Sign up for the Monster Concert by 10/17! Saturday, October 29 is our annual Monster Concert and Bookfair at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in the Promenade Shops, Center Valley. Get your costume ready and talk to your teacher about performing or plan to stop by and support your student musicians. There will be a costume contest, prizes, and a Musical Instrument Petting Zoo! Recital Entry Forms must be completed and returned to the front office by October 17. Bookfair Fundraiser: Help support CMS by making a purchase at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, October 29 using Bookfair ID #11936127. Shop online at BN.COM/bookfairs from 10/29 - 11/3. Petting Zoo Volunteers Needed

We Welcome a New Board Member

Our musical instrument petting zoo is a highlight of many local events and helps spread the word about CMS and our programs. You do not need to know how to play every instrument. If you have an outgoing personality and a desire to spread the joy of music to the community, we need you!

In September, the CMS Board of Directors elected Julie Macomb as a new board memberfor a 3-year term (2016-19). Julie is an attorney with Norris McLaughlin & Marcus, located in 3City Center. While she is not musical herself, Julie is an arts supporter. Welcome to CMS, Julie!

Strata III coming to 6th & Linden

The Allentown Planning Commission approved City Center Lehigh Valley‘s plans to build a 71-unit luxury apartment building next to Miller Symphony Hall. CMS continues to work with other downtown arts organizations to improve downtown parking availability, both during and after construction. CMS Outreach Programs Grow! CMS is excited to announce that our Modern Band after-school program is expanding in the Allentown School District to include Central Elementary. The CMS Modern Band Program continues at McKinley Elementary. Last year, CMS successfully engaged over 40 students, grades 1-5, and was featured in the Harry C. Trexler Trust 2016 Annual Report (see image). The McKinley Elementary students learned how to sing and play popular music on the ukulele, keyboard, guitar, bass guitar, drum kit, and bucket drums. CMS teacher, Cliff Tracy, said their favorite songs included the classic “We Will Rock You” by Queen, and the current hits “Best Day of Our Lives” by American Authors and “Hey Everybody” by Walk the Moon. The students even wrote and performed their own rap song called “The NBA”. Check out the CMS Modern Band Program in action here!
