Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord And let perpetual light shine upon them. Dublin Diocesan Food Appeal This Weekend Only 6th and 7th December 2014 Dear Parishioners, You will remember that in the weeks before Christmas last year the diocese launched a programme to replenish the stock of the Crosscare Food Banks. These Food Banks give food directly to individuals and families in need through local community food banks and also to over 70 other charities in Dublin who are working with those most in need. As we come towards Christmas, the Crosscare Food Banks have once again been struggling to keep up with demand for food from people, especially families with children, in need around the Archdiocese. In response to this growing need, I am asking parishes to repeat last year’s programme and, at all Masses on the coming weekend, to ask parishioners to bring non-perishable food items to Masses in their local parish Church on the weekend the 6th and 7th of December. Last year’s collection was very generous and meant so much to families in need over the Christmas period and beyond. With prayerful good wishes +Diarmuid Martin Archbishop of Dublin Suggested Items for Donation on 6th/7th December Pasta/rice, fruit juice, tea/coffee, soup, sugar, powered milk, tinned meat/fish, tinned veg/fruit, packaged dessert, biscuits, hygiene products.

‘The Meaning of Marriage Pastoral Letter of the Irish Bishops Conference The Irish Bishops have officially launched the pastoral statement The Meaning of Marriage. The pastoral statement advises the faithful that “to redefine the nature of marriage would be to undermine it as the fundamental building block of our society. The Church seeks with others to reaffirm … that marriage should be reserved for the unique and complementary relationship between a woman and a man from which the generation and upbringing of children is uniquely possible.” Bishops encourage everyone to read The Meaning of Marriage which is currently being distributed to over 1,300 parishes throughout the island. Holy Family Community School Rathcoole Fundraising for Concern Holy Family Community School has launched their traditional annual fundraising for Concern. Each year the School supports the Charity Concern and their appeal which this year focuses on CHAD. The school is proud of their reputation as the best Secondary School for raising the largest amount for Concern. This reputation is owed to the generosity of the students, staff, parents, guardians, families, friends and local businesses. A great deal of thanks goes out to them all. This year the School will hold a Church Gate Collection in aid of their fundraising for Concern at all masses in the Parishes of Rathcoole, Saggart and Newcastle on the weekend of the 6/7th December. We appeal for your generosity as we strive to raise much needed funds in a time when Irish families are themselves experiencing very tough financial times. This year the school is privileged in securing a major international computer corporation to support our Concern fundraising. Mr Mohammed Amin Senior Vice President for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Africa and the Middle East [T.E.E.A.M] of EMC and Finance Director Mr Paul Foley EMC Middle East have agreed to match the amount that we raise. Therefore, whatever we raise this amount will be doubled and Concern will benefit greatly and many more lives can be saved and supported. We would ask that all students, staff and friends of Holy Family get on board and encourage each other to be generous in supporting the church gate collections, as well as the sponsored fast, silence, Avoca Carol Service, cake sales and the other creative activities that will be organised. We thank you in advance for the commitment that you show from year to year and hopefully once again we can together make the whole school community proud of our generosity of spirit in the fundraising that we will endeavour to carry out in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
