Spring 2018 Training
Dear Third Class Deck & Engine Cadets, Welcome back! Just a few administrative reminders about Spring 2018: UPDATE! Our office is now called Mariner Credentialing and we are located in the Harrington Building, 2nd Floor next to Admiral’s Hall. Please look at the updated Mariner Credentialing website. Start at: https://www.maritime.edu > click on Academics > click on Mariner Credentialing. Refer the Licensing Process page and the checklists linked there. 1. Lifeboatman Certification - Should be completed by the Spring of Sophomore year. If you have not completed all three quals and the (2) exams administered by CAPT Mayhofer in LB-0201, you should register for quals (LB-0201), and sign up for a time slot with CAPT Mayhofer. 2. The STCW Lifeboatman Exam – LB-0202 - (70 multiple-choice question USCG Exam) will be Thursday, 24 May at 1600 in Admiral’s Hall for last name A – L and Thursday, 31 May for last name M – Z. All 3C MENG & MTRA, and any 2C, 1C not taken or not passed & planning to commercial ship or graduate. You must register in WebAdvisor for LB-0202. If you have taken the exam once and not passed, then you can retake the exam now. 3. 3C Meeting – 3C Deck & Engine Cadet MMCs - (Merchant Mariner Credential) If you did not apply for a Cadet MMC and anticipate shipping this summer, or are a spring admit, transfer, or bump up, you should attend the Merchant Mariner’s Credential meeting on Tuesday, 27 March @ 1600 or Thursday, 29 March @ 0700 in Admiral’s Hall. Your complete MMC application packet is DUE at the meeting. 4. VPDSD Training – Vessel Security for Persons with Designated Security Duties: This is a 10-hour course requirement to apply for your MMC, as well as for commercial shipping, and graduation. You must register in WebAdvisor for one set of dates: Fri./Sat., 23/24 March, or Fri./Sat., 6/7 April. Two sections will be offered on both training dates and either section yields a VPDSD certificate. Space is limited. 5. Maintenance is a graduation requirement. Every MENG & MTRA student, including bump-ups, must complete 7 semesters prior to graduation. If you have any questions regarding maintenance hours, see Ms. Nancy McGinn. Her office is on the quarter deck, TS Kennedy, or you may reach her through email at
[email protected]. 6. Communication: There are several sources of media available for you to know what is happening such as MMA email, Plan of the Week, television monitors located in various buildings with academic and
our STCW/Licensing information. The Mariner Credentialing website @ www.maritime.edu; Academics > Mariner Credentialing where you will find necessary credentialing forms and information for each semester. If you have any questions, please see me in the Harrington Building, 2nd Flr., or call 508-830-5071, or email
[email protected].
I cannot over-emphasize the need for you to meet all deadlines, for you to turn in complete and accurate paperwork, and to read and comply with all requests originating from the Mariner Credentialing office. The fastest way for me to reach you is phone/voicemail. You must have a phone number with your name on the voicemail, and check it daily.
