From the Principal Dear Parents and Guardians, Wow, it’s March! I hope you have been enjoying this great weather. We have been very busy at IPS and our students did a great job transitioning back from spring break. We are excited about our Kindergarten Roundup this week. The decision to have it a month earlier will be helpful for us as we begin the planning process for next year. The next eleven weeks are going to be very eventful and fast. Some of our students will have the opportunities to explore and learn while on their field trips. All students will be able to enjoy the upcoming Zoomobile, sponsored by our PTO. I also want to take a little time to say thank you for all the support we get from you. Educating your children is something we take pride in, and this community is a great example of the pride taken to help our students be prepared for life. Our Spring Carnival this past weekend was a great example of support, care, and commitment. As a principal it is so rewarding to see families connect and our students having fun and being proud of their school. Take Care,

Boosterthon Glow Run Update The Glow Run was a huge success! We enjoyed the character education and positive approach that the Boosterthon team brought to IPS. It was nice having the combined effort with Isanti Intermediate and School For All Seasons working together, raising funds in a way that didn’t involve selling merchandise. Over 99% of pledges were on-line which was a great way of accounting for the funds. IPS alone was able to raise $6,683.09 in those two weeks…greatly needed funds that will help pay for Chromebooks for our students. It was awesome seeing the students show pride in wearing their shirts and seeing how many laps they completed.

Conference Update Wow…95% of all students had parents attend our conferences. Conference time is so important for us as educators and parents in order to connect and discuss each child and how they are doing. Thank you for making this a priority and helping our February conferences be a huge success. I also hope you enjoyed the Art Walk that Mrs. Magaard had displayed in the hallways. It was a great representation of the pride our students take in their art work.

Literacy Update Each month I have been talking about ways to help promote the love of reading. AR is a great tool to support reading at home with children. I read a recent magazine article and over 2000 educators from over 91 countries took a survey. Here are some of the findings.  87% of educators rank early literacy as the most important topic  56% label it as “extremely important” As all of you know we just finished our “I Love to Read Month” this was a wonderful event to promote reading and students were able to earn great prizes. Parents, thank you for promoting reading and helping track the minutes being read at home. This is such an important partnership and is critical to help our student advance as readers and find the importance of reading. If you can block out time in the evening for reading, you are helping your child get more exposure to literacy and words. This effort is critical for your child’s future of promoting them to be a life-long learner.

I Love to Read Results The month of February was "I Love to Read" month and the competition was on! Attendance Line Remember, if your child will be absent or late you may call our 24-hour attendance line. Please call that line early in the morning of your child’s absence. We do check that line each morning. The number is: 763-691-8770. For an attendance to be considered “excused” we must have a call or a note to the office explaining the absence. Thanks!

Yearbooks!!! Good News! The Early Bird Pricing for yearbook orders has been extended to this Thursday, March 29th. If you haven’t ordered yours yet, now is your chance to purchase a yearbook for $12. After Thursday, yearbooks will be $15 each. FAMILY DEAL – 2 for $20 (must be siblings at IPS) Extra order forms are available in the main office. If you would like one sent home with your child, give us a call and we’ll be happy to do so.

Challenging Behaviors Seminar This seminar is being held at the CIHS PAC on April 23 and is geared towards parents of children 8 and under, is free to attend, and free childcare is being provided by Early Childhood (at CIS) for children 8 and under. Click here to get to the Early Childhood website for more information. Severe Weather Update As many of you know, severe weather arrived in Minnesota much earlier than normal. We want to prepare our staff and students for the various elements. Therefore, we will be practicing a Severe Weather Drill in April to help prepare everyone.
