CITY OF OJAI HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION AGENDA Regular Meeting Thursday, June 9, 2016 The regular meeting of the Ojai Historic Preservation Commission will be called to order by the Chair on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the Ojai City Hall Council Chambers, 401 South Ventura Street, Ojai, California. While Historic Preservation Commission is in session all in attendance are expected to maintain order and decorum and to obey the orders of the Chair. Roll Call Pledge of Allegiance Public Communications Members of the public wishing to address the Historic Preservation Commission on items appearing on the agenda are requested to complete a “speaker’s card” and file it with the Secretary prior to the start of the Historic Preservation Commission meeting. Cards are available in the Council Chambers Lobby. All comments should be limited to three minutes, unless additional time is granted by the Chair. Speakers should state their name and address for the record and must direct their comments to the Chair, not the audience or press. While the Historic Preservation Commission is in session, members of the Commission, City staff, and members of the audience are expected to maintain order and decorum and to obey the orders of the Chair1. Public Hearing Items 2. HPC Sign Permit (S 16-09) for the business “Gem Quest Jewelers” located at 324 E. Ojai Avenue on the City of Ojai Historic Landmark No. 5, the Ojai Arcade. The General Plan designation of the site is Downtown Commercial and the Zoning classification of the site is Neighborhood Commercial with Floor Area Ratio overlay (C-1-1.5). A Categorical Exemption has been prepared pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act. Property Owner: Stanley Lazarus. Applicant: Steve and Cathy Brandt. CONTINUED FROM MAY 12, 2016 HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING. Recommendation: Approve the revised colors for Sign Permit (S 16-09) based on the findings that the sign must be consistent with the Arcade Design Guidelines.

Proposal for a Historic District for the Taormina Community Recommendation: Receive a presentation from the applicants for the Taormina Community Historic District, receive public comment, and continue the public hearing to July 14, 2016.

Review Text Amendment (TA 15-10) the proposed amendments to the Ojai Municipal Code, Title 4, Chapter 8, Cultural and Historic Preservation and report of Ad Hoc Historic Preservation Commission Committee’s consideration of these amendments, related to cultural and historic preservation and landmark regulations and procedures. Recommendation: Discuss and recommend approval to the City Council the proposed amendments to Ojai Municipal Code Title 4, Chapter 8, related to Cultural and Historic Preservation.
Discussion Items 5. Budget Proposal Recommendations: 1. Take public comment on the proposed terms for proposed amendments to Ojai Municipal Code Title 4, Chapter 8, related to Cultural and Historic Preservation. 2. Discuss the proposed amendments and make a recommendation on terms for the proposed amendments to the City Council for consideration and further direction by the City Council.
