JESUS: THE GREAT I AM (John 8:56-59) Introduction: Matthew 16:13-18 Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He began asking His disciples, saying, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” And Simon Peter answered and said, ”Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it.” “Who do you say I am?” How would you answer?
Who did Jesus say He is? The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke—present a synthesis of the whole story of Jesus’ ministry on earth) The Supplemental Gospel (John)—present highlights certain aspects of the life of Christ) John 20:30-31 “Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.”
