Mission The Detroit REVIVAL Project brings together local artists to collaborate in a shared performance space, building a stronger arts community in Detroit. This project gives artists an opportunity to perform in the city of Detroit while networking with one another, with a focus on musicians, composers, and dancers. General Information The ConTempus musicians and ARTLAB J dancers are seeking submissions of short works by young Michigan-‐based composers. These works should be somehow inspired by various landmarks, scenes, and stories of Detroit, Michigan. The final selections will be read and performed publicly and recorded live by ConTempus musicians in collaboration with dance companies from Detroit. Following the performance, audiences will be invited to attend a Question & Answer session and reception to meet the performers and composers. Award · Each winner will: o work directly with musicians and dancers in rehearsals o be featured in the project promotion o be recognized at the public performance of the composition o receive a live recording of the composition Eligibility · One of the following: o A current student or recent graduate of a college or university degree program located in Michigan o A current or former resident of Michigan · All winners must be available for rehearsals, performance, and any promotional events as needed. Call for Scores · Applications due by Midnight (EST), Friday, December 18th, 2015. · All applications must be submitted via email. · Entry fee also must be received by the due date. · Winners will be announced by February 1, 2016.
Guideline for Compositions 1. The composition can be scored for any combination of the following instruments (contact us with requests/inquiries for alternative instrumentation): a. Strings: Violin(s), Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Acoustic Guitar b. Woodwinds: Flute (piccolo/bass/alto also available), Clarinet (B-‐flat/A/C/bass, Saxophone (alto/tenor) c. Percussion: Small hand percussion 2. Total length should not exceed 10 minutes. Excerpts or movements from longer works will be considered. 3. The composition should reflect some aspect of and/or have a connection to Detroit, including (but not limited to) its signature landmarks, history, people, and diverse culture. 4. Works that are previously unpublished and have not been performed by professional musicians will be given priority consideration. 5. Composers may submit multiple works, but a maximum of one piece per composer will be selected. Materials to Submit 1. Application form 2. Score and parts in pdf. 3.
