Thirty-five years ago

on November 9, 1981, Martha Maletz and four other remarkable women leaders signed the Articles of Incorporation of Community Music School. The stated purpose of CMS then, as now, was “to provide the best possible music education to all children, regardless of sex, race, religion, ethnic origin, or the ability to pay.” In its first year of operation, CMS offered 30 students lessons in piano and voice, with dedicated teachers who donated their services to keep tuition low. Half of the students received financial aid to help their families afford lessons. From this modest beginning, CMS quickly became the leading music school in the Lehigh Valley, enrolling over 20,000 students in its 35-year history. Today, CMS has nearly 30 professional music teachers and over 325 enrolled students in five locations. In addition, CMS offers outreach programs to hundreds more students at local public, private, and parochial schools. As a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization, CMS can continue to realize its mission only with charitable gifts from generous donors and friends like you. Your support and attendance at the Spring Brunch help CMS continue to offer high-quality music instruction to all interested students, regardless of their background, age, ability, or financial circumstances. We hope you will join us on April 30 to celebrate 35 years of success in inspiring musicians of all ages, providing opportunities to achieve excellence, and helping students appreciate the transformative power of music!
