Nominations of new Officer Positions Abby Bridge and Darlene Tong have volunteered as this yearʼs nominating committee to assist in submitting a slate of qualified candidates to be voted upon by the membership. Sarita Janich reviewed the duties of the Vice-Chair and Secretary/Treasurer officer positions. Members were strongly encouraged to self-nominate and nominate other members to the positions. General Business / Announcements Sarita discussed the Chapter bylaw revision and appropriate use of chapter names, which must include regional distinction as desired by ARLIS/NA national headquarters. 2014 National Conference Chapter Donation for 42nd Annual Conference: It was agreed that the amount of the chapter donation for the 42nd annual conference in Washington D.C. would increase to the amount it was in previous years ($250) with the possibility of additional funds supported by fundraising efforts. Kathryn Wayne asked chapter members present for fundraising ideas to raise money for the 2014 annual conference. She proposed the idea of a fantastic meeting space for the spring meeting where attendees could be charged a little money for attending. Gretchen
suggested designing a t-shirt and/or bag for the local chapter that could be sold as a fundraising effort. Teri suggested that a book sale could be held at the spring meeting that could also generate funds to donate to the 42nd annual conference. Members also expressed interest in developing activities (e.g., speakers, shop tours outside the twiceannual business meetings as ways to share knowledge). It was decided that fundraising efforts would be pursued by Chair-elect, Lauren MacDonald and incoming officers. It was proposed that the spring meeting could be held in late March 2014, which would enable funds raised for the annual conference to be received in time for the conference in May. Allocation of Chapter Funds A discussion of ideas for how chapter funds should be allocated generated many ideas. Once idea proposed was to offer a variety of social gatherings for chapter members that would be both educational and promote professional development and collaboration. It was also suggested that the Travel award could receive more money. Other shared ideas included the development of a speaker fund for the bi-annual chapter meetings and a trip for the chapter where transportation costs would be covered by chapter funds. General Discussion: Darlene Tong asked a survey of the room how use of eBooks have been integrated into visual resources. Members shared their current use of eBooks and largely discussed how use is limited. This discussion prompted a conversation surrounding slide collection, ARTstor, and general use of images. Teri Dowling shared information regarding the Visual Resources position at California College of the Arts (CCA), CCAʼs digital institutional archive, Vault, and the campuses experience with ARTstor and shared shelf. The meeting was closed with a reminder for membership renewals. With no further business or announcements, the meeting was adjourned. Presentation and Tour Chad Johnson, Studio Manager gave a presentation and tour of the San Francisco Center for the Book. Following lunch the chapter toured the Wattis Institute, led by Jesi Khadivi, Assistant Curator. Minutes submitted by: Lauren MacDonald, ARLIS-NC Vice-Chair, Secretary/ Treasurer
