PRESIDENT’S REPORT Peter McLoughlin

2016 was a landmark year, with the formation of the Sydney Hills Football Association. A Hills based competition has been mooted for many years. Six of the Granville based clubs took the decision to join the Association and were joined by another six clubs. The competition commenced with around 7,000 players and the work to get a competition up and running in a few months was amazing. Again our player numbers were high, similar to last year, with barely a space in the playing roster. Baulkham Hills was one of largest two clubs in the new Association. The new Association played a fourteen round competition, followed by a top four round robin and a grand final between the top two teams. The bottom teams also played a round robin competition at season/s end. A new format for a new competition. We thought last year suffered from wet weather, but this year it was much worse, with 4 rounds being washed out and having to be played later. All of this was completed by the end of August, a feat in itself. The final results saw Baulko winning five (5) Grand Finals – O45/1 Red, O35 Ladies 1 Red, U14/3 and both the Premier League Red Firsts and Reserves. And we had eleven (11) runners-up - O35/1 Ladies Blue, O35 Ladies/2, U12/1 Red, U15/1, AAM2 Blue, AAM3, O35/2 Red, Youth M/1 Red, U15 Girls/1 Red, AA Ladies /2 Red and Youth G/1. We also had a number of League Champions – U12/1 Red, Youth Men/1 BH Red, Youth Men/2, O35 Men /1 Red, Premier League First & Reserves. This year, the Premier League Red squad had a great year, with the Firsts winning every game and only conceding 4 goals during the competition. The Reserves also did well, only losing one game. The squad also won the inaugural Ray Williams Cup, the midweek Cup competition. Well done to Head Coach Peter Denyer, Assistant Graeme Luck & Managers Tony Hughes and Michael Raw. Baulkham Hills also had second Premier League squad: Baulkham Hills Blue. The Reserves finished 2nd and were beaten in the final, whilst the firsts finished 6th, just one (1) point off 4th place. Well done to Head Coach Bill Griffiths, Reserves Coach Mark Pesavento and Manager Kevin Robinson. Unfortunately, grounds were an issue again this season. Field 1 had the drainage installed pre-season, but the work was delayed and hence the ground was not ready for the start of season rendering it unavailable for the first few rounds. Fields 2,3 & 4 were not in great condition. They survived but became unplayable with the wet weather. Later Council decided

PAGE 4

to aerate the grounds, but the choice of equipment caused fields 1, 2 & 3 to be totally unplayable for weeks. This type of damage is avoidable and hopefully will never happen again. Off season works will be carried out, with field 4 having a new cut off drain installed at the base of the hill and the green dressing shed ( between TH # 1 and TH #2/3) being enlarged and modernized. The grounds at Ted Horwood do need a major overhaul and hopefully Council may recognize this! Like all volunteer clubs, Baulkham Hills needs much help to run the club during the year. Our Club has a very hard working Executive in place. Vice President Mick Hollins was new to the Exec this year and his energy and enthusiasm was great. Our club Secretary Tony Hughes spends many hours doing a number of tasks. Besides the Secretarial duties, he also looks after the training and ground allocations, attends Council and SHFA meetings and also the Sports Club meetings. His efforts are much appreciated. Treasurer Steve Durante is a silent worker. Behind the scenes he manages the money, running the books quietly and efficiently. The job of Registrar is a lot of work in the pre-season. Getting all the registrations completed and teams submitted to the Association, then following up with late registrations, collection of ID’s etc., the job involves many hours in February and March. Life Member Kevin has been a stalwart of this club for many years. He still manages the Prems, coaches his grandson’s team and helps around the grounds. Kevin will not be standing this year, so we thank him for his work. Now, we just need a replacement! Competition Secretary Mark Honeman took over this season. He did a great job, with the washouts and rescheduling of many games causing extra work. And With his job taking him out of Sydney during many weeks, the work had to done in the hotel at night! Mark also coached a junior team. Thanks Mark. However, Mark is stepping down, due to his work commitments, so we need to find a replacement for the role. The Executive do a great job and I thank them for their input. It is an honour to work with this team! Besides the Executive, the extended committee help with many tasks necessary to make the club run successfully. Equipment Officer and Roundball Editor, Cath Hughes, has again done an amazing job. Her energy and enthusiasm are just amazing. Terry Minton again doubled as Assistant Secretary and the chief ground marker. Terry did a great job, especially when the line marking is impossible as there is a lack of grass! A number of other club members helped Terry and their input is much appreciated. Many others also put in time to run the club. These include Bec Loundar (Member Protection), Manuel Bonnici, (Trials Co-Coordinator), Mick Hollins (Webmaster), Jake

McGaulley (Ladies Co-Coordinator), Jacob McGauley, Keith Pearce & Terry Minton (SHFA Delegates) and Kaye Cooper (Presentation Co-Coordinator). Belinda and Greg Islip (U6 Coordinator) together with Gerard Chevalier (U7 Coordinator) made sure that our very youngest Kookas’ first experience playing football in our Funskills program was very positive. Organizing a weekly program for 123 players was a big task carried out very well. Thank you one and all. As always, there a few people who deserve special mention. Life Member and BHFC Referees’ Coodinator: Jim Moreland has amazing energy and enthusiasm! He has organized referee courses, coordinated the referees at Ted Horwood each weekend, from U8 through to seniors and then refereed games during the day. He is also active with the SHFA. Jim’s training of the junior referees was adopted by SHFA. A big thank you to Jim. We thank him for his efforts week in and week out! On the subject of referees, this year saw a fantastic coverage of referees and assistant referees. Thanks to SHFA and Jim Moreland. The coverage was way in excess of previous seasons. May it continue! On the down side, we continue to have a small minority who wish to complain about the referee’s decisions or want to challenge them after the game. Get over it. Accept the decision and move on! The canteen this year has been difficult. The wet weather, postponements and rescheduled games have been a major disruption. But through all that, Cath & Tony Hughes have done a great job. Coordinating the workers, being the barista, selling, cooking, purchasing whatever – they are there every week. Thanks to both of them. They get assistance from by a number of people, including Donna Moulds and Toni Bray. Thanks. At Baulko, we are fortunate to have the support of Bankstown Sports. The team at Bankstown, led by Marie Kanaan do a

great job supporting BHFC and all the sports divisions. Marie is always available to help out and provide advice! We also thank the directors of Bankstown Sports and the management at Baulkham Hills Sports for their support. The financial support helps us keep our fees down. Our constitution requires all senior players over 18 to be members of the Sports Club. The cost to join is minimal and you get more back in reward points than you pay to join. We encourage all members of BHFC to join. I would also like to thank all of our club sponsors, both on the website and in the Roundball. Your support assists us greatly. Thanks to all the helpers – coaches, managers, age coordinators, grading team members, ground markers, referees, assistant referees, funskills referees, parents, grandparents and friends who have assisted this season Unfortunately, not everything is rosy. We need all our members to assist with running the club. Duties such as canteen, ground set up, meat raffle, pre-season set up, end of season clean up require help. We have rosters for the canteen and ground set up each week, but some teams and individuals do not want to help. The silent majority can always be relied upon, but the dissenters always manage a complaint or refuse to help. Playing is just not about turning up for the game, it about being part of the club. Season 2017 promises much. We are in the process of becoming incorporated, as Council requires this to be allocated grounds. We are in the process of updating our Constitution & Bye Laws. And the Sydney Hills Football Association is well advanced in planning for the 2017 competition. So there it is, another season is over Thanks to everyone for their support this season. It is great to be a member of Baulkham Hills! Enjoy the summer season, maybe I will see you at cricket or around the shops. I look forward to 2017 and another season of football!

SECRETARY’S REPORT Tony Hughes After much behind the scenes commitment and consultation with clubs, the new Sydney Hills Football Association kicked off their inaugural season on April 1st at Ted Horwood Reserve. BHFC were proud to be part of this new association irrespective of the lack of support and foresight expressed by the games governing body in the state; Football NSW. After overcoming many obstacles put in our way in the last fifteen months, twelve foundation clubs headed by a strong hardworking and determine executive took on the challenge to provide an opportunity for the people of the hills to play football in their own community after decades of thwarted attempts to establish a new football association. As we sit back and review the season that was, the hills football community

should be proud of the achievements of the SHFA inaugural season. As we continue negotiations with FNSW in an attempt to have our association affiliated and sanctioned for next season, we need to acknowledge and thank the many people who have worked tirelessly over the last eighteen months to make our dream of playing in a hills association a reality. Well done and congratulations to all concerned. Thank you for your patience and confidence in backing those who have driven the agenda to establish and deliver a most successful initial season under the banner of the SHFA.

PAGE 5

This year sees BHFC celebrate our fifty fifth season. Five decades of providing an opportunity for the people in the southern area of the shire to play football from the tender age of five or six to our senior members who just love our world game. BHFC sets the standard for the Hills in being a family centred, grassroots club that gauges success not purely on the number of grand finals won or the league championships achieved, but on the culture and friendships that has been established and maintained over the last half century in making football available for all, no matter your age or ability, for both males and females. This has continued in season 2016 now under the banner of the SHFA. This has been the status quo in the past, this season and will continue to be so in the future, because of the volunteers in our club, who each week give of their time and talents to make Baulko a place where people want to come and play football. Many thanks to the volunteers who week in and week out coach and manage teams, assist with ground set up and canteen, support you teams and administer a club of 76 association and 22 club based teams, made up of nearly twelve hundred players. Without volunteers we don’t have a club, we don’t have a “Baulko culture” and we don’t have an opportunity to foster and play football! For those who don’t actively contribute to our club/culture and just see BHFC as a set of strips, and a park to play on each week, please reconsider your attitude and position. Yes, we are all busy and time poor. We are all aware of this. All we ask is that you make a contribution to the successful running of

our club by volunteering and taking pride in wearing the maroon and gold strip and contributing to our “Baulko” culture. Everyone who contributes to the success and administration of the club is a volunteer. If you’re someone who sits backs and gives nothing back to “your” club and relies on the generosity of our volunteer’s time and commitment, take the off season to think about how you can proactively get more involved next season and be a “part” of continuing to make Baulko the club that is has been and will continue to be in the future. Congratulations and thank you to the many volunteers who contributed to the successful running of our football club this season. Finally, to those who took up positions on the executive and various other committees in 2016, thank you for your commitment and passion in assisting with the administration of the club. Your time and generosity each week allows for our teams to play of a weekend. Without your efforts this would not be possible. We look forward to you continuing your roles next season. To our President Peter McLoughlin aka the “Wagon Wheel Kid” thank you for your leadership and support throughout the season. You have certainly worked well with the club’s executive in guiding the club through the first year of being part of the SHFA. To everyone concerned with Baulko enjoy the off season. May the summer be a restful and enjoyable time for you and your families. We look forward to you catching up with you all in early February to do it all again as we don the maroon and gold for the 2017 season!

TREASURER’S REPORT Steve Durante

Our trading result for 2016 season (to 31/8/16) is a cash surplus of $29,458 Our cash balance as at 31/8/16 is $149,653.

$8,881 over the 2015 season (charged by GDSFA) and BHFC fees increased by $8,662 because of an increase in player numbers. (Not fees).

1)Bankstown Sports Club contribution of $38,000.

It needs to be remembered that the fees to SHFA also INCLUDES referees which led to a decrease in referee fees of $16,110

2) Canteen turnover of $26,473 which was an decrease of $6,350 from last year

5)I have included in expenses the cost of player discounts (>20 year & 3rd/4th player free)

This decrease attributable to several factors , including the weather and game scheduling by SHFA which on various Saturdays did not use our fields to their optimum capacity.

Teams and Results. This year was the first for the SHFA association and whilst arguably there have been some up and downs and definitely some teething problems, which were to be expected, the season was a good one. We had 76 teams from our Under 8s through to our Premier League for the 2016 soccer season, which was an increase of 7 teams from last season. The biggest challenge this year was the lack of usage on BHFC fields. To try to fit all of our teams onto fields at Ted Horwood was difficult from the get go with field 1 lighting and construction issues forcing so many teams to play away for home games including SSG teams. Along with the rainy weather after round 9’s wash-outs, the wet weather continued with many more rounds washed out also. The council’s decision to aerate the fields using a rotary hoe ultimately meant BHFC lost the home ground advantage. This year was challenging to say the least. A big congratulations to BHFC O35L/1 Red, U14/3, O45/1s Red, PL /1 Red and PL /Res Red who won their Grand Finals .It’s worth noting that PL Red also won the Ray Williams Cup and the SHFA Combined PL points shield. Girls and Ladies. Last year we had a total of eight girls and ladies teams. This year we increased that number to 13 teams. Whilst there were issues associated with the newly formed SHFA female competitions, BHFC ladies /girls teams were made up of : 2 x U9G/1s, 1 x U11G/1s, 2 x U13G/1s, 2 x U15G/1s, 1 x YG/1, 2 x AAL, and 3 x O35L.

Following the AAM again this year were six ‘Over 35’ teams (a decrease of one team from 2015) and two ‘Over 45’ teams (an increase of 1 from 2015). This change arose from one team moving from the 35s to 45s.

Finally, we had our Premier League Red and Blue squads, which are made up of two teams each - First Grade and Reserve Grade. Now however it gets tricky due to the reformation of the Youth Squad. Our Youth M1 and Youth M2 teams were formed by SHFA regrades in the U16, U17, U18 and U21 competitions. All of Baulko’s teams between U16 and U18 became part of either YM/1 or the YM/2 competitions, with the exception of BHFC 16/2 which was regraded into the U18/2 competition.

Cups and Tournaments. As well as playing the SHFA regular competition, we had a number of teams take part in other cup sand tournaments.

Baulkham Hills FC had teams represent us in the Kings 7s with the 12/1 winning their division. The Australian Juniors Football Sevens Tournament is run by the King’s School Football Club. The Weather. The season started off quite well and it wasn’t until to round 9 that Mother Nature alerted us to what was to come. This as we know threw everything into chaos and we were in for another wet year. Many games were rescheduled and catch up games were played.

helped me through the process of the Competition Secretary role. A big thank you for making a concerted effort on the team sheets being filled out correctly as it’s my understanding it was a vast improvement on previous years, whilst there were a few initial teething problems with team sheets it came together quite quickly This year was quite challenging for me due to my work commitments and consistently being away from home, family, and friends so thank you!. Without the continued effort from the club’s coaches, volunteers, and managers the BHFC football club would not be able to function. Thank you.

My thoughts and thanks.

Thank you to the club’s executive who helped numerous times when I was struggling with the workload and who have put in the effort required to make our club successful. Also a special thanks to both Greg Loundar and Jake McGaulley for their continued support.

Thank you for a great year, whilst I’m very new to football and its rules and regulations I am very grateful to the large number of coaches and managers who diligently sent me scores and

Well done to all of our teams. I hope you have had another enjoyable season of football, and hope to see you all next year.

Looking forward the semis and the finals would be able to be played in full. Regardless of the number of grounds closed by the weather and the finals were eventually played.

REFEREES’ REPORT At Baulko we have been fortunate for some time now, to have an ongoing successful referees' program run by our Ref’eree’s Coordinator: Jimmy Moreland. Our junior referees in particular have benefitted enormously from the guidance and tuition offered by Jimmy. In season’s past it has become increasingly difficult to obtain, and keep, centre officials. However in the season 2106, with the start of the new Sydney Hills Football Association, the majority of games consistently had a high standard of refereeing at a very high rate of coverage. Most games had at least one AR, with many having two. Something we previously had rarely seen. We thank the SHFA Referees' Committee and our own referees for their commitment to the game. Let’s keep advancing the cause of referees in 2017, and continue to show respect and sportsmanship toward our match officials.

U6 CITY Nicholas Barnett, Ruby Enosi Tuipulotu, Riley Gatt, Harry Jones, Noah Puletua. Coaches: Brian Zann & Andrew Jones Manager: Janie Gatt City Under 6’s enjoyed the 2016 soccer season with BHFC. The city side had a mixture of talents, with some players new to the game, and others returning for their second or third season. Throughout the season their skill development improved as did their ability to come together as a team. Brian Zann and Andrew Jones did a wonderful job coaching the team, and we are thankful for their time and efforts. New players showed an enthusiasm and were proud of their ability to dribble the ball down the field, and some returning players were excited by their first ever goal scoring moments. There were also undoubtedly players who have a natural talent for the game and never ceased to amaze spectators with strong kicks, tackles, speed and agility, and determination. Our player of the match trophy was won each week, not necessarily by the best player on the team, but distributed in an attempt to encourage and foster skill development. In turn, usually each player was rewarded for a particular improvement they had made that week, and in some cases simply because they shone on the field. Riley had his first ever season and has developed in his kicking, and dribbling skills. He has naturally gravitated to chasing and following the ball and has developed more confidence to get amongst the pack and attempt to gain control of the ball. He performed some direct and strong sideline kick ins throughout the season.

Nicky, scored his first ever goal, which was very exciting. Nicky also showed he has great running speed and was often able to catch his opposition, kicking the ball from their possession and out of the field. He had fun during every game, and flourished after his soccer skills program, gaining more focus and kicking skills. Noah displayed some amazingly strong kicks, scoring a high number of goals, even scoring goals from a sideline kick in. Throughout the season he went from a really strong kick, to one with direction and control. He was a hat trick hero multiple times throughout the season. Ruby showed such commitment to every game, her agility and ball skills saw her tirelessly popping up wherever the ball was, nearly always in possession of the ball, and if in defence almost guaranteed to steal the ball or prevent the opposition from scoring. Ruby, also was a hat trick hero multiple times. Harry, towards the second half of the season, was noted to have gained further kicking and dribbling ball skills. He was developing some determination which saw him scoring goals, making intercepts then chasing that ball on to gain possession of the ball more on the field.

What a fantastic season U6 Heart had this year, having loads of fun learning the art of playing soccer and playing a team sport. It’s definitely safe to say that Charlie, Jules, Ryan, Lachie, Arlo and Oli all enjoyed themselves immensely and have finished their first season with some soccer skills under their belts and some new friends too! Heart were lucky enough to have two volunteer dad coaches Nick and Mark, both doing a fantastic job in teaching the boys some early soccer skills and ball control. At times all the dads chipped in with the training, which was appreciated by all. As the season

progressed the boys developed their game both as individuX als and as a team, and improvements were seen every week, thanks not only to the dedication of the players but the encouragement and praise of all the parents as well. A huge thank you to all involved with the team, and many big ‘pats on the back’ for these wonderful little players who played with Heart every game. Looking forward to the next season!

What a great season it’s been for the U6 Jets in 2016. A group of 6 boys, from different schools, who had never met each other before the first game of the season, yet came together as a team and played some of the most scintillating U6 football we have ever seen. Ably led by Super Coach Pete and his awesome assistant coaches Stewart and Mel, the team went from strength to strength over the course of the season, constantly impressing their cheering families on the sideline. Each player added their own strengths to the team. Alex was like our little ninja. With lightning speed, from out of nowhere goal-saving tackles and goals galore from all parts of the pitch, the other teams never saw him coming. Aydin was our secret weapon. Despite sometimes taking a nap on the sideline, his dogged strength and determination when he had the ball at his feet and opposition all around won us a lot of possession. Bodhi was our heart and soul. His enthusiast defence and attack, thoughtful passing and constant encouragement of his team mates epitomised what made this team so successful, and he always had a smile on his face!

Lachlan was the Jet’s workhorse. Always on the ball, always willing to chase hard and make a tackle, always ready to pounce on any loose passes for breakaway runs up the field. Matthew was our brick wall. He commanded the back half of the pitch with his solid defence that many teams had no answer for. Like any great defender he was always ready to attack when the opportunity arose and provide some incredible final passes that lead to goals. Zach was certainly the team’s engine. His great ball control, tactful vision and pin-point passing, along with some incredible solo efforts on goal when required were a major strength. Thanks to all the parents and family for the half-time oranges and lollies, and for coming along to support the boys this year. A big thanks to the coaches, Pete, Stewart and Mel, as your work and time with the boys this year is one of the main reasons why this season has been so much fun for all involved. It would be great to watch this team develop further by playing together in the future, so hopefully this is just the first of many seasons together. A huge well done to the U6 Jets for an incredible first season of football for BHFC!

As a team we had two main objectives to learn this year, positioning and team play. Yes we mixed positions around a lot and whilst some of you proved natural in one position or another, it was important that you all experienced how to play every position on the field and why to stay in those positions rather than all chasing the ball all the time. Positioning not only helped when defending to win the ball, but knowing your team mates were also in position allowed you to turn defence into attack, making better passes and using the whole field which is what team play is all about! Your improvement in both areas was so outstanding that in the second half of the season you outplayed almost all your opponents and were very unlucky not to win all remaining games. I congratulate you all on your efforts and development. It was a pleasure to coach you this year and I wish you every success in the years to come. A great season had by a team of talented young footballers, with a total 8 wins and 50 goals! Harrison: Defender of the Year Award.,,,,,,,,,. Such a great team player who was rock solid in defence and our slide tackle specialist. Your ability to learn from each game meant you went from strength to strength this year. You knew your role and were consistently able to execute it on the field, thus deserving of the votes you received from parents during the year toward the weekly Sportsperson award. Lleyton: The Quiet Achiever Award.,,,,,,,,,,, A great asset, especially in the midfield with your control and outstanding vision allowing you to keep the ball and pick out the perfect pass that turned our defence into immediate attack. You were the quiet achiever who grew in stature as the year progressed and this did not go unnoticed as you received many votes late in the season, toward the weekly Sportsperson award. Will: MVP Award. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,..,.... Exceptional positional and team play with non stop running meant that you were in the mix whenever the ball was in your zone, either marking or ready to receive the ball. You made many outstanding plays, scored some great goals (two lots of hat-tricks) and set up even more. Your ability to play every position well wins you this year’s Most ‘Versatile’ Player. Cohen: Golden Boot Award. ,,,,,,, Always present with a handshake and a smile, you really enjoyed football this year. The combination of your size, strength and skill made it very hard for the opposition as you carved straight through them toward goal and it was great to see some intelligent passing as the year progressed. You scored a total of 11 goals this year including 4 in one game. A great season.

RESULT

X Tana: Goal Stopper Award. ,,,,,,,,,,, You proved to be a natural goal stopper this year. You made some great saves in goal, read the play and cleared the ball from danger in defence. You have a knack for stopping the opposition from scoring. Even when you played in an attacking role you defended well, winning the ball high, making a run down the line and crossing it in to the striker. Great improvement this year. Lincoln: Speed & Skill Award. ,,,,,,,,,,,. A great combination of speed and skill made you a huge asset to the team this year. Your ‘give it my all’ attitude had you running up and down the field causing lots of problems for the opposition. You played some exceptional games in defence with great sweeping cover and in attack were able to speed down the line and use your skill when needed. Keep it up. Oscar: Keeper Striker Winger Award. ,,,,,,,. Named after your three favourite positions you showed that you wanted to score them or save them and that you did. You have a good understanding of the game and always appear calm, whether making great saves or turning in a busy goal mouth to score in the bottom corner. Remember to embrace and learn every position on the field, it will make you a better goal scorer. Joey: Free Kick Specialist Award. ,,,,,,,,,.. For your first year playing football you really proved yourself. You loved skilling your opponents and dribbling for goal. Your positioning improved tremendously as the season progressed and so did choosing the right times to take on the players or to make a pass. It was great to see you embrace goal keeping duty, but even more impressive were the 3 free kicks you scored. Sensational! Liam: Love of the Game Award. ,,,,,,,,,, A little champion, you played with such passion and tenacity. It was tough against the bigger kids and you were often picking yourself up off the ground after a challenge. But it was good to see that didn’t stop you. There were some exceptional moments, great dribbling, good passes, goal assists and some very enthusiastically celebrated goals of your own. Excellent effort.

X COACH: Grant Wilcockson MANAGER: Melanie McFarlane Well, what a year, overall, a great one. We, like most teams had those games where the parents thought the kids were on a different planet and were more interested in the clouds in the sky than the game. But more often than not, the kids had a great time training and playing together.

injury and we didn’t see him the last few weeks, hope you are better now and hope to see you next year.

We even ended up beating a team on the last game of the season that I don’t think had lost all year. We finished the season with big smiles on our faces.

Harrison was a pocket rocket, didn’t realise how fast he was and he used this speed in defence and attack to great use, another one to score some great goals this year with his powerful kicks. Well done Harrison.

While there is no ladder for this age group, the boys know how they went and this year we ended up with more wins and draws than loses. It was exciting to see the players in the team slowly gain skills and teamwork that helped with these results.

Jace also has a great right foot on him, I think his best position is in the middle of the park, he certainly made it looks easy to get the ball off the other team to give it back to our players to attack when needed, good job Jace.

We had a few weeks where due to injury or holidays we played without any subs and that’s always hard when you are playing against a team that does have them. But our team never gave up.

Lachlan’s positional play impressed me throughout the comp this year, his ability to listen and learn things during trainings and then apply them in the game impressed the coach a great deal well done Lachlan. Unlucky not to get a few goals. Next year for sure.

Ben confirmed his position as dedicated goalie near the end of the season where he went in for half a game each week and did an amazing job of stopping many goal shots. Great job Ben. Blake used his skills he learned at training to great advantage to hold the ball with both feet during the games and improved dramatically throughout the year. Good one. Cameron, some of the parents calling him the “bulldog” of the team, always in the thick of things, never, ever giving up to get the ball and got himself a few great goals in the process. Great year Cameron. Darby’s big left foot was an asset at the back and some of his driving runs up the sideline came out of nowhere sometimes to shake the opposition up when needed. Ended up with the last winning goal of the season, excellent goal Darby. Harley had a great start to the season, never stopped running on the field and got himself some great goals with his determination. I think he was the person that enjoyed the snakes at half time the most. His season was cut short due to a ankle

PAGE 22

Rhys’ ability to dribble the ball sometimes from inside his own half and around opposition players impressed all the parents and he certainly knows how to score goals with some cracking shots this year. Great year and some fantastic goals Rhys. To the parents. Thanks for bringing the kids to training and the games, even when we had a few cold early morning ones, and also allowing me to coach them without any hassle this year. I know we played against a few teams where it seemed like they had 9 coaches. By allowing the kids just to hear me on the sideline it stops a lot of confusion for them. Thanks for helping out when we had duty as well. A really special thanks to Mel who put her hand up for Manager this year, made it a lot easier for me to focus on the game without having to do the paperwork and shirts, etc. Thank Mel Hope to see you all back next year for another go.

MANAGER: Nancy Bahari

The team had a great mix of boys. Stuart, Aidan and Mohammad had great ball skillsRESULT and were quick when running with the ball. Jonas and Zac proved X to be great defensive players, each loving the goalie position and played really well in the opposition’s half.

The U8 Kangaroos were a great team of boys who had so much enthusiasm and fun playing soccer throughout the year.

Zachary played really well all over the field with some great long kicks being his trademark to ensure the ball was taken from the opposition. Liam G always made sure he was in the middle of the action every week, and never stopped attacking the ball.

The boys had their own individual strengths and were able to build upon and share those skills with their team mates. Each week the team would practice the basics, try out new drills, help each other and always loved to finish the training night off with a mini game.

Kevin and Matthew and Liam R were great at tackling and intercepting the ball and passing to their team mates.

By the time the Saturday game came around, each boy gave 100% commitment and looked forward to playing.

By the time the last game was played, you could definitely see the team had grown in confidence and ability and really enjoyed the soccer season. It was great to see the boys having so much fun and making new friends along the way.

With each game, the U8 Kangaroos improved their play and as the season progressed you could see a great little team emerging.

Thankyou U8 Kangaroos for a great season!

As a parent we get to share the joy and sense of pride that is our kid’s first goal, but as a coach you get to be part of many first goals. And so it is that I consider myself lucky enough to have coached the U8 Sharks and immensely proud of how the team developed competitively and simply enjoyed playing the game. This was an exciting team to watch whether it be Declan and Sam leading a charge down field when they broke away from the pack or Ben chasing down a kick from Dom and Suraj in

defence that shifted play. Or when the ball was lost in a jungle of legs, it was Zac who deftly manoeuvred to set it free. Or the everywhere man Nik, who was always around to clean up or push that ball forward, giving Shrey and Dylan a shot at goal. But the final word was driven home by the quick reactions of Ryan to score his first, and the team’s last, goal of the season. As a coach you don’t get a much better, thanks guys!

U9 GIRLS RED Georgia Coates, Mackenzie Coates, Megan Daly, Jessica Grose, Charli Heuston-Richardson, Mia Jurcevic, Charlotte Mear, Leah Parnell, Abbie Pickard, Tilly Wyber. COACH: Tom Pickard

MANAGER: Louise Mear.

JAMCAS Coaching this team of young ladies has been a very satisfying and enjoyable experience for myself and our fantastic manager Louise this season! As I took my daughter along to her first ever soccer training session (first time she ever put on a pair of boots!) I started to feel really excited that she had chosen the "world game" after giving netball a "go" the previous season. I asked Jake if the girls had a coach yet and with a wry simile on his face he said "welcome to your first coaching session Tom!!!" I was secretly happy about this and quickly agreed! So thank you Jake! At the start of the season I wanted to teach the girls the importance of holding a "shape" throughout a game, in fact if nothing else learnt during the season, if the girls started to understand the importance of holding a shape throughout the game and being conscious of where they were positioned during a game, then I would consider this a success. I must say the girls quickly learnt about the nuances around "shape" and I must apologise to all the parents who during the first couple of months constantly heard me shouting "shape" to the girls! As we continued throughout the season the girls started developing other skills around "marking the opposition" and passing the football to their team mates. At first I thought some of the "through balls" that Georgia and Mackenzie were executing may not have been intentional, however I quickly changed my view around this as game after game both these girls constantly passed the football through midfield up to the strikers and more often then not a goal would result! Charlotte and Charlie showed a great deal of pace throughout the season and our team really benefitted by both girls managing to get the football first and then either passing or taking a shot on goal. Moving into next season I would like to see this continue with both girls being conscious of "lifting" their head whilst running with the football in order to beat defenders three four paces ahead as well as to look at crossing the ball into the middle of our midfield to take a shot.

PAGE 24

X Mia gave 100% throughout the season and showed a great deal of courage by making some awesome saves during the times she was scheduled to take her turn in goal. Mia really developed her "strength" behind passing the football throughout the season and it was always a relief to watch Mia get first to a ball and then provide a solid pass to one of her team mates. Tilly was instrumental with holding her position on the field in the team and was especially a very good trainer that always listened when it was time to listen, I can remember during one game Tilly made 3 or 4 outstanding saves during her time in goal that in effect won us a game. Megan showed real potential as I watched her develop throughout the season. I sense Megan will play at a very high level in the future once she becomes aware of her potential. I lost count the number of times Megan ran down attacking players in our own half and nine times out of ten ended up with the football and then distributed it to one of our other players. Jessica was similar to Tilly in the sense that she absorbed everything she was being taught around certain techniques and play strategies. I found Jessica a real pleasure to coach and she is a very respectful young lady that also has a huge amount of potential to fulfil in the future. Leah was the team’s "get out of jail card" I've never seen a girl run as much as I saw Leah do throughout many games during the year. As I walked around the grounds during the game I often heard opposition parents speak in a very complimentary fashion regarding Leah's performance. I reckon if we added up how much Leah ran throughout the game then I'm sure we'd end up half way to the moon! Which leaves me to talk a little bit about Abbie. Abbie - you know what I think about your performance this year ! I believe you have a fantastic "touch" of the football, moving into next season if we can get your first touch under control, then the other teams we face next year better watch out as your second and third touches of the football are plays that girls twice your age would be very proud of! Big thank you to the parents who helped with training - Huge thank you to Louise and I hope to see all of you next season!

In Division One each game throughout the season gave the players a different type of challenge and every training session became another important challenge to train harder than in the previous session. These two challenges helped each player to become a very dedicated Division One footballer. It was pleasing to see our team passing game progressed nicely throughout the season and the players self discipline and understanding of positional play. Our games against our three main friendly rivals Castle Hill United, North Rocks and Castle Hill Rockets always produced top football games with plenty of excitement for our keen supporters. Nash was our top goal scorer with 9 goals and when called upon his twin brother Harvey proved to be a courageous and skilful goalkeeper. With our wide positional play it gave our outside midfield players James, Isaac, Rafael or John room to display their skilful attacking game. Our central players Lachlan and Cody

gave our team balance with their awareness and energy. Alex was their partner in defence and proved his importance to the team with his determination and football skills. It pleased me as their coach to have full attendance at each training session with the exception of holidays and sickness. The player’s dedication and attitude at these sessions was excellent. Next season the team plays with two extra field players in a 9 vs. 9 game on a slightly larger field, this will give the present lone under nine central midfield player that extra needed assistance and cover. THANK YOU to the player’s “taxi service”; the mums and dads for their dependable and appreciated service to all the training sessions and the competition matches. Your

If the success of a football teams' season is measured by the ability of combining hard work whilst having bucket loads of fun, then these boys deserve a World Cup trophy each. These boys trained two nights a week throughout a very cold winter, whilst never skipping a beat. When grounds were closed due to rain, the boys were training indoors. Their passion for the game and each other is what really makes this group a team of champions. This season our boys achieved something that doesn't come easy for 8 year olds and that is they 'played football' together. They have learnt the concept of keeping possession of the ball, holding shape & structure, transitioning from attack into defence, spreading the ball wide to create opportunities, etc, etc. They have also learnt this season that the game doesn't always need to go at a hundred miles an hour, and that it is ok to slow the tempo down. Watching an 8 year old put his foot on the ball to get his head up to decide his next pass is absolute gold!

But most importantly, through the laughs, the cries, the hill training, the sprint work, the ball work, the nailbiting training games (most coincidently ended in penalty shootouts), we had an absolute blast as a team! The best season ever! Thank you to our all parents for their support and dedication to their boys and our team, and for braving the cold nights week in and week out. And also for rolling up their sleeves to help out wherever they could. And to our amazing manager Bronwyn for her organisation, communications and enthusiasm. I couldn't imagine what would have happened this season without Bron. What I am sure of is that I probably would have lost the jerseys, the bibs, the trophy, the team sheet, my daughter, etc, etc, a few times over! Lol. Well done team!

Firstly many thanks to the parents for supporting the team and your encouragement you gave to the boys. We had a great year and most importantly every week the boys left the field with smiles on their faces. We started the year with a mix of unknown players and it was not long before I worked out the boys were going to have a very good team year. The team attitude was great and it was fun to work with them developing their skills and hopefully their love of the game. With so many great performances this year it’s hard to single out anyone so, boys, a few comments to each of you.

Alistair, would regularly play in the forwards and backs and excel in each roll, developed a great skill set and was very consistent. Jake, Consistently involved, great left foot and runs down the side line and team player. George, Solid in defence, great runs with the ball, can be relied upon to play assorted positions very well every week.

es from the side line not to mention good ball skills. Lucas, ready to be involved whether it’s the forwards or Nick ,Mr speedy and great striker of the ball and can play any position. Our highest goal scorer this year. Christian, moved to many positions this year and consistently read the play and covered our opposition. Jayden, Up front and always looking for an opportunity to score or support others. Finally I big thank to Anthony for assisting me all year.

Xavier, Mr Goalie (natural talent), and always willing every week to attack up front and create opportunities. Jonty, holds position ,very consistent and always assists in the overall structure of the team. Lucas ready to be involved whether it’s the forwards or mid field and developed a good attacking mode this year. Justin, the fighter with a smile, happy go lucky and great cross-

It’s always hard to assess what kind of year you’ve had in retrospect, especially as the coach. On game day, you’re usually thinking about the next substitution or shifting positions or simply wanting to be somewhere else (sometimes). So sitting down to write this report I tried to think of something that would capture what kind of year it has been. It does fill me with as sense of some pride when, in round 13, your under 9 boys ask you whether they were playing a 2-31 or a 3-2-1 that week. In that moment, you get the feeling you might have done an okay job that year. And even considering the weather and wash outs, it has been a great year. The mantra all year has been about passing. We never kick the ball, we always pass the ball. A shot is simply a firm pass. We pass to each other not at each other. On more than one occasion we passed out from the goalie to a wide defender, along the line to a midfielder then to the forward for a shot. Sometimes it even went in for a goal! That’s when you know it has been a great year. Here are some brief comments for each of my troops:

move. Great vision and a good leader. Noah – Always energetic and my go to man when we needed a solid presence at the back to shore things up. Cooper – Marshalled the defence with his excellent positional play and cultured passing from the back. Alexander – Made right back his position and had incredible second efforts with his tackling. Very reliable. Aidan – An excellent first year in football. Scored his first ever goal in the second last round. Well done Aidan. Jaylen - One of our regular goalkeepers and defensive enforcer. Absolutely relentless and never gave up. Kael – Our second highest scorer and showman. He brought the flair and finesse to the team. Scored some cracking goals. Elijah – Top goal scorer for the year and managed to get them on both his left and right foot. Also had a good year in goals. Zachary – Glided between the defence and midfield all year and had some of the best crosses to his team mates. Adam – One of the most improved players. Tenacious in defence and set up a few goals with clever passing from the midfield. Thanks boys for a great year. You should be proud of yourselves. Thank you parents for your efforts. Let’s back it up in 2017.

Giovanni – Played more midfield than forward this year and his excellent passing and tackling proved it was a good

After another gruelling and intense 3 week grading process the mighty U/9 4blue team was formed with a mix of old players who were together last year and also with some new players. . The whole team, coaches, managers and parents where excited to start a new era of Saturday football with the newly formed Sydney Hills football Association. It was a long time coming but all the hard work put in by a lot of people saw it kick off as planned, Well Done to everyone involved. The whole team, coaches, managers and parents were So with only a handful of training sessions, one trial match and a first round bye, the home and away season finally started. WOW! What an improvement from last year, the whole team gelled immediately and it was like the new players had been playing with the team for a long time. We managed to win 6 out of our first 7 games and I have to say we played some pretty impressive football. We did all the basic things right and you could plainly see that all the players had definitely matured in the off season, both physically and mentally. With this new found desire each individual player was contributing something to the team which was enabling us to play some incredibly good football. But like any football season, you have your “ups” and you have your “downs” and we definitely didn’t have it all our own way. But what was pleasing to see was how we managed to bounce back from any bad performance and try to improve on what we were doing wrong in the previous week. This is where training each week is so important, it’s where you get to learn and practice certain areas of the game. Even though it was sometimes hard to get onto the training field, when we did we all trained hard and long to improve our skills, well done.

So all in all we managed to win a lot more games than we lost in a season that can be remembered as a very successful one. The effort, manners, eagerness and improvement of each player from the start of the season to the end was definitely my highlight of the season. So to Matt S, Elise, Emily, Josh, Will, Joel, Marcus, Matt E, Atticus and Liam AWESOME EFFORT TO ALL OF YOU. Special mention should also go to the parents who all helped out in their own way and made sure the year ran as smoothly as possible. We all worked well together and we have all formed some great friendships amongst each other but first and foremost we all had the same goal and that was to make sure that the whole team enjoyed every game they played. GREAT WORK GUYS. RESULT

X age co-ordinator and everyone Thanks also to Brian Zann the at BHFC who made the whole season as easy as possible, without their hard-work and commitment it wouldn’t have been as fun and organised as it was. Last but not least a big thank you to my right hand man, the manager of the team Andrew Murray (AKA: MUZ), his managerial, coaching and definitely his remarkable texting/emailing skills are something to behold and I definitely couldn’t have done it without him, CHEERS MUZZA. So to the whole team it can be safely said that this season was a great success. All your hard work and eagerness to learn paid off as you all started to do one of the most important things in any game and that is, YOU ALL WORKED AS A TEAM. You can’t beat TEAMWORK and that’s one of the main things that you took away from this season. WELL DONE and see you all NEXT YEAR.

Once again Simon & I had the honour of mentoring this outstanding group of boys. On the pitch they gave their all each and every week, playing the game in the best way possible: fantastic skill, energy, spirit and sportsmanship. Win, lose or draw their attitude and effort could never be questioned, and no matter the outcome they stuck together as team-mates and friends. Off the pitch, be it at training, before or after the game or in the many hours spent chasing each other around Ted Horwood Reserve whilst their siblings played their games it was easy to see how much they enjoyed themselves. Which at the end of the day is what it should all be about. An added bonus was the fact that they are also a very talented group, who will no doubt do the club very proud in years to come as they progress through the ranks. We certainly won more than our share of games this year despite playing against some very strong sides from some of the local academy outfits. We were at our best when we played a fast-paced passing game and really carved teams up when we strung 3 or 4 passes together. All good buildings have strong foundations, and our bedrock was our defence who I’m sure left many an attacker with sleepless nights thanks to our tenacity, speed and never-say-die attitude. To boot, if they ever did

Our central midfield was dominant, well supported by sevX eral wide midfielders who really learned how to use the width of the pitch to their advantage, either supporting our defenders to play out from the back or as a vital link to our attacking machine. Speaking of attack we had several standout players who scored some beautiful goals but also showed how to put pressure on those teams who dared to try and play out from their end. In most teams you tend to see players develop into specific positions based on their unique talents and our team was no different. However we were fortunate to have a few boys who were able to play multiple positions as needed, making the job of managing substitutions so much easier. Those boys in particular deserve special praise, not just for the job that they did but for the way that they did it – never a problem, always 100% effort. To the parents and family, thanks for getting behind the boys each week and for supporting the style of play and attitude which Simon & I try to develop within them. They are a wonderful team, and once again this season they have done themselves, their family and their club proud.

Well what a wonderful season with a mix of wins, draws and loses. Thank you so much boys for a great season. To be honest as this was my first season coaching I was unsure what to expect and I have to say that it exceeded all my expectations. Over the year I watched the boys grow as footballers. I was not only able to teach them but they also taught me plenty as well. So with everyone having their own special moments and highlights, here is a little about each of the boys.

Robert - Our super keeper who kept us in the game on a number of occasions. Robert was not only in goals but on the field as well scoring a few classy goals along the way, great season Robert. Faris - Our delivery man. With Faris delivering great ball

PAGE 29

from left back he was able to start our attacking runs on many occasions. With Faris being fast and elusive he was able to work his way up the line and link into the attacking line, great season Faris. Callum - Mr Dependable. Our left foot secret weapon, Callum made his centre back debut a few games into the season and was amazing. The way in which he knew how to position his body and pounce on attackers at the right time was a joy to watch, great season Cullum. Hugo - Hugo was one of the few players that played every position this year. Hugo was a danger wherever he played, with his secret long shot that he could hit from just about anywhere. Hugo was able to learn and grow as the year went on in all positions, great season Hugo. Jacob - Our speedy left footer. Jacob made his presence known on the left side of the field and gave defenders nightmares with his pace and headaches with his dangerous crosses and shots, great season Jacob. Lachlan - What can I say, he was our quite assassin. Lachlan was able to hit a shot from just about anywhere in the attacking half. Lachlan was our centre half with killer speed, touch and a shot, great season Lachlan. Jardyn - A natural leader. Jardyn is a strong player in all aspects of his game, Jardyn was our right midfielder this season. He was strong, used his voice and had good vision, finding his player on most occasions. Jardyn took most of our corners and scored off a couple, great season Jardyn.

Matthew - What a season for Matt, It was quickly apparent that Matt was a natural defender, he just didn’t know it yet. Matt had all the ingredients of a good footballer. He was versatile, strong, tough, had great timing in his tackles and just seemed to always know where the ball was going. With Matt leaving at the ¾ mark of the season to support his brother’s baseball in America, he was a huge loss to the team, great season Matt. Jean-Paul - JP had a fantastic season and showed that he was an out and out striker, he really had a sense for goal and scored hat tricks on a number of occasions. Part way through the season when we were struggling for numbers, JP stepped up to the RESULT challenge of playing centre midfield X play anywhere, JP is a strong and showed that he could versatile player that leads by example, great season JP. Oscar - Fantastic positional play, Oscar always knew where to be and when to be there. Oscar had the ability to beat players with great skill and strength delivering good ball to teammates, also knowing when and where to shoot. Oscar was our striker and every time he seemed to touch the ball we were in good position to score. With this being my first year coaching I would just like to say a huge thank you to all the boys, parents and my dad, Luke, for their support this season. Dad, thank you for your support and mentoring all season. It’s been pleasing to watch the boys develop not only as footballers but also as a great bunch of young guys. I hope to see you all return to Baulko next year, great season boys, well done

After weeks of grading, training and playing trials under the watchful eye of Coach Roland there was much excitement in the air. The Under 10/5’s made their long awaited and much anticipated start to the 2016 season, the inaugural season of the Sydney Hills Football Association. The team of Zachary E, Riley, Connor, Joshua Hasham, Joshua Han, Nidhish, Zach H, Ben, Toby, Arav, and Parsa ran out proudly onto the famed Ted Horwood to start the season. The Monday night training sessions were a mix of fun and skills run by Coach Roland. Through the skills taught and nurtured by the Coach the team developed as the 2016 season progressed; * Their defence was at times like a wall. * The team scored many goals and had many exciting wins. * Starting to hold their positions. * Starting to pass and moving into space.

But what was even better was how they handled the losses. It was just fun to be outside and running round with their team mates. Special thanks to the following; * Coach Roland whose knowledge and patience in developing the U10/5’s skills was excellent. * All the parents that helped with field set-up, packing away and canteen duty. * Nicky (Riley’s Mum) who arranged and produced the best team photos I have seen. The 2016 season was full of fun as the players developed their football skills. This was evident as the team developed over the 17 rounds of the season. The 2017 season cannot start soon enough. Enjoy the off season.

You were always hard to stop on the way to the goals.

Another Fantastic year!!!!! The group has been together for 4 years now and it is amazing to look back to where the boys started with coach Steff and the trials, tribulations and laughs that we had watching the boys trying to figure out what is now simple positional play. To each of the boys, Aiden: Your footwork and passing keeps the team together through the middle, the ability for you to read the game keeps you one step of the opposition. Remember the fields bigger next year so you will need a talk a little louder on the field. Ben : Your work rate has been there all season with your ability to run the wings from half and to snuff out attacks from the back has been a highlight. You always turn up with a smile and we’re glad that you’re having fun. Braydon: What a great team man you are, always encouraging others and listening to the coach (sometimes a little too literally). Your another player who kept the engine room going in the halves never stopping all game and also providing safe and assured stints as goal. Garv: The big improver, you really came out of your shell this season! Your footwork, quality goals and growing gameplay this season has been fantastic. Just remember to use your voice and muscle up to the bigger boys, plenty of practice on your brother and dad should do the trick. Harry: Great season in goals and up forward this year. You always made sure that the opposition had to make a great strike to get it passed you and always played it smart with the pass outs from the back. With the ball in front of you,

PAGE 32

Kye: The quiet achiever, its always the quiet ones that provide the muscle. The strongest tackler in the team, but added to it with your quality passing game in the midfield developing this year. Well done Kye. Lachlan: the Usain Bolt and Golden Boot winner for the Team. Your pace is your asset up front, but this year you added footwork to your resume allowing you to be the go to man up front for goals. Liam: We all love your boundless enthusiasm for the game. Some fantastic goalkeeping efforts this year and great work in the front scoring some tremendous goals. Remember to keep your eyes up when you can and look for your teammates. Fabulous season Liam. Mitch M: You had a cracking end to the season Mitch. Great work in defence and in the midfield. You started to give yourself time on the ball and use your foot skills to beat your man look up and pass. Well done Mitch. Mitch Z: You made centre back your own this year, your ability to read the game and snuff out any attacking moves along with strong tackling kept down the goal against tally this year. Also, loved your long range pot shots for goal with a couple just missing, next year with bigger goals they may well go in. Keep up the fantastic work. Ryan: The teams allrounder. Great in every position you played which was almost every position on the field. Always first to put your hand up for goalkeeper, assured in the backs, shown to have ability to pass and control the game from midfield, and a great eye for the goals when the opportunity presented. Terrific all round football Ryan. Well here’s hoping to see everyone back next year when we get onto the big fields , that will be exciting and challenging for the boys.

Keanu is one of our new members of the team and he fit right in, with a great ability to read the play and get to the ball. Josh was also new to the team and made right half his position and played it really well. We made it to the Grand Final with the final whistle crowning us runners up. The boys also had a great win by taking the U/12 Championship crown in the King’s 7’s Tournament. An extremely successful season for this team. Across the park we were strong. Players were able to play in multiple positions. Committed to 2 nights a week training, the boys were always keen to listen to instructions and execute our game plan. Shape was an important part of our success this year and our ability to play a very straight forward game plan resulted in a lot of things going our way. Add to this our enthusiasm, we proved to be a very formidable outfit. In the regular season, our 14 games saw 12 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. 52 goals scored with 12 goals conceded. A big leap up into full field matches was matched by an equally big jump being graded into Division 1 alongside the 12/1 Red Team. Whilst we only picked up 1 point in the first half of the season, the results in the second round (2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses) were testament to the development of the boys and their enthusiasm as a team. The table says we finished 6th, just above Castle Hill Blue and only 1 point below CH White; however, they picked up only 1 point since joining Div 1 from Div 2 in Round 5 – they finished above us because they retained their 12 points from their wins in Div 2). So although the table doesn’t reflect it, the boys can honestly say they finished 5th.

Scott and I are proud of the way each one of them never gave up, trained hard, and remained hungry to get a result, all amidst season ending injuries or absences, often playing short or with help from the U10s and U11s. Being in Division 1 meant they were tested and pushed to the limit in every game – this has enhanced their development as young footballers. Finally, congratulations from all in our team to the U12/1 Red players as they won the inaugural U12/1 Premiership and for making the Grand Final. The U12s at Baulko is a very strong age group!

You had a season full of everything - wins, a few draws and a couple of losses. You moved from being at the bottom of the table to coming outright third by the end of the season ! Well done to you boys and to your coaches. Early on into the season, positions were sorting themselves out with a very strong back line established with Cooper, Alex C, Blake, Alex S, Thomas and Kiran. You boys worked tirelessly throughout the season and developed your defensive skills well. In the midfield, we rotated Julian, Alexander S, Kayne, Ignacio and William. You boys worked well on your positioning, passing up through balls and helping in defense when needed. Up front, we had a rotation of Tom, Jevon, Ethan, Kiran and William. You boys developed your passing and positional play beautifully over the season. We witnessed quite a few cracker

goals across the season. In goals, most weeks we had Chris and at times Cooper shared the role. You boys had a great season and showed great development in your goalie skills. Those lucky goalie gloves proved very successful ! Most games this season were closely contested games with a nice even balance in our draw. I think that everyone would agree that the players individual skills and the team skills developed significantly over the course of the season thanks to our patient, skilled and consistent coaching team of Bill & Kevin. You worked the boys hard with their fundamental skills – passing, dribbling, ball control and positional play. You provided an environment of good team spirit, respect, enthusiasm and a great love for the game. Thank you to all of the families behind our players for making this season such a fun and friendly season. Looking forward to seeing everyone back for the 2017 season !

After an interrupted pre-season (the girls only knew the makeup of their team a week before the season proper was to start) our under 13 Red Girls were ready to take on the new Sydney Hills Football Association. We’re a relatively new team made up of girls from last year’s Under 11 and Under 12 teams as well as a couple of girls who were new to the club and new to the game. I remember coming into the sheds at half time in our first game, we were down 5 –Nil and I asked for you all not to worry about the score, but for us to improve from that first half of football. We came off the field that day losing 7-0, but the improvement that we showed in that one half alone set

X the platform for which we were able to build our season. Everyone worked hard from that point , We listened at training (MOST OF THE TIME) we played for each other on the field and we had the success we deserved from all of our efforts, eventually only just missing out on playing in the Grand Final. Everybody should be proud of all their efforts this year girls , the improvements you made on the field were incredible and your attitude to each other and the game is a credit to you all. Thanks to Di for doing a great job as manager for the girls this year and to all of the parents for their support during the season. I hope to see everyone back again for another great season in 2017! Well Done !

Javier inherited a bunch of feisty young females with a genuine passion for the game. The girls very much enjoyed the season particularly its social aspects and there was always cause for celebration regardless of whether the team actually won the match. Parents were very happy to see the girls enjoying football regardless of the competition table position. Having said that, the team was far from uncompetitive, and easily deserved a finishing position higher on the table. Unfortunately, we are left to count our missed chances and silly

This was the season of what could have been. We had a slow start but finished strong and were unlucky not to make the semi’s. One of the most pleasing aspects of the year was how the boys played as a team, they never gave up and improved in all aspects of the game. It was a pleasure to coach them and it was nice to see them win the Pennant comp as they deserved something for all their effort. The team:Ali:Started as a field player but ended up as our goalie. Has a natural ability to read the game and space around him, made some fantastic saves and brings a fantastic attitude to the team. Kayden:- Strong and dependable, never gives up, one of the reasons our midfield was so solid. Team leader. Chris:Forward that is big & strong with one thing on his mind, score goals, scored 13.

PAGE 38

Ben:Right Mid good ball skills & passing. Was unlucky not to get a goal with some strong shots. Austin:- Centre Mid player, who always created chances and scored some great goals. Lynton:- Left Mid that would run all game with great passes into the box & scored a couple of goals. Brodie:- Forward new to the club with good ball skills and always ready to have a go. Made SHFA U13 training squad. Toby:Started in backs & moved to left Mid with a good left foot, solid passing and scored a couple of great goals. Shihab:- Centre back tall & strong with solid defence didn’t let many opposition get past him. Ishann:- Mid fielder always putting in a great effort with running & passing & scored a goal or 2. Made SHFA U13 training squad. Rory:Started in goals but ended up as a defender, most

improved player. Adam:Back line left, right or mid always did the job, a strong defender and one of the team leaders. Jaygen:- Left or right back a very solid defender that wasn’t afraid to go for a run down the line with the ball. Brendan:- Centre back a pocket rocket that chased down any opposition that got passed the backs & cleared the ball. Kevin:Centre Mid attacker, strong on the ball & always backing up & helping the forwards. Good team player. What a great season, just a pity we started winning games in the second half of the comp. The stats. Main comp 18 points 6th position & won the Pennant play off with 3 wins. Missed top 4 spot by one win & 4 goals. Over all 8 wins, 3 draws & 6 losses. I know 2 of the draws & 2 losses we were the better team on the day & should have won but that’s soccer. The first 7 games:- 1 win, 1 draw & 5 losses. The second 7 games plus 3 pennant games:- 7 wins, 2 draws & 1 loss. We scored 45 goals & 39 against, +6 difference. Missed chances 147 (just joking) Games we lost, 2 games were 7-2 & 5-0, the other 4 losses were by 1 goal.

We had 3 clean sheet (no goals against) 3 games 1 goal against, 4 games 2 against, 4 games 3 against, 1 game 4 against, 1 game 5 against & 1 game 7 against. There was only 1 game we didn’t score, 1 game 1 goal, 9 games 2 goals, 2 games 3 goals & 4 games we scored 5 goals. The team that came last, Hills Grammar, in 3 games we played scored 9 goals, the most goals any team scored against us, we scored 12 the most we scored against any team. Second last Castle Hill RSL in 3 games scored 1 goal we scored 10. After round 4 North Rocks Blue were dropped down from div 1, if they weren’t we would have got a 3-0 bye win, they beat us 2 -7 in round 6. That was 3 points & a 8 goals difference, this would have put us into 4thRESULT place but that’s history. We were last at round 9, we missed a top 4 spot in the last Xwe were leading 2-0 15 minutes game, we needed a 3-0 win, into the game, but beaten 2-3 by the team that did win the GF Castle Hill United Red, not bad. There was only 4 teams we didn’t beat, 2 of them we drew 2-2 with Hills Knights & Baulko Blue, both games we should have won, the other 2 teams we only played once each North Rocks Blue 2-7 & Castle Hill Red 2-3. Is that enough stats?

Another football season has concluded. The Under 14/1 Red team arrived to preseason with two coaches with the philosophy of playing football and having fun at the same time. Early matches saw two wins and a loss to start the thoughts of a strong campaign and finals football. Another 4 rounds passed without a win with players being asked to play in unfamiliar playing positions at the same time improving their versatility and weaknesses. Midseason saw the boys finish with 2 wins and 5 losses. The second half of the season showed much improvement with players becoming comfortable in new positions and the style of football. Some hard fought games and a

bit of luck could have seen the boys make the top 4. The boys finished the second half of the season with 1 win, 4 draws and 2 losses. Having finished in Seventh place the round robin pennant afforded the team the opportunity to showcase the improvement by all players during the season. The boys grabbed this winning 2 games and having a draw running out Pennant winners for 2016. Fantastic way to round off all the good work. Finally a big thanks to Scott Keegan for managing the team. Also thanks to the parents for supporting their boys and team mates and also being fair play advocates. Enjoy the break and see you all for Season 2017. RESULT

aspects of their game have improved, and they are starting to play really well as a team. There were a few position changes, which resulted in some great games, and a solid effort was put in by everyone in the team.

It has been a fairly interesting season this year. The boys took a little while to settle back into “soccer mode”, but then remembered how to play and started winning their next few games. A bit of a wobble followed, but they managed to get back on track and finished the season well.

Of course, big thanks to Scotty & Avi for coaching again. Their enthusiasm and encouragement only add to the boys’ enjoyment of the game, as well as improving their skills.

They just missed out on the top four, but can be proud of themselves and their improvement over the season. All

A memorable season full of great performances concludes with an appearance in the season finale - Grand Final Day. We finished runners up but deserved a more favourable result. Sometimes it just doesn’t go your way. The pleasing aspect was the smiling faces and great attitude shown by the girls at the conclusion of the game and at the presentation. This team of talented young ladies showed consistency throughout the season. The regular season saw the following results achieved. 11 wins, 2 draws, 1 loss with 69 goals

2016 STATS P: 14, W: 11, D: 2, L: 1, GD: 55, Pos: 2nd RR Cup: P: 03, W: 01, D: 1, L: 1, GD: 02, Pos: 2nd scored and 14 conceded. Tremendous reward for the effort this team produced week in, week out. The team created a strong bond which grew as the season progressed. A couple of new players including a number playing their first season combined well with the returning players. We had a good coverage of positions across the park with many players playing a variety of roles throughout the season. The key goal the girls set for themselves at the start of the season was to have fun and be as competitive as they possibly could. The girls played with that in mind and this reflected in the positive approach they had towards their opponents, the referees and spectators that came to watch their games. You have to smile when you see a challenge and a player stop chasing the ball as they are checking on the well being of a player they have just tackled or bumped. It is a credit to each of them, the caring extends beyond the game and that is the pleasing aspect of what this team has created this season. The chit chat breaks during training, at the start of games. It all contributes to the success this team has achieved.

Thankyou to Kaye Cooper Wedding Stationery for their sponsorship of our BHFC website.

Paul Henson assisted coaching the team and I thank him for all of his effort. It is always good to be able to bounce ideas and / or strategy throughout games with him. He has contributed immensely to the overall success of the team.

COACH: Andrew Moulds MANAGER: Mat Knight First of all, thanks to the boys for making this year so easy for myself and Andrew to coach, it’s been a wonderful journey and the effort put in by all has been absolutely outstanding from start to finish. Another thank you should be extended to the fantastic parents for getting the boys to all the games, helping out with canteen and ground set ups, never shying away when I came to hassle you to be team official for the day and helping out at training when myself and Andrew were struggling. The final thank you should go out to super coach, Andrew Moulds who, through his consistent hard work and commitment throughout the year, took the 15/1’s to their second consecutive grand final and to the first ever in the Sydney Hills association. It’s been an eventful year and how things have changed since the team scraped away with a 1-0 win over Castle Hill Rockets Blue from a free kick in the first ever Baulkham Hills

PAGE 42

victory on field 4 in the new association. In that game many of the boys were playing division one for the first time, playing in positions completely different from the roles they ended up in and had barely trained together. Since then, the boys have developed as individuals and as a team throughout the course of the season and become a very close knit group. Special commendations should be made to the few boys playing division 1 for the first time; Mickey, Joel, Spence, Alex, James, and Amish. It has truly been a pleasure to see the growth and development of each and every one of you in taking it up a notch and playing on another level entirely. To the rest of the boys, it was great to see the support and guidance shown in mentoring these newer players and helping to make them feel welcome. The most pleasing thing about this season is that not one player didn’t improve and you should all be proud of yourselves. Another amazing feat to be proud of however is the guts

and determine shown by this team in making it through the regular season to finish 2nd, behind only an academy team that went undefeated all season and then holding them tit for tat in the grand final before a lucky heart breaking goal from a corner with 3 minutes to go gave them the win. The team not only showed determination to bounce back from a 4-1 loss in the semi’s the week before but showed great versatility as we resorted to an adjusted formation in order to counter the Rocket’s attack, with the roles they were to play only revealed the Monday before the final. Harry’s keeping was a stand out as always, whilst James filled in admirably during Harry’s various absences through injury as well as proving his worth as a solid defender on the field. Mickey and Joel improved in leaps and bounds over the course of the season in their fullback role and deserve the most improved award between them. Daz, playing the fullback role for the first time, was a lethal attacking weapon down the left edge alongside Max, assisting many of the attacking opportunities down that

side. Despite missing half the season, Amish also improved tremendously and did such a good job shutting down the Rocket’s right wing in the final, he forced a tactic change. Lachie and Josh were standouts at the back, running their hearts out all game and cleaning up any mess. Max was unstoppable down the left edge, resulting in his being the top goal scorer, whilst Noah and Ryan were dangerous down the right edge as well. Spencer poached numerous goals this season too being strong and aggressive upfront whilst Yassy played like a man reborn in the back end of the season after being moving from wing to a central attacking position. Sam and Alex controlled the midfield, with Alex learning to play aRESULT deep defensive role and Sam creating attacking opportunities by feeding the ball out wide and X through to his strikers. I couldn’t be prouder of how well you boys have performed this season and it was a pleasure coaching you. A sincere thank you from Andrew and I. We can’t wait to see what next year brings!

This season got off to a difficult start with a diverse group of lads ranging in age from 14 to 16. A perfect storm of misguided policy and selection saw them matched off against opponents in the early part of the season of up to 23 years old. It wasn’t fair and it wasn’t safe. Fortunately, changes were made to place the team in a more appropriate competition. They still remained somewhat disadvantaged by playing in the U18s competition. Despite all this, rewarding friendships were formed and enthusiasm to attend training and matches even when the team wasn’t winning on the weekends was pleasing to see. We watched the boys grow and turn into a team during the season. They gave a very good account of themselves and represented their club

particularly well in the last 7-8 matches of the season. We didn’t get the results that we deserved on several occasions. Sometimes this was our fault, sometimes it was bad luck and sometimes it was referee error. As always, the team decided its sportsman (3-2-1) by vote after each match. I would like to thank the lads for their commitment and enthusiasm, but most of all their positive attitude and determination to give their best each week even when there was no numeric chance of winning or making the finals. I would also like to thank the parents for their support of the team and hope they enjoyed watching their sons playing as much as I enjoyed coaching them.

Starting out the season as the Under 17 girls team, the SHFA created a Youth League for players 16 – 21 and after a little early confusion, we found ourselves playing in that competition. The girls enjoyed a very successful season losing only two matches all year during the home and away series and giving a good account of themselves every time they graced the field. There were some exciting matches throughout the year and it was a credit to all clubs that matches were usually played in the right spirit. The BHFC girls played really well, creating some fantastic goals and defending stoutly as the occasion demanded. Through playing an attractive brand of attacking football and working together, the results looked after themselves, scoring 49 goals and conceding only 12.

The team qualified for the semi-finals in second place just three points behind the front runners, North Rocks Blue who lost only one game all season. Of course, the round robin final series meant everyone started again on equal terms so results were important. Two very solid victories and a narrow loss saw the girls qualify for the grand final and a showdown against the North Rocks Blue side who were to have played in the Under 21’s comp this year and as a result were an older, more experienced team. The grand final was played under blue skies at North Rocks and a good crowd was on hand. The girls were quietly confident before the games but some nerves set in on the big occasion and we didn’t get the start we needed conceding a couple of early goals. We pulled back one to get back to 2-1 but conceded again before half time. 3-1 became 4-1 and that’s how it

There was no shame in losing to the premiers & we were outplayed by a better side on the day. It would be remiss of me to not acknowledge the support I have received throughout the season. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Bernadette for her assistance as team manager. Also, I am very grateful to all the parents who put their hands up to help with club duties and showed up to support the team at games. I would also like to acknowledge the efforts of the club, especially Cath Hughes, Mark Honeman & Kevin Robinson and all those on the committee who worked tirelessly be-

hind the scenes. Special call out to Jake McGaulley also who in his role as Ladies Coordinator was a great support RESULT to me & the team. Thank you X Jake! Finally, to all the players who kept on turning up and playing for each other week in, week out. There were injuries, illnesses, absences and other challenges during the season and you weathered them all with admirable determination. I am very proud of your efforts. It has been enormously rewarding to see you develop into a tight knit group – not only as team mates but also as friends and fine young ladies. You have worn the Baulkham Hills jersey with distinction and I thank you for allowing me the privilege of coaching you this year.

The Finals were as always, just so close. A 2-1 loss in golden-goal time, Grand Final.

The way these young men carried themselves through-out this season is a real tribute of how good these guys really are. Many doing their HSC, or working, and due to my own limited time - we could only really afford to train as well as possible 'once a week'. In the end it was only just enough, as I know that other teams were doing 2 and more days a week of training. Just shows the kind of commitment that was required to be able to match our team.

We were playing like the better team (when we looked to have scored a winning 2nd goal with minutes to fulltime) but the ball can bounce the other way and the whistle can change the game sometimes, as it did for us. There is just no stopping that kind of luck. From the highest of joy, to gutwrenching disbelief. The boys gave it everything a great match deserves. Everyone I have spoken to have said, "it was one of best games to watch all year."

Sportsperson of the Year (recipient to be announced at presentation), was well and truly deserved. ( 4 others were within (1) point and (3) others within just 2pts !!). This award has most often been handed to everyone, except the forwards. This player’s ability to consistently score goals, dedication and all-round good nature and humility – has him at the top of the ladder of what "true Sportsmanship" really means.

Congratulations to the Team, on a highly successful year. Premiers & Grand Finalists !! For the 1st time in the SHFA competition we took away the large Premiership shield. The most consistent team all year Well done guys !!

Coaches Award: I really needed a dart board - so many guys who tried so hard and took on executing the Coaches instructions. (Winner to be announced at presentation), this year’s winner took on board all coaching instructions and played all over the park, very much the all-rounder. Always gave 100% at training & the game. I noted that a few times, he sought my knowledge of how to better his game in specific ways - seeing this, kept him improving to a very high standard. Well done !! I was personally committed to improving on the skills and talent that all of these hard-working guys were showing from day one. I hope you can all appreciating the enormous

effort and task that these young men were able to achieve. I feel very humbled to have been their coach. We wish them all good luck in their future, both on and off the field. Be very proud of them. Many Thanks go to our volunteers in canteen and field duties. A giant thanks to Nick Flude for Managing the team and keeping me in check too :-) - as well as everyone of our supporters for your good wishes. Last but not least, Thank You, to this special team of guys that allowed me to coach them this year. A great year, that I can never forget.

Season 2016 commenced in earnest mid October when preseason commenced with some 50 odd players vying for the premier league squad of thirty. Several new players from a handful of clubs joined players from the previous season combined with several of our younger U16 and U17 players to commence the new preseason. Early February the squad was fine tuned to 28. This very tight and experienced squad would represent BHFC in the 2016 Premier League competitions in the newly established: Sydney Hills Football Association This squad in its sixth season under the coaching of Peter Denyer and Graeme Luck, with much exuberance and determination were in search of a league championship and a grand championship in the first year of this new Hills Association. This season we were known as the BHFC Premier league “Reds” following the inclusion of an additional Baulko premier league squad, made up of BH 2015’s Super League squad and a new PL reserve grade team to BHFC. After somewhat of a limited preseason against only SHFA teams due to several bans imposed by Football NSW, the competition proper kicked off with a most competitive and passionate local derby against our “Prem Blues” on “Ted 4” where the Reds prevailed laying the foundations for the upcoming season. Nine teams contested the Premier League competition throughout 2016 competing in an eighteen round competition followed by a three week final series After several rounds it was clear that our squad both in Reserves and First grade were the yard stick for this year’s premierships in both grades. By the end of 18 rounds both grades were crowned league champions with the first grade undefeated and our reserves loosing only one match. The squad also won the SHFA combined trophy for both reserves and first

grade an achievement that our squad are very proud of. This squad in 2016 as in the previous five years were a close bunch of players that played for each other and as a squad irrespective of which grade an individual played in. I believe this contributed greatly to a most a successful but most importantly and enjoyable season playing for each other each week training, playing and socializing together. Throughout the season our squad entered a team in the mid week Ray Williams knockout competition. After playing several rounds against strong premier league and AAM teams the boys prevailed by defeating Castle Hill United 1-0 in a tight final and taking the Cup in its inaugural year. Grand Final day was aRESULT day to remember with both grades adding to their season’s achievements by winning both titles and reinforcing theXdominance this squad has displayed throughout the season. Thank you to Peter Denyer [coach] Graeme Luck [Assistant coach] and Mike Raw [Assistant manger] for their efforts through out the season. Their enthusiasm, expertise and drive are greatly appreciated and a huge contributor to the successful season we achieved. To all the squad congratulations and thank you for all your efforts through out the season and the manner in which you conducted yourselves both on and off the field. What ever was put in front of us we took it in our stride and prevailed. To our supporters and families thank you for your support and encouragement throughout the season especially on those cold bleak nights at Ted Horwood in the cold and wet. We look forward to continuing this success in 2017 in our own Hills association. Enjoy the offseason

The creation of the new Association posed new challenges for last season’s Super League squad. Our numbers were decimated as several players moved to other Associations after a difficult end to season 2015. This left us with the very real possibility of not being able to form a squad. However we were pleased to welcome a former Baulko Federation player as a coach and his team of excellent young players. The task was to fill the ranks with last season’s stalwarts and a handful of new faces. As fate would have it we were matched up against our other PL squad at round 1 and while the Reserves lost narrowly Firsts got a view of what was required to be competitive this season. Reserves never looked back as they grew in confidence to record the highest total of goals scored in the grade, running second on the table to our PL ‘red’ team and only falling short of the Grand Final after the loss of the top two goal scorers through injury and an overseas posting at the crucial end of

season games. First grade on the other hand struggled to find the winning form in the first half of the season. To their credit they were not deterred and managed to turn it all around from midJune to score twice as many goals and concede half as many, recording 5 wins and a draw in the last 8 games. To finish 6th, one point behind 4th placed Castle Hill after beating them 4-2 in July was a great effort after the difficult start. This should provide a confident platform for season 2017. Great credit must be given to our Head Coach Bill Griffiths who never lost faith and fashioned a highly competitive side after the loss of so many fine players. Those who remained RESULT from 2015 lead the way and were ably supported by the crop of new faces. It was X a pleasure to see both teams turn out each week to play some fine football in a competitive but good spirited manner. Many thanks to our constant supporters who remained throughout the ‘thin’ and then the ‘thick’. We hope to see you all back at Baulko next year.

So close and yet so far. It was another great season by the ladies who were a mixture of a well established core group and some relative newbies, and this year we welcomed two sisters, Lorelle and Larissa who were a valuable addition to the team. Kath made a much anticipated comeback and we were glad that Bridget’s plans changed and she stayed on for the season. Ash was in peak form before she took off to the States and was sorely missed by the team and her family! The ‘more mature aged’ players in the team enjoyed playing both Friday nights and Sundays and somehow managed to stay relatively injury free. Drinkies after the games were a major incentive to turn up each week! We competed well most weeks even though our opponents were usually a lot younger than us and our never say die attitude paid off in so many games.

This season we made it through to the Grand final and were unfortunately beaten on the day by the Minor Premiers, however our attitude even in defeat was fantastic. I don't like to name individuals but as ever I will. A huge thanks to Kaye for managing the team. We were fortunate to have two of the O35/1 Ladies offer to dual register with us, should they be needed during the comp. Amanda didn’t play any games for us but we appreciated her support and Jackie made a strong contribution in Ash’s absence. A special mention to Emma for agreeing to sit out the GF as we had 17 players available on the day, and to our Golden Boot winner, Murks for strapping half a lounge to her chest and battling through considerable pain just to be a part of the decider. Finally I would like to say it has been absolute pleasure to coach you ladies. Roll on 2017.

This is not about a team of 11 players; it’s a team of friends, family, community and commitment. Too many coaches over-coach in a bid to motivate their team. They believe that the key to motivation lies in constantly talking, psyching up, yelling and providing a high energy coaching environment. Motivation does not work like that, in fact, just the opposite. I gave my players free time, which they could do whatever they wanted and stood back and watched. I had the pleasure in watching this team build from strength to strength even when on a weekly basis only fielded 8 players. They showed courage and perseverance and maturity beyond their years. These 11 players are the nicest, considerate, skilled players you would wish to be on your team. They

never resorted to foul or under handed behaviour. They always watched out for one another, these girls are our next women role models in how to play football. After two successive years of premiership success, the team stepped up to division 1 in the new SHFA Competition. The competition was strong, with the top two teams from Norwest really a class above the other teams.

11. At times we played with injured players on the field, just to make up our numbers. With a full squad we may well have been more competitive. But we must just accept that we were not good enough this year.

We started with high hopes and a squad of 19, including 15 players from last year. But within a few weeks, the team lost two players who defected to the Reds on a free transfer. And I thought the transfer window was closed. Oh, well, we could not match their wages!

The last game of the season was typical of the season. Against 10, we played the first 10 minutes and the last 30 minutes with 8 players and the rest of the game with 9. We led 1-0, 2-1, got back to 3-3 and then lost 5-3. In the games, we competed hard. Our lack of goal scoring ability did cost us, but the players never stopped putting in.

Right from the start we suffered – be it injuries, work commitments, holidays, weddings, end of season trips, no shows – you name it , we had it. And we had a couple of red cards for misuse of the English language, which did not help either. We played with a few as 8 players and rarely had more than

Hopefully the team will return next year and if we dip into the transfer market and make some solid purchases, we can be competitive. Well done guys! RESULT

We started the season with a few boys training from January just getting into the groove and as the grading process started we picked up some great guys along the way (Chris, Chris, Dwayne, Frank, Northo, Gav and Aryan). With the fields being closed, we took to indoor just to continue our

Our first game set the tone for the rest of the season, even though we had a 2 all draw we gelled together as a new team quite well, we showed our ability to knock the ball around all over the park and truly hold possession, it was clear that this year our goals were set high.

PAGE 51

With the season affected by so many rain delayed matches it was a true test for the older guys on the team to stay fit and not lose our momentum as most of the other teams were half our age. We did struggle with the games after those periods of not playing and training but it just made us stronger and work harder and it got us to the grand final, but those games also cost us the minor premiership dropping points where we shouldn’t have. For the minor premiership it game down to the last round 1st vs 2nd and we needed a win and they needed at least a draw, but yet again lady luck wasn’t our side. We came away with nil all draw but by far we outplayed them but we just couldn’t out play the posts :) and hence we went away happy with 2nd. The final series round robin we got off to a great start, then slipping on the 2nd game and now coming down to a must win 3rd game again playing the team who came 1st. We went down early in the first half to a great cross by them but

we showed true determination and resilience to score 2 goals in the final 10 minutes to setup the re-match in the Grand Final. The Grand Final after being moved due to wet weather we had 3 players who wouldn’t play as they had prior arrangements and playing with injured players we just couldn’t finish the season as well as we hoped again I thought we were the better team on the day but lady luck wasn’t on our side and they scored against the run of play and we just couldn’t finish our chancesE It is the curse of Fred Caterson field 2 for us, we just can’t seem to win on that pitch. Even though we lost the Grand Final, we had a great season and played some great football and we are all very much looking forward to next year. Another solid year. This year we went from AAM14 to AAM4 with the new Hills competition. All year we looked like the team to beat when we had a full team. Unfortunately most games we managed to scramble 9 players together for a bit of fun.

In summary the season went really well and we ended up in 2nd place, looking to make an impact on the final series. Coming second against an undefeated side was a great result. Highlights included a few hattricks through out the year after some debatable morning bbq’s, waving fingers at goalkeepers who liked shut outs, touching moustaches delicately, midfielders missing about 4 dead ringers in front of goal, Nik’s goalkeeping pants blinding strikers from scoring goals, and Bryn taking the finest free kick of all time. Many goal of the season’s exist with a top for and a against record. Unfortunately, moving into the final series was probably the most disappointing of this team’s history. The first semi final started fantastically. One nil down after 30 minutes to win it 2 -1 with two goals in the last 8 minutes by the big P was a great way to start the final series. 60 minutes into the second final we were one nil up with a foot in the door against 4th place. When you are amongst friends there is always a good time to be had, even if the winning doesn’t come easy or in fact at all. The new comp provided a bit of a distraction and discussion, but in general a good brave move by our club to be progressive and look to the future. I was also impressed with the continued presence of parents at the games, despite the boys being mostly over 20. This season found us in the AAM6 comp, quite a step up from the 15’s. Must have been our excellent play during last season. The usual blokes were there, (the nucleus from the junior years), a couple of dads, a brother and quite a few new players. The dynamics of the team changed with some young ones and dare I say some middle-aged blokes (well 30-ish). This brought a great range of skills and interesting personalities that provided a very social time, so thanks to all the new players. Many continued thanks to Jacqui, from all of us, coordinating the team and staying on top of that ghastly admin stuff that has to be done. You are our glue. Their record speaks for itself, with 14 played, 11 won, 2 drawn and 1 forfeit, 61 goals for and 13 against, with a goal difference of 48+. Throughout the season there were some distinct features of the team’s development evident to Pete and Dave. The most obvious one was that some of our less experienced players, having played Summer Comp in the off season, had really matured as players (that’s meant in the nicest possible way) with excellent touch, greater understanding of their positions and responsibilities, and tremendous selfconfidence. Secondly, this team was undoubtedly the fastest and fittest in Division 1, outsprinting and outlasting any opponent that challenged them during the year. Thirdly, the influence of the experienced and talented central midfielders set the platform for some really outstanding football from every player during the year. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, on a couple of occasions when the chips were down and Pete really demanded more, confronted with some exceptionally physical and aggressive opponents, the ladies seriously stood up to be counted! Breaking it down, if a football team is only as good as its ‘KEEPER, Sarah ultimately adopted this role permanently and played the house down week in, week out. Her safe hands and reading of the game gave our defence all the confidence they needed to perform superbly.

RESULT COACH: Peter Blakeley MANAGER: David & X Kellie Lumley

The DEFENCE was almost impenetrable, marshalled by Jann, demonstrating that even the most experienced attacking forces could never get an easy goal, or even an easy chance at goal. The strength, speed and commitment showed by our defence was unparalleled. Our MIDFIELD was the engine of the team and often the main weapon of destruction too! The control and vision of the central players complimented the speed and venom of the outside players perfectly. No-one wanted to mark them, and when they were firing, no one could contain them. Our FORWARDS and STRIKERS were quick and decisive, taking opportunities efficiently and often shooting lethally. Their great quality was that goals could come from anywhere, so when one might not have been firing, another always was. It’s a great attack that shares the responsibilities and the spoils! Finally, our SUPPORTERS were ever present. On so many cold Friday nights, even when some of the players were doubting themselves, there would be the partners, kids, family and friends. The social connections are a big part of the fabric of this team, and the supporters just reflect that fact. The ladies truly appreciate it and wouldn’t perform as well without their friends on the sideline. In a fantastic semi final series, our ladies forged their way through three tough matches, eventually securing their spot in the Grand Final. What a wonderful experience to have the very first SHFA Grand Final played between the two Baulko teams in division 1. The Blues had done an amazing job to get there, and in an exciting finale, our O35 Reds prevailed. Two great goals had established our lead, then the defence repelled a late surge from the Blues. A 2-0 win led to crazy celebrations and a big night back at the club. What a season!!!

Ladies what a fantastic seasonDDDDDDDDDDDD. For a team that was put together at the very last minute and played in a league that was higher than we originally intended we did very well.We started the season very quietly with players getting to know each other but every week we kept plugging away at it and by the time finals came along we started to play as a team. Our round robin results were excellent but it is no more than the ladies deserved. The Grand

Final was a great experience for the ladies and unfortunately the game was not to be. I would like to thank the ladies for making my Friday nights very enjoyable also would like to thank Glen for managing. On a final note there was one lady who will remain anonymous but her age and dedication to playing football used to inspire the team and myself every week. Thanks Ladies

The season that was 2016 for the (slightly) Over 35 Ladies Division 2. It has to be said that one of the most memorable facets of this season was early injuries. Before we even had a chance to kick a ball in anger we lost a very strong fast player in Helga, three games into the season we lost an equally strong player in Jackie Coates with a very badly broken leg, these were two of the most horrible injuries I have seen. Surprising therefore that we appeared to be doing very well despite the early loss of two players. In fact by game four of the season we were in 2nd place and had scored more goals and amassed more points than we had in the entire previous season. The young novices from the previous year had matured into a team which could control the ball, pass to a player in their own team and even start to execute planned moves. Having played soccer all my life I was well aware of the need to feel a competitive spirit in any team , this group of ladies are amongst the most competitive I have ever come across . Equally surprising has been the realisation that, regardless of the fact that the girls started playing so late in life, most had a position on the park which seemed to come naturally. The defenders were so good at their job it was very difficult to use substitutes in that area. Goalkeeper (I’m so nervous) Lee in fact showed no sign of nerves and with some great work kept us in many games. Mel P, Maria, Jenny and Kyle were for the greater part of the season impenetrable, although we did have an annoying habit of loosing very hard games by one goal in the last five mins. It has to be said however that those losses were because we did not score.

We have a very strong midfield and had the luxury of being able to use a number of good substitutes. Karen L, Nurse, Jo H and Bron were the mainstays but our ex professional player Mel Davies gave us a new dimension of calmness control and very good distribution. Susan and Margaret were not able to join us often enough during the season but when they did they brought a power and strength. Most of our goals came from a well organised midfield capable of passing into space .We had the two fastest forwards in the comp Jo Edge and Kerstin simply could not be caught by any defence. Kerstin scored 18 goals it was like watching the movie Groundhog day (each goal almost identical) Karen I, the most improved player of the year, Katrina and Rachel were the most substituted with the other players up front, the difficulty being we had to many who could not be taken from defence nor midfield. These three did however show greater determination than most fighting hard to be regularly in the team. I am fairly sure that everyone put the ball in the opposition goal this year. This team has not yet finished improving there is more to come. I know what we need to learn next year to keep the improvement going but it would require greater attendance at training which is difficult for working mums but we can improve further. Grand finalists in only our 2nd year was truly a terrific effort. We had a number of key players missing due to the delayed grand final date and it would be easy to say that was why we did not win, it would also be untrue. The performance in the grand final was in my opinion the most hard fought I had seen during the entire year , those who normally started on the bench joined the rest of the team in the best performance of the season , proving that perhaps the coach should look at the team structure with more confidence in the year to come. Well done all

The year’s team was an amalgam of players from last year’s O35/2’Blues, O35/6’s and new ones so it took a little time to slot players into their best position. First game, our 18 shots v their 3. Result 1-2 and they scored all the goals! Fortunately coach Neil Q brought his experience and calmness to the mixing bowl and made sure the ingredients were just right after a disastrous start. From then we became a real team, the spirit so good you wish you could bottle it, some of the play exceptional, a joy to watch and the goals, Woof!!. An early blow though was Billy breaking a finger in only our second game but he came back later in the season to star once again between the posts. Fortunately Babak was an able deputy before he too succumbed to injury.

To the end of the season we only lost two more games finishing a squeaky oh, so close one point behind Hills Knights Blue the eventual Premiers but we had the distinction of being the only team to beat them twice in the season proper. So to the Round Robin series. First game saw us lose 1-2 in a poor game v Castle Hills RSL to leave us having to win two sudden death matches. Must have been the switch to indoor soccer training but both Hills Knights Red 2-0, then Blue 4-2, were ‘blown away’ in successive weeks to leave us facing Castle Hills RSL in this coming Saturday’s Grand Final. Our best performances were mainly away from home (seeing as we only had four home games the whole season) with some special moments and really outstanding goals to savour. Kieran’s header v Hills Knights Blue, his blockbuster shots v North Rocks Blue and Hills Knights Red, Payman, scoring many goals with his speed and darting runs finishing coolly

under pressure but his explosive shot in the 2nd Round Robin match v Hills Knights Blue was exceptional, Rod’s delight that Jill had seen him score, Neil (plus two outstanding lobs) and Khosro our penalty takers with ice in their veins and, weighing in with all important goals were Nick, Glen, Hoss, Peter, Pejman and Albert (not forgetting OG).

Jeffrey, Neil G, Ricky, and Shaun along with the midfield engine room of Albert, Hoss, Khosro, Kieran, Neil Q, Nick, Pejman, Peter and Rod. The pointy end had that twinkly toed magician Payman sowing terror in the opposition aided and abetted by anyone of the aforesaid including that speedster, Terry.

40 goals scored so far: - Payman 14, Neil Q 5, Khosro 4, Glen, Kieran & Rod 3, Nick & OG 2, Albert, Hoss, Peter & Pejman 1.

So, the final outcome is not yet known but it has been a pleasure to have been associated and play with this team of fine, young (for me) men. I thank them for their camaraderie and exceptional team spirit and wish the team well in the quest for that cherry, the GF trophy. Just don’t forget the beers!!

Many of the group were able to play in more than one position and Neil Q, aided by Hoss, stirred the ingredients mixing and matching to great effect but none of our goals were possible without strong defence from Alex, Glen, Jamie, Jason,

MANAGER: Brad Wyber Season 2016 was a mixed bag for us. We struggled early on in the season and found it hard to find the net that saw us languishing at the bottom of the table for the first half of the season. The second half of the season got underway and we found some form. With a win under our belts the enthusiasm was back!

were up in the beginning of the 3rd game however they came back at us with 2 quick goals and some nerves set in at half time. Cory had his usual half time speech “it’s all downhill from here” and with that he went out and slotted a 7 goal haul giving us an 8-2 victory and the converted inaugural Sydney Hills FA silverware that will be worn with pride.

Although making the top half of the comp was a tall order, we gave it a shake, disposing of some opponents on the run to the finish that had us out of the finals however proud of the effort put in. A great second half resurgence with everyone on the park performing well.

A big thank you to our club for a fantastic year and an equally big thank you to the Sydney Hills Football Association for a great comp that will only get bigger and better.

The round robin series was now in our sights, we wanted some redemption from an average season. Games 1 and 2 went our way with some solid wins. The silverware within reach, we needed to win or draw to take home the prize. We

Lastly, we would like to extend our well wishes to our fearless goal keeper of the last however many years, Matt Vickers, who is leaving us for the bright lights of Canberra. He opted out of making the commute to play for Baulko each Saturday. Good luck mate.

7.30 PM MONDAY OCTOBER 31, 2016 BAULKHAM HILLS SPORTS CLUB This team, the newly titled Baulkham Hills O/35 3 Red, has had its most successful season ever. A new coach, and a sprinkling of new players saw us finish the regular season in second place with a 9, 2 and 3 record. We entered the Round Robin Finals on an unbeaten run that spanned a number of weeks, confident in the knowledge we had beaten all other finalists at least once. As the only first week winner, a win or at least a draw in the second round would have ensured a Grand Final appearance. Instead, we imploded under the “We have never been here before pressure" with a 2-0 loss. "Where was the passion?” I heard some players ask, and others respond,

"don’t mistake passion for aggression”. Our final match against eventual Champion Castle Hill Rockets was a winner-take-all affair. A 1-1 final result led to us missing the Grand Final by a point. Whilst disappointed and RESULT thinking what could have been, we know we have come a long wayD and our confidence is high.

Our total goals reached a record number so only a small number of players will be doing the nudie run this year. I hope it’s warm enough. We now await Season 2017 a season where we hope to go those extra steps to glory.

Right from the start the team gelled well. The O35/45 Gala day we won the Pennant Champion trophy & probably could have done better but fitness, injuries & boots took there toll.

Guys it’s been a great season playing we you, really had a great time on & off the field, in the last 21 years I’ve been playing, this is one off the best teams I’ve played with. Next year we should win the comp.

Made it to round 8 in first position with 1 loss, then something happen, we lost a couple of player through injury.

Here’s the stats.

Dave with his heart muscle, Joey rib, Steve leg, Brett & Gave. Karpreet & Hugo went away, the rain stopping training & we didn’t get back to training from then on. We only won 2 games in the next 9 games. Even when all were back we had lost our mojo for scoring, all games we were the best team on the field but couldn’t put enough goals in, every game we lost was by 1 goal. The 2 GF teams couldn’t believe it was not us they had to play. Both thought we were the best team in the comp. The team:Nath in goal a tower of strength could stop anything except bad bounces.

After last year’s Grand Final win the lads were looking forward to their first year playing in the Sydney Hills Football Association. As the draw came out it was disappointing to see the relatively small table, and only one division, but exciting to see two teams from the new clubs AND especially the addition of our own Baulko O45 Blues! What a season it would prove to beD The loss of some club stalwarts and stars is always disconcerting, but the new guys in this team brought more than a bucketful of experience and ability. In the preseason we showed our mettle with a plucky win in the O35 Round Robin, and the team was taking on a nicely balanced shape and style. In our very first match we went behind before coming back with a flurry of goals, then proceeded to put together a series of wins, including patches of fluent and attractive play and some really good goals. Having established ourselves near the top of the table, we fell into a bit of a rut, losing to some strong opponents, then succumbing to our own Baulko Blues in a fiery encounter. Suddenly we had slumped to third and our season was looking a bit shaky. The big wet had a huge impact on the comp, and during the disrupted rounds we started to find a bit of form again. A couple of big wins consolidated our place in the semis and

ultimately we came in third. Our record was nothing flash: with just 8 wins, 3 draws and 3 losses, scoring 39 goals and conceding 13 for a goal difference of 26 plus. Amazingly though, it was remarkably similar to last year, and we certainly felt we could win the whole thing again. The semis were exciting. We played an excellent, high quality draw against the favourites, followed by a great win over the Premiers, then a plucky, hard fought win over our own Blues. Our opponents in the Grand Final would be the Rouse Hill Rangers; a big strong outfit formerly of Glenhaven, who were the pundits’ faves. They came into the match much the same way North Rocks did last year. They left the same way North Rocks did too, with Runners Up medallions around their necks. We had prevailed, we had survived, not so much with our characteristic flow and style, but with grit and determination. Rangers had rather the better of play early, but they ran out of puff, and you can’t do that against us! In golden goal extra time Joey smashed one into the back of the net and we had won again! That’s two in a row for the Red 45 machine, and enough to ensure we’ll be back for a third next year. Great season boys, thanks to the club, our loyal supporters, and ESPECIALLY to Barry Mears. You’re a legend Baz. This one’s for you. See you in 2017D

A very enjoyable season with a great bunch of blokes. We were in 35/3’s last year so the change of pace in O45s was a welcome one. It was a shaky old start to the season, we found ourselves at the bottom of the table after 5 rounds (1 draw, 4 losses). We then went on a 3 match win streak and lost only 2 games between round 6 and 14 finishing 4th in our inaugural 45s season. Unfortunately we lost all 3 of our round robin finals games 1 nil. So close yet so far. Special thanks to Con Velesio (aka Little Con) for preparing food

and drinks every week. Also to Matt Moloney for volunteering to be keeper after our original choice took off after 5 rounds (the win streak was not a coincidence). Finally thanks to all in the team, Andrew, Angelo, Brooksie, Big Con, Little Con, Damir, Greg, JD, Mark, Mastro, Big Matt, PK, Rickster, Todd, Troy and Rossco the octopus. You all made it just as much about mateship as it was about playing football. Looking forward to doing it all again next year.
