A Note to Forensics Parents Dear Parents, Thank you for supporting our team! We appreciate all that you do to support your child and the Walled Lake Northern Forensics Team! If you or other guests are attending an invitational, please adhere to and communicate to your guests the following expectations: 1.

Turn off (not “silent,” not “vibrate,” OFF) all electronic devices when sitting in a round. Your child can be disqualified from the competition if you or their guests cause any distractions in the round.

2.

Please keep volume to a minimum in the halls, during rounds.

3.

Refrain from distracting behaviors during rounds, like chewing gum, or taking notes, or making faces. 

4.

Refrain from commenting on performances during rounds.

5.

Refrain from making comparisons during or after rounds- positive comments and good sportsmanship please! Do NOT make any negative comments about anyone’s performance, even in the halls. (Save all unfavorable comments for the car ride home.) Our behaviors and comments are a reflection of our school, our team, and our sportsmanship.

6.

Keep in mind that some content might be shocking and or disturbing. If you are bringing children to a competition, they should ONLY be attending “Storytelling” or “Multiple,” as the other categories often have adult and mature language and content that may not be acceptable for children to observe.

7.

All competitors are expected to attend the ENTIRE competition, including the awards ceremony. If there is a schedule conflict with times, please inform Coach Ritter Prior to the day of completion. If there is an Emergency or unforeseen circumstances, students must speak with Mr. Ritter in person, before leaving (texting and voicemail DO NOT count), or if he is in a round and it is urgent, call Mrs. Ritter ___-___-______

A note about Parent Support: 1.

We ask that all parents donate a SNACK or a Beverage one or more times during the season for the team, (enough for 20 people). We’ve always been blessed in the past with great parents who were generous and kept our kids hydrated and well-fed, during our ten plus hours at each competition. Please communicate to your child or directly with the coach, which competition you would like to volunteer to donate a snack or beverage.

2.

Communicate with your child in advance about any conflicts with the competition schedule, as they should have already provided you a copy for your refrigerator. There is a $25 drop fee that students must pay if they drop after they are registered for a competition, for any reason. This is a major inconvenience for the Host school.

3.

Please communicate with your child in advance about transportation both TO and FROM each competition.

4.

Love and support your child; tell them how wonderful they are; and offer them positive feedback along with creative ideas for improvement when you watch their piece, at least once a week. 

5.

Come, watch them, and join us at competitions, as you are able to.

If you have any questions or concerns during the season, don’t hesitate to call Mrs. Ritter at ___-___-______, or Mr. Ritter at ___-_________. We look forward to seeing you, and working with your children during this season.
