Security Fence at Melaya

We are very happy to report that the much needed security fence at our Children’s Home in Melaya was finished! Safety and security are constant concerns in Melaya. This Home has an extensive landscape to be looked after. 50% Of the area is being used for building facilities and the rest is for agriculture and farming activities. Unfortunately, since many years ago, the property is only surrounded 40% by fence wall line. As a result, few children lost their belonging in the laundry which is located nearby uncovered border line. Thankfully to the Membantu Development Fund (Coff Harbour Christian Community School NSW) that our 76 children and staff at Melaya now have the added security of a fence to ensure they are safe in this environment; safe from the possibility of outsider criminal’s act and also theft rate will decrease.

Main Achievement at Blimbingsari

0ur kitchen in Blimbingsari was in very awful condition, its ceilings had so many leaks and during the rainy season, the water fell down from the ceiling made our kitchen extremely wet and it might be very dangerous because staff and kids might fall down due to slippery floor. The renovation happened and was completed in June. The money for this renovation is funded by Deon Erasmus. The broken leak ceiling were replaced and we also installed fly screen which is about 1mm thick surrounding the kitchen area on the windows.

Now the kitchen looks fantastic, our cooks can work without needs to be worried their foods are getting wet by rain water. The important thing is they and the children are away from danger when they are working or helping out at the kitchen. In addition, the cooks are not bothered by flies or termites anymore and the food preparation is more hygienic.

Children’ Activities Entrepreneurship Training By Stella’s Child Foundation

We know that tomorrow’s jobs and economy are going to be created by leaders and entrepreneurs we foster today. That is why, we cooperated with Stella's Child Foundation (every Wednesday) to gave our kids the opportunity to learn businesses and finance, teaching the children to seek out opportunities and take action on them, which we believe it would bring contribution to their level of future success. Not every child will be an entrepreneur when he or she grows up, but by doing this training, we have inspired every child to have an entrepreneurial spirit: to lead confidently, think critically and creatively, be financially responsible, and understand the value of team work. Here, they also learnt how to develop their talents and gifts, shared and developed their innovative ideas, and made the critical

Financial Management Training by Stella’s Child Foundation We believe that financial skills are important to navigating life, will help them to become responsible when making and spending money in their lives, therefore, it's important to work on child's financial awareness. It’s surprising that our schools in Indonesia don’t teach children about money. But we were very lucky that Timothy J. Cameron, founder of Stella’s Child Foundation, provided opportunity in learning about money management. He shared about how important to handle money in life. Shortly, the training given has provided an understanding of the importance of budgeting and techniques for proper financial management and spending and has helped us to put our children on the road to handling money responsibly.

Teaching Hygiene to the Children Educating children on good hygiene is the best way to avoid the spread of infection and diseases. Teaching the principles of correct hygiene at an early age can help keep individuals healthy in later life, and be taught to future generations. We believe that principles of hygiene should be made part of their everyday life and the best way for our caregivers to teach the children about good hygiene is by demonstrating the proper way to clean their hands. Hand-washing is the single most important factor relating to the spread of infection, not just for children but for adults of all ages. Children encouraged to wash their hands before eating, after using the toilet, after handling animals, if they are ill etc. Washing is essential to avoid developing threadworms which cause itching around the anus and genitals, and are contracted from poor toilet hygiene or from animals. When a child is ready to go to school, they are expected to be able to wash their own hands; and our caregivers made sure this is happening so that infections and diseases can spread. We explained how it's important to clean hands using simple terms: "We wash with soap and water to get rid of dirt and germs that could make us sick." Then take him through the process. Turn on the water (stick to cold to be safe), have him wet his hands, pump the soap dispenser once, and lather up by rubbing together the front and back of his hands and in between his fingers and we made sure they washes for at least 20 seconds then to rinse and dry their hands.
