Beattie PTO Meeting Minutes Monday, April 10th, 2017 Welcome, Introductions and Call to Order • 13 members in attendance Vote on last month’s meeting minutes • Correction: Beattie made 1000 UPC, not $1000 on box tops. We will actually bring in around $60. • Lindsay made a motion to pass the minutes, seconded by Amy, motion passed Principal Report (Mr. Bailey) • 4th Quarter is off and running. • Talent Show was exciting. Thank you Emily for organizing this event! • UNL Big Event was a huge hit. We added $2000 worth of dirt to the playground. • Mr. Bailey suggested a Walking Club from 7:45-8:00 in the mornings as the weather gets nicer to help with drop off and excess energy. • Mr. Bailey requested the inflatable for Field Day. It will be around $600. Can we approve it for this year and add it as a Field Day item annually. Courtney made a motion to pass the motion. Tish seconded the motion. Motion passed. • Eight teachers are going to the Regional BIST conference at the end of April. • 11 out of 18 classroom teachers have their Master’s Degrees. 15 out of all 27 teachers have their Master’s Degrees. The Teacher Report (Mrs. Heckman) • 2nd Grade is learning about garbage and recycling and have some presenters coming to share with them. • 3rd Grade is getting their eggs this week and will be travelling to Morrill Hall. • April is National Library Month. Fun things are going on in the Media Center. • Cans for Book month-Please donate any aluminum soda cans to the Media Center or A-Can Recycling (3255 S. 10th St) • Pop Open a Book to Read, Thursday, April 27th toward the end of the day. Treasurer’s Report (Craig Wacker) • It is looking how it should. We didn’t get a huge response, but we got about $124 in memberships from our last membership push. • Emily would like to increase Staff Appreciation budget to $2000. She would also like to request $1000 to launch the Makerspace club. We also want to include the before school Walking Club. • Craig will work on the proposed budget for next year by the May meeting. • Courtney made the motion to pass the report and Valery seconded the motion. Motion passed. Other Items: Technology Presentation (Angie Heckman) • Beattie would like to keep moving forward with our technology growth to benefit students. • Some things that staff could use would be 5 Chromebooks, 4 iPads, and headphones for Special Education. The Specialist could use two Chromebooks and an iPad. Teachers could also use support for funds for the Educational Applications. All of these requests would be $4254.41. • PTO suggested looking for Fund-A-Need or a technology grant/matching program partnership with outside agencies. Kristin and Craig will work on a proposed budget for the next meeting. • A request was made to include the Budget Checkbook balance in the minutes each month. PTO Calendar Dates (Lindsay Rogers) • Get all dates for 2017-2018 for the Beattie Calendar ASAP! Committee Chairs • Valerie made a motion to pass the committee chairs. Mr. Bailey seconded the motion. Motion passed. LPS District PTO Meetings (Lindsay Rogers) • There are LPS PTO meetings. The next one is February 21 at 7pm at the LPS District Office 5909 O Street if anyone wants to attend. NEW PTO WEBSITE!!!! (Dave Beatty) • Dave will have our new Beattie web-site up and running by the fall. He will work on it throughout the summer. • Audition forms will go out before Spring Break. The dates will run in several Tribunes • Auditions are set tentatively for Tuesday 3/21 and Wednesday 3/22 after school. Auditions are only to ensure the performer is prepared, and the performance is appropriate for the elementary audience. No one will be turned away. Spanish Club (Courtney Hilebrict) • The Spanish Institute is part of the Spanish Embassy is wanting to start classes for the schools, but they are not there yet.

The other option is to find a Spanish Education college student to come teach a class. The other option is to do a World Cultures club once a month and bring in a new culture each time with a language and culture pieces. Beattie Color Run and Movie Ticket Sales (Emily Faubel) • Movie ticket sales will go out soon. • Color Run is Saturday May 20th. The color dust is safe and non-toxic. Money for the Color Run is due by the end of next week. Meeting Adjourned 7:30pm Next PTO Meeting, Monday May 8th at 6:30. • •
