We are looking for a Scientific Technician to assist in coordination of the Nisqually Reach Nature Center’s Citizen Stewardship Projects. The successful candidate is dedicated to the local environment, research, and education, has great communication skills, and understands what it takes to promote the understanding, appreciation, and conservation of the Nisqually ecosystem.

For over 30 years, NRNC has been a destination for bird watchers, boaters, fishermen, tribal communities, hunters, and nature enthusiasts. The NRNC is a great place to work! It is led by an Executive Director and is a volunteer-run, membership-supported non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Located on Luhr Beach, all are passionate about the conservation of the environment and maintaining opportunities for citizens of Washington.
Position Summary: While working as a science technician for NRNC; a variety of technical scientific duties in the laboratory and/or field will be required. In addition to collecting field data, there will be duties assigned to review, record, and tabulate these data gathered by themselves and/or others in narrative, graphical and statistical databases using a variety of software. Some laboratory duties will be performed using established procedures that require and/or allow minimal modification by Technicians. Training and Coordination of the volunteers working with this project going to be a large part of this position so good communication skills are a must.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to: - record and compile research data, using arithmetic and elementary statistical procedures - organize and present laboratory and field data in writing, in graphical form and present orally - enlist assistance and interest of others in biological sampling and data gathering projects - coordinate volunteers - hike 2 miles over uneven terrain on Puget Sound beaches in inclement weather - work a flexible schedule due to seasonal field work - update NRNC websites. - to create presentations for educational purposes to a varied audience Have Knowledge of: - marine science biological systems - tidal charts - watershed & estuarine ecosystems - data management - Puget Sound aquatic species Possess Skills: - field collection procedures - scheduling (multiple individuals, locations, times, days, etc.) - using a variety of software (Microsoft Excel, Access, , Word mail programs, Gmail calendar, Zoho) - leadership - social networking - work independently and in groups

to clearly articulate scientific information verbally and in writing

Qualifications: Graduation from high school or GED, including one year of high school science and two years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, chemist, or zoologist (employment and/or volunteer). Desired Qualifications: College course work involving major study in Marine Biology, fisheries, chemistry, natural sciences, or a closely allied field.
