ONE SEMESTER ELECTIVES ART 7/8* This course includes lessons in drawing, painting, ceramics and printmaking. We will complete projects using color, perspective, realistic drawing, animal and human forms. Graphite and colored pencils will be used to develop techniques of contour, shading, and perspective. We will also paint still-life, landscape and portraits using watercolor, acrylic and tempera paints. Basic techniques of ceramics with an emphasis on hand-building, decorative, and glazing techniques will also be introduced. CULINARY ARTS* Culinary Arts is a one Semester course offering students an opportunity to take a class in cooking and nutrition. The entire semester will focus on cooking of foods for fun and nutrition, including topics of interest and importance for skills in food preparation. DRAMA Do you dream of seeing your name in lights? Are you looking for an action-packed elective that lets you interact with your classmates while gaining valuable experience speaking in front of audiences? Then Drama is right for you! Students will screen and critique dramatic performances, explore various acting techniques, learn about theater, and perform in front of their peers in this fun class! ADVANCED DRAMA This is an advanced class where you take everything you learn in our intro to drama class and use it to perform in front of live audiences! We'll produce our own short dramas for audiences right here at our school and throughout the district as well. *Completion of one semester of Drama, prior participation in advisory Drama Club, or audition is required for this class. HISTORY OF ANIMATED FILM Explore the incredible world of animation and learn about how these movies began, how technology developed over time, and how different types of films and genres spun off through the years. Watch movies throughout the class, enjoy great discussions about the films, and explore all animation has to offer! TECHNOLOGY AND INDUSTRY (formerly Media Arts)* Explore your creative side with an introduction to the technology used in design. Technology and Industry is a project based class covering elements of graphic design, digital imaging, and 3D modeling. Learn about composition, layout, photography, editing, and computer aided design. Projects include making amazing presentations, posters, editing photos, and digital printing. FILM STUDIES Learn how to get the most out of movies by watching some of the best films ever made from the start of silent movies to more recent fantasy movies like The Lord of the Rings. Discover how movies are made and how directors use technology to create stories. We'll watch a variety of different kinds of films, including comedy, adventure, drama, animation, and sports.

Instruction on woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments will give students a chance to learn music in a fun environment. You will have opportunities to perform at concerts and be a part of Dana’s award winning music program. BAND 3* Award-Winning Music! Band 3 is for advanced musicians who desire to perform in concerts, parades, and assemblies. You will gain a deeper understanding of all aspects of music. Extra time commitments are required. Enrollment is by approval of the music director and/or audition. ORCHESTRA 2* Orchestra is the place to be! All are welcome to enroll. No music experience is necessary. Instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass will give students a chance to learn music in a fun environment. You will have opportunities to perform at concerts and be a part of Dana’s award winning music program. ORCHESTRA 3* The Best of the Best! Orchestra 3 is for advanced string players who desire to perform in concerts, festivals, and assemblies. You will gain a deeper understanding of all aspects of music. Extra time commitments are required. Enrollment is by approval of the music director and/or audition. GUITAR* Future Guitar Students! You will have an opportunity to be challenged as you learn music with the guitar by playing a variety of styles such as classical, rock, and others. Be prepared to create music by singing, improvising, and composing. Acoustic guitars will be used and provided if necessary. No experience is necessary. *These classes may include a materials contribution
