4 May 2017 Pānui One - Term Two

Current roll: 379 students

Tenā koutou Parents and Caregivers Welcome back for the second term. A very big thanks to staff for the long hours spent over the holidays in professional development and the time spent setting up classrooms for the new term, I’m sure you all agree that the rooms look great. School photos will be held next week for all rooms except R9 and 10, which will be done later in the year once the rooms are full. We are celebrating Shave for a Cure tomorrow with Hamish and friends shaving their hair and the rest of the school is invited to wear Crazy Hats or Crazy Hair - the gold coin donation will go to the Shave for a Cure charity. Shirts and other Redwood clothing (hockey/ netball/ sports tops and jackets) seem to be missing from our stores. If you have any clothing at home that should be at school, can they please be returned to the office - no questions asked. At present we do not have enough gear to outfit our winter sports teams or the upcoming inter school cross country team. Many thanks in advance. Do you have a child at Redwood School? Is their sibling going to turn five this year? If you live ‘out of zone’ please be make sure you submit an Application for Enrolment into our next ballot which closes 9am Friday 16 June 2017.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call us. Term Two often brings winter ills, please ensure children have appropriate clothing for school and that when sick children stay home until well to ensure that the spread of germs is kept to a minimum. Sue Goodin Principal [email protected]

Upcoming events: 5 May - Crazy Hat/ Hair Day (Shave for a Cure fundraiser - gold coin donation) 8 - 11 May - School Photos taken 16 May - whole school Cross Country 17 May - Young Leaders Day 22 - 26 May - Book Week (more details soon) 25 May - Tough Girl/ Guy Challenge 30 May - Tawa Zone Cross Country 2 June - Teacher Only Day - school closed 5 June - Queen’s Birthday 6 June - Strike performance 7 July - 100 Days of School celebrations - Term Two finishes. 24 July - Term Three begins

Check out the PFG site via the link here or on the school website. http://www.redwoodschoolevents.co.nz/ Entertainment Books are available for purchase. Roti notices went home this week.

Join in the fun! Get your mates together and lace up your sneakers for Wellington Marathon Fundraise for the Heart Foundation while you exercise!

th June 201

Heart disease is New Zealand’s biggest killer and we need your help to stop it

Come and join us in the hall for our Before School Care (7.00am-8.30am), After School Care (3.00pm-6.00pm) & School Holiday Programmes. We offer exciting sessions focused around sports, cooking, art and craft activities, as well as structured ‘free-time’. Our programmes are Ministry of Social Development approved, with Work & Income subsidies available. For more information or to book, please visit our website www.kellyclub.co.nz or contact Victoria on 021 572 919 or [email protected].

The Activity Fee can be paid either in full or on a term by term basis. Our bank account for internet payment is ASB bank 12-3140-0316668-01. Please add a reference to what the payment Sign up as a Heart Racer at www.)FBSU3BDFS.org.nz is for and a child’s name and room number. A reminder that the school policy around cellphones brought to school by students is very simple. The phone should remain in the student’s bag during school hours and not be used. If phones are used then a staff member will hold them for the day and may ask parents to collect them. A reminder that it is not our practise here at school for families to bring food for students on the occasion of a birthday. It is generous, but we have many students who have allergies or are sugar free. We also encourage students to only be drinking water here at school. All Heart Racers get a free dry fit sport top and the chance to win cool prizes
