Pine Grove School’s mission is to inspire all students to attain their full creative and academic potential by recognizing, valuing and developing each student’s strengths and talents. While we offer a rigorous curriculum based on CA State Standards and work toward the goal of all students reaching grade level proficiency, we also focus on the development of the individual student. Our school guidelines are: • • • •
Show Respect – treat others and their belongings the way you want to be treated Be Safe – keep yourself and others from being hurt Do Your Best – give it your all, make yourself proud Make Responsible Choices – make good choices on your own
DATA and ACCESS Ed-Data Partnership Web Site
Opportunities for Parental Involvement Pine Grove has an active Parent Teacher Organization that meets monthly and, through various fundraising efforts, supports activities that promote student involvement and success such as honoring students by providing Student of the Month parties and bringing in assemblies. PTO parents also sponsor the Pine Grove yearbook, bi-yearly Scholastic Book Fairs, and a Holiday Store. PTO parents also keep the school’s announcement board up to date and assist in supporting Student of the Month assemblies. Parents serve on the School Site Council and are integral toward the development and approval of the legislatively required Single Plan for Student Achievement and School Accountability Report Card. Pine Grove hosts Back to School Night in the fall and a Book Picnic in the spring. These events are scheduled in the evening to assure that most parents are available to participate. The Spring Book Picnic event includes a family BBQ and a book for each student. These events have been very successful in bringing families to Pine Grove. Parents also serve as classroom volunteers, drive for field trips, and are guest speakers in classrooms providing information on a number of subjects aligning to the State Standards.
2010-11 Student Enrollments by Grade Level Total Enrollment = 222 Students

School safety is a high priority and everyone’s responsibility at Pine Grove School. In conjunction with Senate Bill 187, Pine Grove school adheres to the 7 planning steps listed in the “Safe Schools: Planning Guide for Action.” The staff receives ongoing Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) safety training according to their roles and responsibilities as active Crises Response Team Members. The school, including students and staff, regularly participates in safety drill preparedness exercises including monthly fire drills, lockdown, earthquake and evacuation. Other agency involvement and collaboration includes planning with local law enforcement, fire department, medical personnel, social services, and the public health department. Each campus visitor checks into the office and wears a Pine Grove Visitor Badge during their visit. Visitors without a badge are asked to get office clearance. As recommended by the Violence Prevention and Response Task Force, Pine Grove has two crises response boxes that contain vital information including response and recovery phases of incidents in the event that the school needs to evacuate the building. Pine Grove School is adequately prepared with enough supplies to “shelter in place” for a period of up to 72 hours. Each year the staff participates in the “Safe School Questionnaire” and students participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey. The information gleaned from these surveys serves as tools for continuous feedback toward the improvement of school safety. Pine Grove follows Del Norte County Unified School District procedures for Child abuse reporting, suspension/expulsion policies, and procedures for notifying teachers of dangerous pupils, dress code and sexual harassment. The school’s comprehensive safety plan is available for review in the main office upon request.
School Facility Conditions and Planned Improvements (School Year 2011-12) Pine Grove School provides a clean, safe environment for students, staff and volunteers. The custodial team ensures that the facilities are well maintained. The District has a scheduled annual maintenance program as well as a five-year plan for larger maintenance projects. .

California Standards Tests For the 2011 STAR exam, students in grades 2-11 took an English-language arts and mathematics test. Students in Grade 4 and 7 also participated in an essay writing test. Historysocial science tests were given to students in grades 8 and 11, and students in grades 5, 8, and 10 took a science test. Students in grades 9-11 were also able to take end-of-course tests in science and history-social science if they were enrolled in the corresponding courses. Because tests are meant to measure how well students achieve standards rather than how well they do compared to other students, the results are reported as performance levels.

Academic Performance Index Ranks - Three-Year Comparison This table displays the school’s statewide and similar schools API ranks. The statewide API rank ranges from: one to ten. A statewide rank of one means that the school has an API score in the lowest ten percent of all schools in the state, while a statewide rank of ten means that the school has an API score in the highest ten percent of all schools in the state. The similar schools API rank reflects how a school compares to 100 statistically matched “similar schools.” A similar schools rank of one means that the school’s academic performance is comparable to the lowest performing ten schools of the 100 similar schools, while a similar schools rank of ten means that the school’s academic performance is better than at least 90 of the 100 similar schools.
Academic Performance Index Growth by Student Group
“N/A” means a number is not applicable or not available due to missing data. “B” means this is either an LEA or an Alternative Schools Accountability Model (ASAM) school. Schools participating in the ASAM do not currently receive growth, target information, or statewide or similar schools rankings on this report in recognition of their markedly different educational missions and populations served. ASAM schools are covered under the Alternative Accountability system as required by Education Code Section 52052 and not the API accountability system. However, API information is needed to comply with the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law. Growth, target and rank information are not applicable to LEAs.
Adequate Yearly Progress
Adequate Yearly Progress
The federal NCLB Act requires that all schools and districts meet the following Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) criteria: • Participation rate on the state’s standards-based assessments in ELA and mathematics • Percent proficient on the state’s standards-based assessments in ELA and mathematics • API as an additional indicator • Graduation rate (for secondary schools) Detailed information about AYP, including participation rates and percent proficient results by student group, can be found on the CDE Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Web page.
Three-Year Comparison This table displays, by student group, the actual API changes in points added or lost for the past three years, and the most recent API score. Note: "N/A" means that the student group is not numerically significant.
