Location and eligibility.

SAME LOCATION AS 2016! The camp will be held at the George Dupuis Recreation Center at Brown Park, 1212 E Pont Des Mouton Rd, Lafayette, LA 70507. This is a larger, newer, and more easily accessible facility. The event is open to any adult karate student with at least 3 months of training or any child with at least one year of training experience.

Fees:

Tuition for camp attendance is $100 if you preregister by July 28, 2017 (postmarked) and $120 if you register after or at the door. Dan exam registration is done on site and must be completed before 6:00 pm on Friday August 4, 2017. Testing fees are $80 for first Dan and $100 for second Dan, $120 for third Dan, and $150 for fourth Dan, which are made payable separately. Participants who pass the exams are responsible for registration fees, which also are paid separately, to the JKA/AF (for your information, the current registration fees are $110 for Shodan, and $140 for Nidan, $195 for Sandan, and $245 for Yondan, which must be paid by separate check to the JKAAF headquarters).

Frequently asked questions about the camp How do I register for the camp? You can preregister ($100) by following the directions on page 4 of this packet. If you haven’t pre-registered by the time of the camp, you can fill out a registration form and pay at the door ($120). If you are writing a check, please make it payable to LKC (Lafayette Karate Camp). How do I register for the DAN EXAM? In order to take the DAN exam at the camp there are a few requirements. You must meet the minimum age, experience and Dan grading prerequisites of the JKA . You must have permission of your instructor to take the exam. You must be an active member of a JKAAF club or an individual member of the JKAAF and have a valid and active JKA passport. You must participate in the entire camp and you must register on or before 8:00 pm Friday, August 4, 2017. A copy of the Dan Registration form for this test is attached, which you should fill out ahead of time. Typing the information greatly reduces mistakes in registration. If you need to purchase a passport or pay your annual dues to the JKAAF, the JKAAF will have a representative to validate your membership. The JKA passport is currently $30 and the annual JKA individual membership fee is currently $30. This must be paid by separate payment and if writing a check made payable to JKAAF. This representative will also arbitrate your qualifications to take the Dan exam if any questions arise. Any final decision will be made by the chief examiner of the Dan exam.

The fees for testing are $80 (Shodan) and $100 (Nidan) $120 for third Dan, and $150 for fourth Dan. This must be paid by a separate payment. This is only the testing fee. If you pass the test there is a separate registration fee that must be paid by the JKAAF to the JKA. The results of the Dan exam are usually given after Training #4 (around 11:00 a.m. on 08-06-2017). So, if you pass the exam a representative of the JKAAF will give you or your instructor more written instructions on the exact method and costs to register your Dan ranking after Training #4. How do I register for the KYU EXAM? Anyone attending the camp may take the Kyu Exam on Sunday, 08-06-2017 at 11:15 a.m. with the following requirements: You must meet the minimum age, experience and Kyu grading prerequisites of the JKA ; You must have permission of your instructor to take the exam; You must be an active member of a JKAAF club or an individual member of the JKAAF and have a valid and active JKAAF card or JKA passport. You must register Sunday morning between 11:00 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. to participate in the test. The test fees are $45.00 make payable to LKC. If you need a JKAAF card or passport validation, make arrangements on Friday, 08-04-2017 when you first register to validate those documents. Where do we eat around here?
