Tenā koutou Parents and Caregivers Sadly we said goodbye to Celeste Hawkins from our staff last Friday. She has been with us as an official part of the staff for around 4 years and her hard work and smiling face will be missed as she completes her retraining as a primary school teacher. We wish her good luck and every success in the future. Parking is a major issue around the school at the moment. It is important that all the legal road rules are used on the streets around the school. You can not park on yellow lines, a bus stop is not for parking during the times on the sign, you should not be parking in the Redwood Park carpark outside of the allocated spaces, using a cellphone while driving is illegal, parking is not permitted across driveways and within 1m of a driveway, please take care when driving through the crossing - if the road patrol signs are out please stop. The Board of Trustees and staff understand that at times it is difficult to get a park close to school but parking illegally, or in a manner which annoys our neighbours is not the right thing to do. We want to keep all our students safe, ignoring laws is not the way to do this. Please do the right thing to keep everybody safe. Thanks to everyone who has made a booking for a Student Led Conference and either attended yesterday or today. This is a good way of showing students leading their own learning and acknowledging the help you can give at home. Many thanks to the staff for the hard work they put in to writing the learning goal reports and the long days spent here at school during the Conferences. Redwood School uses some restorative practices, mainly with the W.A.R.M conversations we have with students. At the heart of having these conversation is the students willingness to participate in the process and to be honest. We are working with students to understand that being honest is the best approach, that there may be discomfort in admitting you have done something wrong but that it is better to own up to a mistake than to lie or not quite tell the whole truth. This is the Term One last newsletter as this busy term comes to an end next Thursday - school will finish at 3pm. Thanks for all the support you and your families have shown the school, I hope you have a restful break.

Upcoming events: 6 April - Student Led Conferences (school closes at 2:30pm) 7 April - Girls Cricket team playing at the Basin Reserve from 1:30pm 14 April - Term One ends 22 April - Tawa memorial dedication 1 May - Term Two begins 5 May - Crazy Hat/ Hair Day (Shave for a Cure fundraiser - gold coin donation) 8 - 11 May - School Photos taken 16 May - whole school Cross Country 22 - 26 May - Book Week (more details soon) 25 May - Tough Girl/ Guy Challenge 7 July - 100 Days of School celebrations

Thanks The wonderful Tawa Art and Craft Group have very generously donated money to the school from the income they received with the sale of their building. We are very grateful and would like to acknowledge their support of Redwood School.

Check out the PFG site via the link here or on the school website. http://www.redwoodschoolevents.co.nz/ Entertainment Books are available for purchase .

The BYOC Meeting for parents of Year 5 and 6 students was well attended and there was lots of discussion. Thanks to Ginny and Mike for a wonderful lead on this. Year 5 and 6 students are able to bring devices from the beginning of Term Two. If you are intending to have your child bring a device to school please let your child’s teacher know. Parents and students need to have signed the chromebook agreement and the revised digital citizenship agreement prior to bringing their chromebook to school from 1st May. The Activity Fee can be paid either in full or on a term by term basis. Our bank account for internet payment is ASB bank 12-3140-0316668-01. Please add a reference to what the payment is for and a child’s name and room number. A reminder that the school policy around cellphones brought to school by students is very simple. The phone should remain in the student’s bag during school hours and not be used. If phones are used then a staff member will hold them for the day and may ask parents to collect them. A reminder that it is not our practise here at school for families to bring food for students on the occasion of a birthday. It is generous, but we have many students who have allergies or are sugar free. We also encourage students to only be drinking water here at school.
