There will be 5 tests and 3 essays written each semester. A grade report will be sent home the last Friday of each month and should be signed & returned each Monday for a daily grade. We will have K-Bar (Kick Back And Read) assignments due each Friday. For these assignments each student will be asked to read an article from a magazine and relate the literary elements found to those that we are learning in class. These assignments will count as daily grades. There will also be many other daily grades throughout the semester, most likely every day.
Ms. Graham’s Literature Schedule
~Each student will be in my classroom for one hour each day. Your child’s schedule will show you which block they will see me.
Monday Vocabulary
Tuesday Grammar
Wednesday Color Wheel
Thursday Vocab/Novel
Friday K-Bar
~Vocabulary words and definitions will be given out on Mondays. Students are expected to study these at home and be prepared for a quiz each Thursday. ~Grammar techniques will be taught every other Tuesday and practiced with in class essays on each Tuesday in between. ~The color wheel consists of many different lessons that will be taught throughout the semester. A student will be picked at random to spin the color wheel, and after a lesson has been chosen it will be replaced with another lesson. (Five of these days will be set aside for tests.) ~Vocabulary quizzes are taken each Thursday, and after this we read and/or discuss the novel that the class is currently reading. ~K-Bar (Kick Back and Read) is an opportunity for each student to read some type of article of their choice (only if it is school appropriate). The first 30 minutes of class will be spent reading the article. The next 20 minutes will be spent picking out literary techniques that are being taught in class at the time. The last 10 minutes of class will be spent sharing the article and literary techniques that were found.
