ICOM-CECA Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting 2012 The first ICOM-CECA Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting took place at the National Museum of Japanese History in Chiba, Japan from November 30 to December 1, 2012. With the theme “The Possibilities of Museum Education,” this meeting was organized by CECA, the National Museum of Japanese History, and the National Museum of Ethnology (Osaka, Japan). Close to 200 people attended the two-day meeting which featured five keynote speakers, 14 individual presentations, and 12 poster sessions. The meeting brought together academics and museum professionals from South Korea, Australia, China, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and Japan. Five international keynote speakers provided a variety of approaches and practices in museum education as well as the involvement of (or independence from) the government in museum education. Individual presentations were presented in three sub-themes; Museum Experiences and Education Activities, Human Resource Development for Museums, and Partnerships with Society; each series of presentations was followed by a discussion. A set of transcripts of the meeting will be published on the National Museum of Japanese History’s website (www.rekihaku.ac.jp/english) fall, 2013.
