score 2-8 to 0-1. The second half started with Clanna Gael having the wind, they played better but we continued to dominate. Douglas Faughnan and Eoin Moran controlled centre field with 5 pts from Douglas. A great performance from newcomer Paul Carroll at corner back. Unfortunately Niall Corless received an injury to the hand. Niall played to the end only to discover he had broken a bone! We wish him a speedy recovery. This game ended Towers 3-12 Clanna Gael 1-3. I am looking forward to the next round as this team is looking good, thanks to Pat Lawless and Dinny Kiely and their panel of players. WELL DONE!!!!!! TEAM: J. CLARKE, P.CARROLL

Round Towers 3-12 Clanna Gael 1-3

Round Towers 2-14 Good Counsel 2-4

On Saturday last Round Tower played the first round in the under 16 hurling championship against Clanna Gael in Moyle pk. Round Towers have already won their first 2 league games and I would expect them to do well in the championship. This they did with a great performance against Clanna Gael, on their home ground. From the start Towers scored without any problems from the opposition. Every game this year has been high scoring, with a personal tally from Brian McLoughlin of 2-5, this game was looking good for

Now that the Easter eggs have been all gobbled up, it is now back to more serious competitions. Last Sunday round one of the Pat Donovan Shield was played. The 2 best cards from 3 rounds will determine the winner and after last Sunday Freddie Shields has put it up to all of us when he returned with 40pts. So with this standard set, the returns over the next 2 Sundays should be very interesting indeed. Our trip to Waterford is now finalised and no more bookings will be accepted. Members who are bringing Wives etc should pay for them as soon as possible as there is only a little over 2 6

Scores: T. Allen/V.Kelly 1.0 T. Kelleher 1.1 N. Kearney 0.4 M.Kennedy 0.6 T. Egan 0.1 A. Darbey 0.2 Both teams got off to a slow start and it took the back line a little while to settle. Niamh Kearney opened the scoring with a fine point and the game was on!!! Good Counsel came back with a quick point and a goal but the Towers girls did not lose their heads!!. Trish Egan scored a wonderful point

from a ground stroke, was it the Red Bull that gave her wings....... Darbey was on scoring form as well with 2 points before the whistle blew for half time. The half time score was 1.6 to Towers and 1.3 to the visiting team so both teams knew it was going to be tight in the second half. Grace (the Keeper!!) made a fab save early in the 2nd half and had many great puck outs through out the 60 minutes. We would like to welcome back Tonya Allen who played her first game in the Towers colours for many years. She was playing half back although with a wonderful ball from far out the field managed to score a goal (or did Valerie get a touch to it before it went in!!!) The back line kept a tight defence through out the second half and marking was tight. The forwards and mid field were unstoppable for the last 20 minutes of the second half and Towers had a convincing win. Miriam was on fire with 6 great points from play but also very worthy performances were put in from the 2 Trisha's and Niamh Kearney. The team would like to thank Eoin for his great training sessions and his support on the side line. All 18 girls played their part in this great victory, we are all looking forward to the next game!!! Report by
