Round Tower GAA Club: Thank You A message to Members & the wider Clondalkin community from club chairman Tony Delaney: I wish to take this opportunity to extend a very big thank you to our Members and the wider Clondalkin community who made Sunday such a brilliant and memorable success. The superb turnout reflected immense local pride and support for Jim and the Dublin footballers. It will be an event that will be remembered and recalled for many years. Thank you to those who helped plan the event and the stewards who volunteered their time to assist in ensuring it went smoothly. Thanks to local people and businesses who assisted us in accommodating Sunday’s event and also to An Garda Síochána. A special thank you to Vincent Dolan and Clondalkin Youth Band who brought a carnival atmosphere that helped create such a memorable occasion. On behalf of the club I extend our gratitude to Jim and the Dublin team for the courtesy and friendliness they extended to club Members and the Clondalkin community on Sunday. It highlighted what fantastic ambassadors they are for the GAA and quiet rightly, the people of Clondalkin are immensely proud of Jim. As a club, we are extremely proud of being an integral part of the Clondalkin community and it was fantastic to see the numbers who turned out to show their appreciation for the team, Jim and also Frank Roebuck. It reflects a keen interest within the town for Gaelic Games and this is a source of great pride. We will continue to strive to harness this enthusiasm to its full potential and develop ambassadors both young and old who will bring great pride to the area through their representation of Clondalkin on GAA playing pitches. We can only do this through the commitment and time that is very generously afforded to us by the excellent volunteers who mentor, play and work tirelessly for the club. I extend a sincere thank you to all and say to the wider community young and old you are very welcome to Round Tower GAA Club in a playing, volunteering or social capacity. I’d urge local people who have not seen our new state-of-the-art playing facilities on Monastery Road to visit them one Saturday morning where you will see young kids learning the skills of GAA and forging friendships in a fun, friendly setting. Míle Buíochas. 2

CLUB NEWS
Round Towers members and the wider Clondalkin community turned out in force on Sunday evening to welcome Jim Gavin, Frankie Roebuck and the Dubs to the village and club. Many thanks to all and especially all those who volunteered their time to ensure the homecoming was a great success. 5
GAELIC 4 MOTHERS PLAY CROKE PARK Congratulations to Round Tower Gaelic 4 Mothers who played in Croke Park at half time of the All-Ireland Ladies Final on 29th September. Twenty-five ladies traveled on the day but unfortunately only ten could play. The team was managed on the day by Marie Crotty and Sharon Jordan. Congratulations ladies.
CIARAN CARR FOUNDATION – 10K WALK/FUN RUN - OCTOBER 19TH Dublin Senior Football Manager Jim Gavin lent his support to a 10k Fun Run/Walk being held in order to place a defibrillator in each of the 26 schools in the Clondalkin area. The Fun Run/Walk will take place on the 19th October in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin at 1pm. The registration fee is €25 and this includes a timing chip and a specially designed running top provided on the day. Entrants are advised to register online. This can be done by logging on to www.ciarancarrfoundation.ie and following the link or alternatively get in contact with the Foundation on Facebook or Twitter. The Laurels Pub has a fantastic reputation within the local community for the charity work they carry out on a yearly basis in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin. Ciarán held a part time job here for a number of years prior to his death and the management and staff take a keen interest in the work of the Foundation. The Laurels Charity Crew and the Foundation recognize that there is a critical shortage of defibrillators in schools, not only within the Clondalkin community but also on a national level. Philip Carr, Ciarán’s father said: “The Foundation is delighted to have the opportunity to work with the Laurels Charity Crew on this worthy project. “Ciarán died while training with his senior football teammates, however, this could easily have happened during his time in school during a PE session or other extra curricular activities.
ON THE PLAYING FIELD
Best of luck to the junior hurlers who face Thomas Davis in O’Toole Park next Sunday at 3pm in championship final. “Given the sheer number of children and young adults attending schools in the local community, having a defibrillator to hand in case of an emergency is vitally important and can increase that persons chances of survival. “Whether you want to run or walk on the 19th October we hope that you will join us and register for the event and do something which has never been done in Ireland, put a defibrillator in every school in a community.” Jim Gavin added: “This community knows only too well the devastating impact Sudden Adult Death Syndrome can have. In April I helped Gemma and Philip, Ciarán’s parents, launch the Foundation and I am delighted to be here lending my support to this Fun Run/Walk. “This project will encourage people within this community and hopefully others further afield to think about cardiac safety within schools. “Teachers, parents and students of all ages should take part in this project because it all comes down to one very simple fact, defibrillators save lives.” For more information contact

Our lads went out to play Clontarf on Saturday 28th and this encounter was the match of the year so far. The Clontarf boys were a very tidy unit and had their game down to a tee and pressed towers hard... for most of the first half. The lads battled hard throughout and managed to keep it very close at half time only down by a point. half time score towers 1g 3 p to Clontarf 0g 7p. The second half was a curious mixed of soft frees against towers which set the boys on tender hooks, but they played some of the finest hurling to date to net some quick scores against the northsiders which had them on the back foot for large parts of the second half, Clontarf had a ten minute purple patch but failed to impress on the scoreboard. The mighty towers withstood the onslaught and even picked up a few more scores and kept the sea-siders to three points in the second half. Mooneys man of the match Joe Murray with some fine scores but more importantly had to do a lot of leg work throughout. Worthy mention to Alex Judge who also done his fair share of the donkey work throughout. final score Round Towers 4g 6p V Clontarf 0g 10p Towers abú
