Jen Korte, the Director of Educational Options, met with our 7th and 8th grade students to begin orientation for the online Spanish course. Students meet two days per week during their study hall and at this time are introduced to the culture, language and dialect, and will work with many Web 2.0 tools, including Wikis, Collaborate, school e-mail, and Google Apps. If the course is completed and passed (both years), students will receive a high school foreign language credit for Spanish Exploration and at that time be ready to move into the Spanish I course in high school if desired. Junior high students completed first round MAP assessments in reading and mathematics the past two weeks. These computer adaptive achievement tests adjust the difficulty of the questions so that each student takes a unique test. MAP assessments help teachers identify the instructional level of the student and also provide context for determining where each student is performing in relation to local or state standards and national norms.
