Locate and open ArchiCAD. Create a new project and be sure to use Standard Profile so our menus will be the same.
Select SLAB from the Toolbox
We are going to draw a 24 x 36 foot slab for our building. The Slab tool is similar to walls.

Head down 90 degrees and type in 36. Head to the right and type in 24 and then close the slab.
The blue dashed guide lines indicate that we are closed. Also if you see a hammer – pick – and you are closed or you may pick and then right mouse click and select OK.
Hint: for the last line you can also type in CL and enter for close.
Page – 3 Select WALL from the toolbox and Move the cursor toward the slab. Hold down the SPACE BAR and when you see the MAGIC WAND pick somewhere inside the slab and walls will be placed along the slab. Hint: You can change the wall type by double clicking on wall before and you can change the wall type after placing walls by making sure you are in the Toolbox SELECT mode and selecting the walls to change properties.
If the slab had curves and angles the magic wand would complete the walls on the curves and angles also.

Double click on Generic Perspective from the Project NAVIGATOR so see what we have accomplished.
To get back to plan view double click on 1st FLOOR in the NAVAGATOR.

RIGHT mouse click on 1st FLOOR and select SHOW AS TRACE REFERENCE.
Double mouse click on 2ND FLOOR – we now have the 1st floor as a TRACE reference for designing the 2nd floor. – This assures proper alignment of the building of the floors or stories of the building.

Select SLAB from the toolbox – we are now going to create the floor for the 2nd story. Using the trace reference as your guide select the end points and go around the building to create the slab.
Double click on GENERIC PERSPECTIVE in the NAVAGATOR

Go to DOCUMENT pulldown and select LAYERS and then LAYER SETTINGS.
Using the SLIDER go to A-WALL-EXTR (alphabetical). The options for layers are lock/unlock – on/off (eyeball) and wireframe/solid. We are going to select WIREFRAME for AWALL-EXTR layer
Page – 8 Now we can see through the walls. Try the ORBIT tool below to see the building from different positions.
Using the Magic Wand go to the TOOLBOX and select WALLS – remember to use the SPACEBAR to bring up the Magic Wand – pick the wall placement for the second floor
Hint: we could have also created the slab using the magic wand by selecting the trace reference.

Go to GENERIC PERSPECTIVE in the NAVAGATOR to see 2nd story.
Hint: if you every have trouble getting a function or command to work press the ESC key twice to clear the memory.
RETURN to the 1st floor by double clicking 1st floor in the NAVIGATOR

Double click on STAIR in the TOOLBOX. Double clicking brings up property information. Check out the Parameters and the different type of stairs.
You can also on the arrow and bring up STAIR MAKER that allows you to create a custom stair of your choice.
Select the stair shown at right to create a custom stair – select OK

We could change any of these parameters, but will leave them at their defaults for now.
Name your stair TEST.
Select TEST and select anchor point approximately as shown.
Go to GENERIC PERSPECTIVE in the NAVIGATOR to view as shown.
Page – 12 Using SELECT from the TOOLBOX select the stair as shown.
Double click on WALL icon to bring up stair options.
Select COMPLETE STAIRS from the FOLDER VIEW and then select STAIR SPIRAL and OK.

Select or double click on 2nd STORY from the NAVIGATOR..
Select ARROW from the TOOLBOX and make sure the MAGNET option is chosen (this selects objects as your cursor passes over. Zoom into stair area Select the SLAB. You get a response back in a blue box as show to let you know the SLAB is selected. Click on line to get PAL (or pallet) on right. We
will pick the minus symbol at the far right. Page – 14 Before you pick the symbol you may see a line, but ignore the line and select the minus tool. Begin to draw the opening.
You are in a LINE command and may use the BACKSPACE if you make a mistake the same as when you are drawing a wall.

You have two options to get to settings or properties of an object. Using ARROW and select the stair. Now you can double click on the stair icon or RIGHT MOUSE CLICK and select SETTINGS.
