Redwood School 28 June 2017 Pānui Five - Term Two

Redwood Avenue, Tawa, Wellington 5028 Ph: 232 7704 www.redwood.school.nz General email: offi[email protected] Finance email: [email protected] Current roll: 391 students

Tenā koutou Parents and Caregivers Pūkeko, you are fantastic. Thanks to the wonderful performers who are looking and sounding so good on stage. Thanks to all the parents who supported especially by making costumes. Big special thanks to the staff of the syndicate who wrote, organised, set designed, decorated and listen to songs and lines over, and over, and over again. The show is a real credit to you all. Redwood School is a busy place with 391 students. There are a range of behaviours and issues we deal with on a daily basis. We always work hard to manage the needs of all students in our school in a professional and balanced way. Concern for all students and their well being is at the centre of everything we do at Redwood School. We believe we have strong structures and systems in place. I would like to thank the school community for their support for our management style for all learners. If you have specific concerns you would like to discuss relating to your child, I am always available. On Friday we will have some Matariki celebrations here at school. Matariki is a time for gathering and working together, for celebrating our successes and having fun. Buddy classes will work together on activities, there will be a collaborative act activity in the office and lunchtime library activities. A good time for everyone to have some fun. Term Two often brings winter ills. Please ensure children have appropriate clothing for school and that when sick children stay home until well, to ensure that the spread of germs is kept to a minimum. The last day of term will be our 100 days at school celebrations. We have House group activities for most of the morning. A notice was sent to all families on 7 June with all the details which includes families bringing their 100 collections, the planting of 100 trees, sausages available for lunch (thanks PFG) and a reminder that we are asking families to donate bathroom items for donating to the food bank. A reminder that as a school we are part of a community. We are neighbours to many. It is through the behaviour of whanau that we stay as respected members of the community. Please take care of where you park around the school, this includes St Edmunds Crescent where many parents wisely park and walk to collect children. Remember that yellow lines and driveways are illegal to park on or over. Please do be considerate. Sue Goodin

Principal

Samba Futsal Academy: www.sambafutsal.co.nz Futsal is a fast and very enjoyable indoor game. The sport emphasises individual ball skills, control and technique, which is why it is becoming a popular game in which young players can develop their skills all of the year around. It is not surprising that the top soccer countries in the world for example, Brazil, Argentina and Spain, are also World & European Futsal Champions!
The Academy delivers futsal training, primarily concentrating on the development of a player's ball control (receiving, passing, shooting) and then teaching the older age group players some basic futsal movements/ tactics. Futsal is very much about accuracy, speed of movement and an awareness of players around you (both your own and the opposition!) No matter if our players, both young men and women, are new to the sport or are already accomplished soccer/futsal players - the aim is to improve individual confidence and playing ability so that they can gain more enjoyment from their sport.
We do not run leagues, however the Academy does have teams who are entered into the Under 13 and Under 11 league conducted by Capital Futsal, at the ASB Stadium in Kilbirnie. A typical training session will commence with a short warm-up and then go into individual ball control exercises. This is then followed by passing and shooting drills within groups and finally there is a short 15-20 minute game, before the session closes. During each session we like to raise player awareness of various futsal laws of the game. The two guiding principles of the Academy are player safety and their enjoyment. If players are not enthused by their training it is unlikely they will improve. We actively encourage feed-back from players and their supporters.

The Activity Fee can be paid either in full or on a term by term basis. Our bank account for internet payment is ASB bank 12-3140-0316668-01. Please add a reference to what the payment is for and a child’s name and room number. A reminder that the school policy around cellphones brought to school by students is very simple. The phone should remain in the student’s bag during school hours and not be used. If phones are used then a staff member will hold them for the day and may ask parents to collect them. A reminder that it is not our practise here at school for families to bring food for students on the occasion of a birthday. It is generous, but we have many students who have allergies or are sugar free. We also encourage students to only be drinking water here at school.

Our Holiday Programmes focus on giving children aged between 5 and 13 the opportunity to do things they enjoy in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment. Kelly Club programmes are packed with variety to entertain and inspire children. Each Holiday Programme is full of exciting activities and trips that will guarantee your children have a great time! Kelly Club Redwood operates from the Redwood School Hall. Programmme running from 10 July till 21 July. For more information and to book online, please visit www.kellyclub.co.nz or phone Victoria on 021 572 919.

Welcome to Redwood School:
