Schedules

Looking to see what campers will be doing from day to day? Your daily camp schedule will be available a week before the start of each camp. Schedules may vary or change based on inclement weather or field trips.

Camp Goals

Our goal is to provide a safe, wholesome, Christian environment for campers to gain experiences that help them learn, grow, and thrive. We strive to help each camper develop core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.

Our Staff

The YMCA of the Chesapeake interviews and selects the most qualified and experienced men and women in the community. Our staff members are selected based on their maturity, skills, patience, enthusiasm, and desire to be good role models for children. Each staff attends training that concentrates on safety, group dynamics, and character development.

Safety

In all activities, safety and approved instructional methods are paramount. Activities are closely supervised and adhere to program standards from the YMCA of the USA and the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Camper safety continues to be our number one priority.

Bullying Policy at the YMCA of the Chesapeake

At the YMCA of the Chesapeake, bullying is inexcusable, and we have a firm policy against all types of bullying. In order to be considered bullying, the behavior must be aggressive and include: •A n Imbalance of Power: Kids who bully use their power – such as physical strength, access to embarrassing information, or popularity – to control or harm others. Power imbalances can change over time and in different situations, even if they involve the same people. •R epetition: Bullying behaviors happen more than once or have the potential to happen more than once. Bullying includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose. Our Camp philosophy is based on our desire to ensure that every camper has the opportunity to build skills, confidence, and character at camp – as well as a lifetime of memories. We work together as a team to ensure that camp is where the magic happens – when caring staff and exuberant youth spend a week, a month or a summer together. See the parent packet for more information on our anti-bullying policy.

Camps with Character!

Help people in need. Be compassionate. Honesty Don’t cheat, steal, or deceive. Keep your promises. Be reliable. Have the courage to do the right thing. Be loyal to family, friends, and country. Respect Live by the Golden Rule. Value the abilities and characteristics of others. Use good manners. Be considerate of the feelings of others. Be courteous and polite. Responsibility Finish what you start. Always do your best. Exercise selfcontrol. Be accountable for your choices. Faith Think about the values and principles by which you want to live.

LEADER IN TRAINING ages 14-15

Most 14-15 year olds are not too interested in camp as we know, and this is anything but your typical “camp.” For those teens who are looking to work with children, enjoy being active, or need to earn service hours, this experience is for you. This program gives teens an incredible opportunity to gain valuable job experience while shadowing camp counselors throughout the summer. This experience will develop your leadership skills, test your creativity, and allow you to network, with what may be your potential coworkers in future years. Teens must commit to serving at least 2 consecutive weeks as an LIT in order to participate. All interested parties must contact Program Director, Janelle Dawson and complete an interview prior to registration. LIT’s are not considered staff and will not be responsible for the care of other campers. We do however see this as the best possible job interview for future summers. Camper Limit:12 $300 Member/$350 Program Participant (2 weeks) Session Weeks: 1&2, 4&5, 6&7, 8&9, 10&11
