Dear Parents/Guardians, ***PERMISSION FORM AND TOURNAMENT ENTRIES ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE*** We are excited to announce the start of another archery year for grade 3 and 4 students. Archery is SAFE and FUN and is open to any student in grade 3 or 4 regardless of their experience. Millgrove School follows the NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) rules and regulations, which is a worldwide program, designated to teaching children the sport of archery. While participating in archery your child will be under the care and supervision of a teacher trained by the NASP program. Mr. Cherry leads the archery program so any questions during the year can be directed to him through his email at
[email protected] or by contacting him at the school. Millgrove School provides ALL of the equipment necessary for the archery practices and tournaments. However, parents and/or students are more than welcome to purchase their own bows and store them at school. If you are interested in doing this PLEASE talk to Mr. Cherry beforehand, as the bow NEEDS to be a specific kind to use it at school and tournaments. If your child already has an approved bow and would like to store it at school, please talk with Mr. Cherry as well. We do have a safe and secure room for personal bows here at school. So far, the Millgrove Archery Team will be traveling and entering in 4 tournaments. This number MAY increase as more tournaments become available. Your child DOES NOT have to attend all of the tournaments listed to be on the team. They can attend however many tournaments their personal schedule allows them to do. Each tournament comes with an associated cost ranging from $10 to $25. Mr. Cherry NEEDS payment for tournaments before your child can be entered. Due dates for payments will be on entry forms that he sends out during the year. REFUNDS for tournaments missed are NOT GUARENTEED. Parents are RESPONSIBLE for the TRANPORTATION of their child to and from the tournaments. If transportation is an issue, we suggest your child carpools with a friend also going to the tournaments. ALL of the tournament dates and locations are listed below. We are ONLY asking for the entries and payments for the TOMAHAWK and BON ACCORD tournaments at this time. Fees and entries for the following two tournaments will be on a SEPARATRE form sent out at the end of January. January 24th Tomahawk, Alberta $15 February 24th Bon Accord, Alberta $10 March 3rd Ardrossan, Alberta $10 March 17th Edmonton, Alberta $25 If your child is doing any archery tournament they will have ONE after school archery day, where they will stay at school until 4:30, every Tuesday or Thursday practicing their archery skills. In the past we have offered after school archery to any grade 3 and 4 student, regardless if they are in a tournament or not. Because of the popularity of the archery tournaments we are going a different direction this year and offering after school archery to ONLY those students entered in tournaments. However, archery will remain available to ALL grade 3 and 4 students during lunch hours. On the other side of this paper are the entry forms and payments due for the Tomahawk and Bon Accord tournaments. At some tournaments your child will receive a t-shirt with their entry, which is why we need to know their shirt size. We also need email addresses and phone numbers for each child so we can easily contact parents with important archery information. PLEASE write out email addresses CLEARLY. In the interest of saving time PLEASE sign the permission form for both the Tuesday and Thursday after school day. Once we get all of the forms back we will sort the kids into their days, keep the permission form for the day your child is attending and shred the permission form for the day your child is not attending. Mr. Cherry will send out emails during Christmas break indicating which day, either Tuesday or Thursday, your child will be attending after school archery.
