FIRST READING: Amos 5:6-7, 10-15 Amos was a herdsman by profession and a prophet by God’s call. During a time of great prosperity in the northern kingdom of Israel, the prophet speaks to the wealthy upper class. He warns his listeners that fulfilling God’s demand for justice brings blessing, while corruption and oppression incur God’s wrath. SECOND READING: Hebrews 4:12-16 We cannot hide our thoughts, desires, and actions from God, to whom we are completely accountable. Nevertheless, Jesus understands our human weakness and temptations, because he also experienced them. Therefore we can approach the throne of grace to receive divine mercy from Christ. GOSPEL: MARK 10:17-31 Jesus has been teaching his disciples about what is most valued in God’s eyes. Now, a conversation with a rich man brings his message home to the disciples in a way that is surprising but unforgettable. Your annual pledge helps us forecast, with confidence, the level of financial support our congregation will receive in the year ahead. It is through the pledges and contributions of our members that we are able to carry on our work here at Mamrelund. As you consider your pledge, we remind you that we offer Electronic Giving as a way to automate your offerings. It is convenient for you and provides much-needed consistency for the church. Collection basket offerings can fluctuate significantly from week to week, but when contributions are automated, the church receives the funds it needs on a steady, uninterrupted basis. Please visit the church website at www.mamrelund.weebly.com and locate the ”Donate to Mamrelund” button. This takes you to the giving page and you can set up either recurring or one-time contributions. Or, if you wish, you may also complete a paper authorization form and return it to the Church Office or to Susan Foxworthy. These forms are located on the usher table in the Narthex. Call Susan at 616-675-7584 if you have any questions.
