Team 4 ELEMENT

Information Packet

Team 4 ELEMENT Who Are We? Team 4 ELEMENT is a robotics team out of High Tech LA, a charter high school in Los Angeles, California. We participate in FIRST ® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an international robotics league with competitions and teams in over 88 countries. Our robotics program empowers team members by giving them the opportunity to participate in competitions, and along the way, team members are equipped with skills to be confident, professional, collaborative, and innovative leaders.

Core Values Engineering Leadership Entrepreneurship Mentoring Education Networking Teamwork

Our History Team 4 ELEMENT was started in 2006 at High Tech LA. In our first regional competition, we proudly took home the first place blue banner. We did so again the following year, and for the past 10 years, we’ve strived to maintain the high standards set early on. We’ve accumulated a multitude of awards and accomplishments over the past 10 years, including our most recent acknowledgement as the 2016 Ventura Regional Quarterfinalists, #1 Pit Safety Award, Creativity Award, Industrial Safety Award and Hard Hat Pin Award.

Team 4 Students... ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪

Design, manufacture, program, wire, and compete with their own robot Work alongside and receive mentorship from professional engineers Learn to use professional software and machinery Develop essential skills including communication, project management, programming, engineering, design, teamwork, leadership, and strategic thinking Qualify for over $20 million in scholarships exclusive to FIRST students

Outside of Competition Team 4 students learn engineering fundamentals at an early age and begin applying these skills. This gives them a huge advantage when it comes to college acceptance and getting jobs. Our alumni have attended some of the top universities on scholarships including UCLA, UC Berkeley, Rose-Hulman, WPI, RIT, and Carnegie Mellon. Team 4 alumni have also worked for major engineering corporations including NASA, JPL, PTC, and Boeing.

FIRST Robotics The FIRST Robotics Competition combines the excitement and camaraderie of sports with the rigor and precision of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). In 6 weeks known as Build Season, students design, manufacture, wire, and program their own robot to complete certain tasks in front of thousands at that year’s competitions. This is the closest to real-world engineering a student could possibly get, and involvement in FIRST prepares students for the future.

About Phoenix XI Team 4 is proud to introduce our 2016 Stronghold robot: Phoenix XI. Phoenix XI utilizes a 6wheel, single-speed, West Coast drive base to traverse the playing field. Our elbowed arm makes manipulating the field pieces simple, while still letting us pull off our award winning hang on the tower. This robot incorporates the hard work of 60 students over the course of 6 weeks. Phoenix XI may be profound, but we plan to top it in the 2017 competition.

Sponsorship Our impactful program carries a hefty price tag. As a non-profit, we rely on in-kind and in-cash donations to continue doing the work we do. This investment extends beyond just a simple donation to the team of students; it’s an investment in the future. Team 4 ELEMENT is molding the future leaders of STEM, and by investing in them, you are giving them the opportunity to rise to the best of their abilities and make an impact on the world. We also participate in a variety of community/volunteer events – FIRST students as a whole logged over 10,000,000 hours of service this past year.
