Foothill Site Council Minutes April 19, 2016 SITE COUNCIL MEETING Attendance: Patty Cochran, Decker O’Steen, Laura Boyle, Ethan Kracht, Helena Lamb, Sarah Perez, Dalila Neves, Theo Pappas, Anna Saunders, Kristen Reina-Giatzis, and Candice Snyder Welcome: Ethan Kracht called the meeting to order at 2:52 p.m. Call for any additions/deletions of agenda items: None Public Comment: None Review of Minutes: Anna Saunders moved to accept the February 17th minutes Sarah Perez seconded the motion. No discussion Motion passed 8-0-1 Old Business: Technology Grant Expenditures: There was a $77,000 one-time grant that will be spent as follows: • $30,000 on Chrome books • 64 Acer touch screen laptops coming for 6th grade math • This will work towards achieving the goal of a 2:1 ratio for technology for Core classes, 2:1 for Science and 1:1 for Math. • $20,000 not yet spent that will be spent before the end of 2017

LCFF and General Fund Budget: There was a total of $16,700 received and all of it will be spent on: ELL/Computer lab opening 30 minutes earlier AP Supplies Rosetta Stone $30,000 will be spent next year for an extra section of language for ELL students
New Business: None Reports: Parents: • PFA meeting on Wednesday, April 20th at 7 p.m. o Will be voting on food truck expenses for the Open House in May; considering 2 -3 food trucks o 50th Anniversary celebration went very well and there were a lot of parent contributions o Currently looking to fill board positions for next year
e-News role 8th Grade Activities coordinator
Students: • Greek Festival trip coming up for 6th graders – 5/20 • There was a new Math Placement test students had to take for H.S. placement • The Youth Exchange Program took place in early April; 11 students from Italy and 11 from Hungary. The students were taken on several tours including to Santa Cruz and spending some time at Foothill. • The week after Spring Break seemed to have a lot of homework • 6th and 7th graders completed selecting their electives for next year; it was a little tricky though as the directions were not easy to follow • Have heard there will be big 6th grade class next year coming to Foothill Teachers: • 6th grade team finishing up unit on India/China and they are creating dragons that will be on display at the Open House • Science Planning day scheduled for 4/22 to plan next year to align with the Next Generation Science Standards • 6th graders working on their literary arguments • 6th graders also doing a debate • 5/27 is Civil War Day for the 8th graders; to tie in with this activity students are writing a paper on whether child soldiers are victims or perpetuators Administration: • At the walkthrough on 8/15 there will be computers available to complete some of the required forms – this includes the Computer Use Agreement, Emergency Contact info and PFA Dance/Video Release • CASP Testing is 5/2 – 5/20 for Math and Language Arts. There is also iReady testing that will be done during this time. Students will need to bring in ear buds, however, the school does have some if they are needed. Meeting adjourned at 3:34 p.m.
