Am I qualified and ready to succeed in college level classes? — Smarter Balanced Scores of 3 or 4 on ELA and/or

— Transcript showing 10th 1st semester grades w/2.75

cumulative GPA. — If you are going to take math at Clark, you must be

on track to complete Algebra II this June and you will have to take ALEKS. (Orange Handout)

And then what do I do? — Apply for admission to Clark & pay application fee — Sign up in WHS counseling center for transcript showing 2.75 ¢

Transcript must include 1st Semester Final Grades

— GPA OR Smarter Balanced scores of 3 or 4 in ELA/Math.

— Attend WHS Qualification Pride Time meeting in April — Complete RS Contract and then… — Parent & student meet with your WHS counselor

AP vs Running Start — Environment — Ways to earn college credit at WHS — In-state/out-of-state/private institutions — How colleges determine credit

Running Start Credits — All students must be full-time students, earning a

minimum of 6 WHS credits or 11 Clark credits per quarter. — How Clark credits covert to WHS credits

Credit Maximum Chart — The maximum amount of Running Start credits

covered by program is based on enrollment at WHS.

Who’s Responsible The Student: — Meets WHS & Clark requirements ¡

Know what credits you need to fulfill for graduation.

— Checks WHS website regularly — Reads emails sent by Clark and WHS — Seeks help from instructors, Clark advisors, and WHS

counselor — Pays for books, transportation and any fees/tuition (if applicable) BEFORE deadline. $6.25 per credit. — Prints and completes “Enrollment Verification Form” before coming to see WHS counselor EACH term. ¡

Makes appointment and plans ahead!

Who’s Responsible? The High School — Provides Running Start handbook & course equivalency sheet — Explains requirements for WHS graduation and university entrance — Signs “Enrollment Verification Form” for student EACH term The College — Provides Clark College advising/registration/AA degree assistance — Sends grades to high school each term

Parents Should Know — You do not have access to student records — Clark is a college and is an adult environment — No special allowances are made because of the

student’s age

— Instructors are not required to monitor attendance — You should not contact faculty or Running Start

staff on behalf of your student

Why do students fail? — Attendance & freedom — Sometimes a course grade is based on only a few

assignments

— Online courses — Some courses are very fast paced — Lack of reminders from instructors — Expectations vary from class-to-class
