SHARED READING (GRADES K-2) January 13 & 14, 2017 │ 1 or 2 Graduate Credits Available through Concordia University Shared Reading is a balanced literacy staple in primary classrooms. This workshop is designed for primary teachers who use shared reading daily or are using Columbia’s new reading units of study, but want to develop more lessons. On Friday night participants will dig into the five day plan for shared reading that Columbia recommends with the instructor. You will break down each day’s expectations, watch videos and see modeling of how the different days look. A five day reading template will be provided for every participant to help create dynamic lessons. Saturday participants will have the day to work with the instructor and, with support, write more five day plans. Each participant will share the plans they write on a google document so all will have access to the many plans developed over this productive day. What an excellent resource this will be to bring back to your own classroom and school. Each participant will need to bring a laptop and leveled texts to write plans, books will not be provided. You will receive an e-mail detailing what levels you might want to bring a few weeks before the class. Facilitator Kim Dabney is a reading specialist for Oconomowoc Schools who also consults and provides staff development in reading and writing instruction. She has taught for over twenty-three years in Wisconsin, Ohio and
Minnesota. Committed to professional development, Kim regularly attends conferences and seminars at the Teacher’s College in New York and locally to keep current on the latest trends in literacy. Kim holds a masters degree and recently finished her administrative license. She finds great satisfaction working with district literacy leaders, teachers and reading specialists to move district initiatives forward. WEI 262.370.5451 │ www.wei.solutions │
