Pathway to the Seal of Biliteracy Award The State Seal of Biliteracy recognizes students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school. Appearing on the transcript of the graduating senior, the State Seal of Biliteracy is a statement of accomplishment. It helps to signal evidence of a student’s college and career readiness, and for engagement as a global citizen in a 21st Century skills economy. At Anaheim Elementary School District, we created a pathway for students to be recognized for their successful academic achievement in English and Spanish. Students who participate in our Dual Language Immersion Academy will have the opportunity to obtain the Pathway to the Seal of Biliteracy Award. The intent of this award is to encourage students to continue their journey towards biliteracy as they progress through middle school and high school. Students who meet this local criteria will be granted the Pathway to the Seal of Biliteracy Award at the end of sixth grade. The State Seal of Biliteracy, AB 815 was signed by the governor and enacted into California Education Code on October 8, 2011.

Overview Dual Language Immersion is a unique educational model where children learn to think, read, write and communicate naturally in two languages: English and Spanish. Native Spanish and native English speaking students study together, beginning in kindergarten through 6th grade, to be biliterate in both languages.

Benefits 

Empowers students to achieve the highest academic, social, and linguistic skills furthering their access to future educational and economic success.

Students are instructed according to the Common Core Content Standards for grade level competencies in all subject areas in both English and Spanish.  Learning a second language stimulates the brain to develop higher level reasoning skills, which transfer to complex critical thinking in math, science, and language arts. 



Children who are educated in two languages have stronger self-esteem with more tolerance for, and more interest in, other cultures.

Dual Language Immersion Academy

Language of Instruction:

Goals  To develop language

proficiency in English and Spanish for native English speakers and native Spanish speakers.  To ensure academic excellence as

outlined in the school district's core curriculum by increasing scholastic achievement in two languages.  To cultivate an understanding and

appreciation of diverse cultures through the curriculum.  To empower parents to become active

participants in their children’s education.

Instructional Design The instructional approaches for Dual Language Immersion follow sound principles underlying bilingual and foreign language teaching methods. Learning is provided in an environment that allows students to engage in communication and collaboration opportunities with one another. The needs of each language group include: primary language development, secondary language acquisition, development of academic vocabulary and literacy skills, and the development of a positive self-image and cross-cultural understanding. The program’s curriculum utilizes communicationbased instruction, balanced literacy strategies and interactive participation. Initially all students learn to read and write in Spanish. English literacy skills are added as students progress through the grade levels.

Hacia el Sello de Bilingüismo El Sello del Estado de Alfabetización Bilingüe reconoce a los estudiantes que han estudiado y obtenido la calificación de proficiente o hábil en dos o más idiomas en la preparatoria. El Sello del Estado de Alfabetización Bilingüe aparece en la transcripción académica en el último año de la preparatoria. Esta es la evidencia que señala la preparación del estudiante para la universidad o para una carrera, y para su participación como un ciudadano preparado para una economía que requiere destrezas del Siglo 21. En el Distrito de Escuelas Primarias de Anaheim, hemos creado un camino donde los estudiantes serán reconocidos por sus exitosos logros académicos en inglés y español. Los estudiantes que hayan participado en nuestra Academia de Inmersión en Dos Idiomas tendrán la oportunidad de obtener el reconocimiento Camino Hacia el Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe. El propósito del premio es motivar a los estudiantes a continuar su camino hacia la educación bilingüe a medida que avanzan en la escuela intermedia. Los estudiantes que cumplan con estos requisitos locales recibirán el reconocimiento Camino Hacia el Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe. El Sello del Estado de Alfabetización Bilingüe, AB 815 fue firmado por el gobernador y promulgada en el Código de Educación de California, el 8 de octubre del 2011.

Visión General El Programa de Inmersión dual es un modelo educacional único donde los niños aprenden a pensar, leer, escribir y a comunicarse naturalmente en dos idiomas: en inglés y en español. Los estudiantes que hablan un español e inglés nativo estudian juntos, comenzando desde el kínder. Este es un programa intensivo de kínder hasta 6º grado para ser educados en los dos idiomas.

obtengan los más altos estándares académicos, sociales y habilidades lingüísticas para determinar ahora su futuro educacional y económico.  La instrucción de los estudiantes está de

acorde con el Contenido de los Estándares de California que corresponden al nivel del grado en todas las áreas en inglés y español.  El aprendizaje de un segundo idioma

estimula el cerebro para desarrollar habilidades de un alto nivel de racionamiento, lo cual se transfieren a un complejo pensamiento crítico en las matemáticas, las ciencias y las artes del lenguaje.  Los niños que son educados en dos idiomas

Academia de Inmersión de Dos Idiomas

Idioma de Instrucción:

Metas  Desarrollar el dominio de los

idiomas del inglés y español para los hablantes nativos en inglés y los hablantes nativos en español.  Asegurar la excelencia académica como

está establecido en el currículo del distrito, incrementando el rendimiento escolar en los dos idiomas.  Cultivar el entendimiento y la apreciación de las diversas culturas a través del currículo.  Capacitar a los padres para que participen activamente en la educación de sus hijos.

Diseño de la Instrucción El enfoque de enseñanza para la Inmersión de Dos Idiomas sigue los principios solidos fundamentales de los métodos de la enseñanza bilingüe y de un idioma extranjero. El aprendizaje se provee en un ambiente significativo que les permite a los estudiantes interactuar en oportunidades de comunicación y colaboración entre ellos. Las necesidades del idioma en cada grupo incluyen: el desarrollo de su idioma primario; la adquisición del segundo idioma, desarrollando el vocabulario académico y las habilidades literarias, y el desarrollo de una autoimagen positiva y el entendimiento intercultural. El currículo del programa utiliza la instrucción basada en la comunicación, el balance de las estrategias literarias y la participación interactiva. Inicialmente todos los estudiantes aprenden a leer y a escribir en español. Las habilidades literarias del inglés se van anexando en el progreso del estudiante, a través de los niveles de grado.
