of the responsibilities defined for members of the town  boardOne in my locale is that of weed commissioner. It is his job to  ensure that the local ordinances on noxious weeds are enforced.  This almost always means that he has to respond to a complaint  from some neighbor about another resident's unkempt property.  The weed commissioner doesn't really drive around looking for weeds to be exterminated. And he can't enforce any code on his  own. All he can do is encourage a property owner to cut down  any weeds or risk having it done for them with the cost added to  next year's property tax bill.   weed commissioner probably wouldn't have been much  help toAthe landowner in today's parable. After all, the weeds  were growing among the wheat, and tearing out the weeds would  have risked uprooting the crops. The consequences at that  moment would have been too catastrophic to imagine for the  farmer. Instead, he was willing to wait until harvest time when he would harvest the grain and burn the weeds. His patience would  be rewarded with a decent crop, and he would not risk losing it  all.   God is infinitely patient. Like the landowner, God is willing   to wait things out, letting a person's life take its course. The  consequences come at the end. Like the property owner who  discovers that his tax bill at the end of the year now contains an  assessment for weed removal, so too do those who spend their  lives living like weeds. In the end, the bill will come due. But one  important message of the parable is that God is willing to give a person time. Good and bad grow together. And God gives the  sinner an opportunity to change, to seek conversion. Not  everyone chooses that path. But the promise of salvation is held  out for all. And thank God for that!    ©2011 Liturgical Publications Inc.   STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE   Parish Financial Support July 12-13, 2014   Envelopes & Loose checks (263) $8,237       Loose Cash 933       E-Giving (34) 1,155       Total $10,325       As we continue our journey, we share our time, talents, and   treasures with our family, friends, and our Parish Community.   As always, we place our trust in God.     SACRAMENTS   Reconciliation:   S aturdays   at  3:00-‐3:30pm  or  call  Fr.  Clark  at  877-‐

JULY 20, 2014

Readings for: July 20, 2014     First Reading:   Wisdom 12:13, 16-19     Second Reading:   Romans 8:26-27     Gospel Reading:   Matthew 13:24-43   “The kingdom of heaven is like...” Jesus continues with his   parables and uses three comparisons to explain the mystery of   God’s Presence and reign: discernment, full growth, and   transformation. The way we live reveals how we respond to God’s ‘mastery’ – his love – how we allow him to be present to   us and nurture our lives, changing (transforming) us into more   perfect images of his divine Presence. Our God is a loving God,   full of mercy and forgiveness. Living with him in our hearts and   through our deeds assures us of eternal Life with him after our earthly death.     Adults: How do you discern God’s will for your life? Do you   have help in responding to your discernment? How do you feel   full growth in yourself through God?   Youth: Do you believe that God is kind and patient? When do   you need God to be kind to you and patient with you?

THANK YOU Thank you to everyone who submitted a survey last weekend regarding a change in Mass times to make room for our Faith Formation program. If you were not here last weekend, please fill out a survey and hand it to an usher. The surveys are on the table by each door and in the gathering area.

This collection will be next weekend, July 26/27

The results of the survey give us a better idea of how to schedule the Faith Formation classes for the coming school year. No decision has been made at this point, but we certainly appreciate the input. In addition to the comments submitted about the Mass times and the Faith Formation program, there were a number of comments about other areas of our parish. This bulletin and future bulletins will address some of those comments – keep an eye out!
