SUGGESTIONS FOR ANSWERING CERTAIN DACA APPLICATION QUESTIONS1 FOR RENEWAL APPLICANTS Make sure you use the right edition of the DACA application! The only edition USCIS accepts says 06/04/14 in the bottom left hand corner. You can download it for free on the USCIS website. IMPORTANT: We recommend that you obtain a copy of your first DACA application before applying for renewal. This will help ensure you provide consistent information. FORM I-‐821D Part 1. Information About You, “I am requesting:” If you are applying to renew before your DACA expiration date, mark the box “Renewal Request,” and indicate your DACA expiration date. TIP: USCIS encourages DACA recipients to apply for renewal 120 to 150 days before their DACA expiration date, and to apply as early as possible in their renewal window, so that they do not lose DACA or work authorization while they wait for the processing of their renewal application. If it has been more than one year since your DACA expired, you will have to apply as an initial applicant. Most people received DACA from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Yet, some people received DACA from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). If you were granted DACA by ICE, you will need to complete Form I-‐821D as if you were applying for DACA for the first time. This means that you have to answer all of the questions in Form I-‐821D and provide supporting evidence for all of the initial DACA eligibility guidelines. Nevertheless, you should mark the box “Renewal Request” and indicate your DACA expiration date. Part 1. Full Legal Name, Question 3.a. Family Name Write your name exactly as it appears on your birth certificate unless you legally changed your name. If you have a hyphenated last name, write both last names in the space for 3.a. If you only use a single last name even though your legal name is hyphenated, you should write that in the “Other Names Used” question (Q.14.a.-‐14.c.). The name should match what is on your most recent DACA application unless you have legally changed your name since or there was an error in your most recent application. 1
