Get involved to make high school memorable I am now only two weeks into my senior year, and I am already starting to get emotional. This past week was my last high school homecoming, which meant my last homecoming variety show, my last homecoming pep rally, my last Hear me. . . homecoming football game and my last homecoming Olivia Nieman dance. It has really hit me that this year is going to be full of “lasts.” Over the past few years of high school, I have made so many great memories and met so many awesome people, and I am nowhere near ready to leave it all behind in a few

short months. So, my advice to all underclassmen would be to truly make the most of your four years of high school. You have all heard way too many times that high school goes by fast, but that is only because it is so true. Get involved in as much as you can and attend as many events as you can, because in the end you are only going to regret the things you didn’t do. I know from my own experience that high school can be hard at times, but when I look back on the past few years, the good definitely outweighs the bad. Although I am going to be sad when it finally comes time to leave WHS this fall, I am so happy that I have had the opportunity to make so many memories here over the past four years and I wouldn’t trade that experience for anything. Senior Olivia Nieman is having a great senior year so far.

Emmys a night of big drama By Rene Lynch and Susan King Los Angeles Times (TNS) LOS ANGELES — Winter is over for “Game of Thrones.” HBO’s fantasybased epic came in from the cold and won TV’s top drama prize after a four-year freezeout that many had blamed on a bias against genre programming. That changed at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday evening at the Microsoft Theater when the series won four Emmys — for drama series, directing, writing and supporting actor for Peter Dinklage. The Television Academy warmed to “Thrones” in a big way, giving the series eight awards last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys, making its 12 wins the most any series has won in a single season. HBO reigned supreme on the comedy front as well when “Veep” dethroned fivetime winner “Modern Family” for top comedy series. The political satire nabbed four trophies, including a fourth-consecutive lead actress win for Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It also won for writing and earned a supporting actor prize for Tony Hale. But the most notable win of the night came with lead actress in a drama. Viola Davis won for her performance as a win-at-all-costs attorney in “How to Get Away with Murder” — marking the first time in Emmy history that an African-American had won in this category. “The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity,” Davis said in an emotional and impassioned acceptance speech. “Here’s to all the writers,” she said, “… people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a beautiful woman, to be black.”
