Mission of IDP To promote greater understanding and awareness of the values of the Deaf Community as well as the skills, dedication and sensibilities that interpreters with Deaf parents continue to offer to the interpreting profession. Motion “E” ‘Move that the Board of Directors charge the Bylaws Committee, in consultation with the leadership of the IDP Member Section, to develop by law amendments that establish a position on the Board of Directors to represent RID members who were raised by a Deaf parent or Deaf parents, together with appropriate qualifications and duties for this position.” ******************************************************************************************************************
Chair’s Report: National Office: An inquiry from the National Office was received by IDP Treasurer, Amy Williamson, asking for a rationale in providing registration support for IDP Regional Representatives to attend their respective regional conferences. Amy sent a letter in reply by stating that the regional representatives will be conducting IDP business during the regional conferences. Additionally, she included the comment that IDP fundraises for this specific purpose. New Member Sections Handbook: As reported previously, the national office is continuing their work into looking into revising the handbook for member sections. Although, it is not a ‘priority’ at this time, they are asking member sections to participate in this endeavor. Motion ‘E”: The Chair is presently developing the ‘Talking Points’ for Power Point presentations at the IDP Members Section meetings for ‘Motion E during the regional conferences. The Council Chair, along with the Vice‐Chair, will be problem solving some of the anticipated discussions pros/cons that may take place during these meetings. Additionally, in reference to Motion ‘E’, the August issue of the ’VIEWS’ will contain an update for members on the status from the Regional Conference Presentations. ‘E‐Views’ Article’: The IDP Council chair reported sending her submission for the RID, Inc. “e‐Views/Article”. It contained a request of and appreciation for monitory support/contributions for our IDP Member Section while RID members pay their annual dues. She also included an update on the regional conferences. This article was sent directly to the IDP Members Section List forwarded to IDP by the national office.

FCC: Suzanne, our Chair, reported national RID, Inc., GAR, Janet Bailey has sent a four page letter to Marlene Dortich, FCC, giving comments regarding the ‘Structures and Practices of the Video Relay Service Programs. She touched upon the VRS history, interpretation of their model for the CA, ‘‘Transparency’, what VRS constitutes rating a successful call, etc. and has recommended to the FCC all VRS interpreters be NAD‐RID, Inc certified. This letter is presently listed under the ‘Hot Topic’s Column” on the RID, Inc. web site. The council chair posed a question, “Do we as the IDP Council Member Section, wish to take a position on this announcement?” National Conference: In conclusion, Suzanne indicated she is looking forward to the planning for IDP, 2013 RID National Conference August 914, 2013
Secretary’s Report: The www.idp‐rid.org site is being updated. There were several ideas for changes presented to the Council for review and suggestions. A donation and IDP ad for placement in the Program Booklet in support of the CODA International Conference taking place in Florida in August and the NAD event occurring in Kentucky was approved and sent in April. The IDP‐
[email protected] is up and running again for posting. In sending a posting for the IDP Group list, send it to the address listed and it will be approved. Presently there are 465 folks who will receive your posting. If you are on Facebook, add Interpreters with Deaf Parents (RID Member Section) and post questions, comments, etc. There we have 216 members. Regional Conference Reports All the Regional Conferences Committees are now actively planning their events and activities. IDP wishes to be sure our presence is known through our Member Section Meeting. Region V: June 1317, 2012" Ohana: Celebrating Our Ties", Thomas Satterlee, indicated folks are busy with the planning of the conference. He made arrangements with Amy, our IDP Treasurer to mail the IDP Banner to be used during the regional conference. The Community Forum: ‘Quid Pro Quo’ will be held on June 14, Thursday from 5:05‐6:25pm. A discussion of questions to be used was held. A suggestion was using the questions from previous Conference Forums. This forum is being facilitated by Tom and Sean Furman, thus far. They are in touch with Deaf Caucus. The Member Section meeting will also be held on June 14th, from6:35 ‐ 7:35pm. The ‘Talking Points’ for the Motion ‘E’ will be used. The anticipated pros & cons will also be sent to be used along with this main topic of presentation. Region III July 18 – 21, 2012 Wyndham Lisle Chicago Hotel and Executive Center, Lisle, IL Suzanne, our Council Chair, will be available to moderate the IDP Members Section meeting to be held on Wednesday, July 18th. 3:00‐5:00pm. Again, she will use notes from Dennis Cokely’s ‘To Do List’ and other facts to develop ‘Talking Points’ for Motion E, for the Member Section Meetings. Suzanne will be mailing these power point presentations to each Regional Representative.

Our Chair is in touch with Leandra Williams to do a brief overview of Motion ‘E’ at the business meeting as well. She is also in touch with Deaf Caucus in Region III and will follow up with them. Region I July 26-29, 2012 Sheraton Atlantic City, Atlantic City, NJ The IDP Member Section Meeting will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 7:45am ‐ 8:45am. Laurie Nash, our IDP ViceChair will facilitate the topic of Motion “E” for our members. IDP will also have a brief update during the business meeting during the conference. Region II August 25, 2012 Hilton Ft. Lauderdale Marina, Fort Lauderdale, FL The member sections will be gathering on Saturday, August 4th. at 8:00 am ‐ 9:00am and to date, IDP has not yet been able to locate an IDP member willing to moderate this event. This problem is a direct result of the conflict in the scheduling of the Region II Conference at the same time as the CODA International Conference in Florida. Kathleen Austin will make further attempts at locating some one willing to step in for IDP. IDP Region II members may contact Kathleen if they are willing to assist. Region IV August 25, 2012 Sheraton Denver Downtown, Denver, CO Larry Barnett, Region IV, indicated the Texas State Interpreters for the Deaf will be hosting a state conference June 21‐24 and the Members Section IDP is being slotted for Friday, June 22 from 4:30‐5:30pm. He will be the moderator for the presentation on the Motion ‘E’ along with Joshua Evans. The Regional Conference Committee in Denver is scheduling Member Section Forums tentatively for Friday, August 3rd, 4:00‐6:00pm. Larry indicated this date is also in direct conflict with the CODA conference in Florida. Joshua Evans offered his willingness to moderate the IDP Member Section Meeting, along with requesting assistance during this time frame. Miscellaneous Things to do: ¾ Explore T‐shirt Contest for fund raising for the upcoming national conference in Indiana. ¾ Mail Motion E, Talking Points to Regional Representatives who are moderating the IDP Member Section meetings. ¾ Decide if ‘pins’ will be a continued fund raiser.
