EATON NEEDS NOON DUTY VOLUNTEERS! Our students need YOU!! Eaton is in need of Noon Duty Supervisors. At present we have only 2 - 3 parents helping out - so you can imagine how difficult it is to supervise over 500 children without additional parental help. If you enjoy being around children and have time available in your schedule from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., one or more days during the week… please consider being a Volunteer or applying for a Paid Staff position as a Noon Yard Duty Supervisor! This job is needed to help our students be safe during the lunchtime recess, while they eat and play from 12:35 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering or in a paid position through CUSD, please enquire about this in the school office, by phone at (408) 255-2848 or by email at

English Language Development (ELD) Time In CUSD, students who are English Language Learners (ELL) receive 30 minutes of targeted English development instruction with students with similar California English Language Development Test (CELDT) levels Monday through Friday. If your child is receiving targeted ELD instruction, this is a valuable resource to learn more about what their CELDT Level means and their academic needs by Grade level.
SAFETY FIRST! At Eaton Elementary School, the safety of our students is our # 1 priority. We understand that you have entrusted us with the care and safety of your children while they are here at school and work really hard to ensure this. However, we cannot do this alone - we need ALL community members to partner with us and help keep the students safe! Please follow the 15 simple rules listed on page 2 to ensure the safety of our students.

More Eaton News In order to make the campus safer, we would like to remind everyone of the following: 1. No student should be on campus before 8:45 a.m. There is no supervision on campus until that time. 2. When students arrive on campus in the morning, they need to wait at the lunch tables. 3. Report any suspicious activity to your child’s teacher, principal, or the front office. 4. Please follow the directions in the signage around campus. 5. No parents are allowed in the hallways during school hours - 8:45 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. except if they are volunteering in a classroom and only after checking in at the Office. 6. All community members need to check in at the Office any time they are on campus (even if you are on campus for just a moment). Please do not knock on classroom doors or interrupt instruction to deliver anything to your children or to give them a message. 7. If you would like to volunteer on campus, the Office needs a copy of your most recent TB test result (TB test results are valid for 4 years only) and you need to be fingerprinted in order to work with students. Please enquire in the Office for a copy of the fingerprinting form. This form is also available on the school website under the tab For Families at https://www.cusdk8.org/eaton
8. Please make sure your child has everything that they need for the day before they leave home. If your child has forgotten something, please place the items on the white table outside the office and remind them to check the table outside the Office for these forgotten items. We will not be interrupting the classroom/instruction to notify your children about forgotten items. 9. Students are not allowed to go to the sidewalk to pick up lunches, forgotten items from their car. The area in front of the Office is off limits to students during recess and lunch except to check the white table for lunches and other items. 10. Parents are to drop off lunches on the white table outside the Office and leave campus immediately. For safety reasons we need the area outside the Office clear at all times. 11. Parents are NOT allowed to go to the lunch tables to drop off lunches for their students. 12. Please make sure the gates around campus are closed during school hours. If you see a gate open during school hours, please help us by closing the gates behind you as you leave. 13. The student restrooms are NOT for adults. All adults need to use the restrooms in the Office. 14. Please make sure you or your daycare provider picks up your students o n time at dismissal. Students in Grades K-3 are dismissed at 3:05 p.m. and students in grades 4 & 5 are dismissed at 3:35 p.m. on all days except Tuesdays. On Tuesdays, dismissal for all grades is at 2:30 p.m. 15. Follow your child’s teacher before school drop off and after school dismissal procedures so students remain safe Also, friendly reminder that taking pictures or video of other students on campus is prohibited. If you would like to capture a memory with your phone or camera, please ensure no other student is in the background. The school does have a yearbook and celebrates student achievement in other ways and does so respectfully and safely. If you would like to opt out of having your child be in the school yearbook, Eagle Eye or classroom newsletters, school sponsored social media, and other similar forums, please schedule a meeting with the principal for more information. As part of its continued community outreach efforts, the Cupertino Union School District will host two, parent and community workshops at the Silicon Valley Fall Festival on Saturday, September 9th at Cupertino’s Memorial Park. This year we celebrate 35 years hosting the Silicon Valley Fall Festival and California’s Birthday! Whole Foods of Cupertino has donated Birthday Cupcakes in honor of this celebration! In addition, a Moon Cake will be presented and served. All school aged children are also encouraged to bring in their bicycles and helmets to participate in the Bike Rodeo between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. Please Join the Cupertino Union School District Staff Educational Breakout Sessions, 9:45 am to 2:30 pm Senior Center, Memorial Park in Cupertino 9:45 am-10:45 am Feel The Beat In The Street as we celebrate children's street games from around the world. Join Grainne O'Flynn, CUSD 4th/5th Grade Music Teacher in THE ART OF PLAY. All ages are welcome! 11:45 am-12:45 pm Where Everybody Belongs - WEB Middle School Program WEB, which stands for “Where Everybody Belongs” is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from our 8th-grade class to be WEB Leaders. As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the 6th graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate 6th-grade success. All ages are welcome to come and learn about the program and engage in activities. 1:30 pm-2:30 pm Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education. De Vargas Elementary School in the Cupertino Union School District's working vision is to create an academically rigorous K-5 STEM school that empowers self-motivated students to collaborate, think critically, solve problems and contribute to the global society through Project Based Learning (PBL). Learn about STEM education through the methodology of PBL and join DeVargas staff in an open-ended and hands on activity that fosters creativity and critical thinking.
