Shana Tovah everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed Rosh Hashana and are looking forward to a happy and sweet new year. It is that time of year again with festivals aplenty but the community doesn’t come to a stand still. As well as the synagogue services, there are speakers, events and socials all coming up. Keep up to date with everything that is happening through this newsletter, synagogue noticeboards, Jlife magazine, Radio Jcom, and the blog which I update daily: LivingJewishinLeeds.blogspot.com Not only do we want to keep the ‘regulars’ informed, but one thing we want to do is reach out to those currently unaffiliated with any synagogue or communal body. If you know someone like this, why not show them the newsletter or bring them along to an event? If there is nothing of interest, get them to contact me and see how the community can better serve them. Leed’s very own community radio station broadcasting 24 hours a day!
A Day in the Life.... I’ve been in this job now for almost a month and time has flown by! Much of the job is an invisible one working behind the scenes. Whether it be administration for a project, organising for people to do things or simply stuffing envelopes (!), there is always much to do. Equally, however, I have to maintain a ‘public presence’. This means visiting all the synagogues, turning up at communal events, meeting various rabbonim and lay leaders. Over the last month I have been furiously emailing and meeting different people. However, given the sheer number or groups and activities in Leeds I haven’t reached everyone yet. Why not introduce yourself to me by giving me a call or dropping me an email? I also want to hear from any lay member of the community have comments or questions.

Leeds Chaverim is a simple idea. It's about a bunch of Jewish people in their 20s and 30s who are looking to add an extra Jewish dimension to their lives. Having experienced the atmosphere at Limmud, where you socialise and learn in a relaxed, friendly way, a couple of people got together to try and recreate a similar Jewish place in Leeds. Word spread and gradually the idea became a reality. Once a month Leeds Chaverim hold a Friday night meal at someone’s house, where everyone brings along a vegetarian dish. They also assist in voluntary endeavours. The next meal is on 17th October. For more information see www.leedschaverim.co.uk
