Visit our website: www.saggartparish.blogspot.ie Pastoral Area Finance Committee Update (Saggart, Rathcoole, Brittas and Newcastle) The Finance Committee has started to look at the various repairs, renewals and upgrade projects required in the 4 Churches. At this stage, we intend to initially prioritise the following projects: Saggart – development of a wheelchair access ramp and toilet Rathcoole – replacement of the carpet for the altar Brittas – a new sound system Newcastle – painting the interior of the Church including repair of the entry doors How will we fund the projects? We have a limited amount of money available in each of the Parishes that will contribute towards the costs of these initial projects. It is important that each Parish generates the funds (money, materials, time or other supports) for their own project(s). Diocesan Policy provides that new projects may only commence when 90% of the funding is confirmed as in place. With this in mind, it is intended to specific Church Door collections to raise additional funds for the projects in each area and we welcome your support. Suggestion Box We have placed a suggestion box in each of the Churches. Their purpose is two-fold: 1. Suggestions for other projects that you would like to be considered. Each project will be reviewed carefully and prioritized. 2. Suggestions for any input / support that you may be able to provide in order to support the completion of the projects. How to contact us? Directly or, if you prefer, through the Pastoral Area Office (St Mary’s Parish House, Saggart. Phone: 01 4589 209) Fr. John Gilligan (Moderator), David Cleary (Brittas), Ronan McDermott (Rathcoole), Susan Reid and Matt O’Sullivan (Saggart), Jimmy Luddy and Patricia Brennan (Newcastle).

Newcastle Cemetery Mass 11th June 2017 Collection Friends of Newcastle Burial Ground (FONBG) are a group of people who have come together with the common interest of upgrading facilities at Newcastle Burial Ground. For example, the public address system, provided on a voluntary basis for the annual Cemetery Mass, needs to be extended year on year to provide for the increased numbers attending the Mass however, there is no infrastructure available at the cemetery to easily connect extra speakers. Likewise, there is just one water tap at the entrance to provide for the full site. FONBG was formally constituted at the Inaugural General Meeting on 6th February 2017. A voluntary community based association, FONBG is registered with South Dublin County Public Participation Network and membership is open to anyone who supports the aims of the group. A consultation process is currently in progress with South Dublin County Council. The 2017 Cemetery Mass Collection will be used to further the aims of FONBG, and will include a contribution to both Holy Family Rathcoole and St Finian’s Churches. Volunteers invited to sign up for the World Meeting of Families in 2018 At least three thousand volunteers are needed to assist with the planning and organising of the ninth World Meeting of Families which Pope Francis asked Archbishop Diarmuid Martin to host in Dublin in 2018. This six-day festival of faith will take place from 21 to 26 August next year with the theme: “The Gospel of the Family: Joy for the World”. As part of its pastoral preparations the organisers of the World Meeting of Families are now inviting thousands of volunteers to participate in this once-in-a-generation event. The volunteers will be part of the operational team which will organise and run what will be the largest gathering of families in the world. Volunteers must be resident in Ireland, over 18 years of age and respectful of the Catholic ethos of the event. Volunteers will also assist at related preparatory events which will take place around the country. In addition to the volunteer recruitment drive, a ‘Host a Pilgrim/Family’ programme has also been launched with the aim of hosting pilgrims in family-homes based in and around Dublin. www.worldmeeting2018.ie/volunteer.
