Explain.

4. a) A glass fibre filter paper is found to have an initial weight of 8.02345 gms. After 24 hrs of sampling using an high volume air sampler the filter paper weighed 8.16432 gms and the air flow at the start and the end of the experiment is 1.1m 3/min and 0.9m3/min. Calculate the concentration of suspended particulate matter.

5. a) What are the principles ? What is adsorption define ? And differentiate between physical and chemical adsorption. Name the adsorbents and their major uses. 10 b) Air stream with a flow rate of 7mts/sec is passed thro’ a cyclone of standard proportion. The dia. of the cyclone is 2 mts and air temp. being 77°C. Detm. : i) The removal efficiency for a particle of density 1.5 gmts/cm3 and dia.10 μ m ii) The collection efficiency based on the above if a basic of cyclones with diameter of 24 cms are used instead of a single large unit. 6. a) Describe briefly the pollution caused by thermal power plants and its abatement.
