Course Content: The main focus will be on the Common Core Standards for 6th grade. Topics: prime numbers; variables and patterns; four operations on fractions and decimals; ratio and rates; order of operations; factors and multiples; perimeter and area; mean, median, mode and range; four quadrant graphs; integers; absolute value; and converting fractions to decimals to percents. Classroom Behavior: 1) You must be in your seat by the bell. 2) Bring all your materials to class. {math spiral, math book, pencils, red pen, graph paper, planner} 3) When the instructor or someone else is talking, do not interrupt. 4) You must stay in your seat unless the teacher has given you permission to do otherwise. 5) Be respectful and follow directions. 6) Stay on task during work time. Consequences: (An in-class verbal warning will be given which may lead to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th offense.) 1st offense – student/teacher conference. 2nd offense – a penalty as determined by the teacher. 3rd offense – email or phone call home. 4th offense – an office referral. Chronic misbehavior will also result in office referrals. Assignments: 1) 4 points per assignment. If the assignment is complete, points are given as shown below: 90% - 100% = 4 Advanced Knowledge 80% - 89% = 3 Proficient 70% - 79% = 2 Basic Understanding 60% - 69% = 1 Approaching Basic Understanding Below 60% = 0.5 Below Basic Understanding 2) If a student is absent, work must be made up prior to the upcoming quiz or test. 3) Assignments will be graded according to neatness, completion, and accuracy. Points WON’T be deducted for late work. Points will be increased for re-do assignments if a student chooses to fix mistakes and re-grade the assignment. Grading: Scale: Homework 30% of grade A 90 – 100% Quizzes & Tests 70% of grade B 80 – 89% C 70 – 79% D 60 – 69% F 0 – 59% ***Homework and Quizzes may be redone in a reasonable time. Added practice must be done before quiz re-take. In order to re-take a test, the student must have all assignments turned in from that unit with a score of a 2 or more. This ensures students have practiced and prepared prior to demonstrating their proficiency. ***Grading is cumulative and will be ongoing throughout the semester.
