FSUSD Community Kris Corey, Superintendent Monday Recap

Thanks, once again, to our teachers and nurses. I hope they felt appreciated this past week. Their work is so important to our students and to our future! Last week was a busy one with two Board meetings. Tuesday was the Board Self-Evaluation meeting. We have revised the protocol three times since I became superintendent. I believe this last meeting was closer to what the Board wants as far as an evaluation meeting. We will bring the CSBA instrument that Pat Shamansky suggested to the Governance Subcommittee meeting, to include in the protocol upon board approval. Thursday night’s meeting was great as we honored our World Robotics Team. The small Board recognition does not fully express how proud we are of our robotics program! Our goal is to expand these types of STEM opportunities throughout the district. KUDOS! A huge welcome to Michelle Henson, our new Assistant Superintendent of Business Services. Michelle will start with us full time in June. We are very excited to have her join our team.

Superintendent Kris Corey

Congratulations to Cara Mendoza Ed.D., who was approved as the Tolenas Elementary principal last evening. Cara came to speak with me a few weeks back inquiring about the position. She told me, “I have always had my eye on that school. I would love to commit my next five years to that school.” Woo-hoo! Congratulations also go to Roxane Liu who has accepted a position in the Brentwood School District. Roxane will be the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. We will greatly miss Roxane and her leadership when she leaves us at the end of June, and wish her the very best with this promotion! Unfortunately, I didn’t have any site visits last week.  My highlights included the ACSA Every Student Succeeding Event, the HGR Open Forum, the Armijo Financial Literacy Graduation, and the final Parent Leader meeting. The ACSA event was truly inspirational. We honored Guadalupe Cruz Rosales from Grange. (Thanks Grange fan club!) Jasmine Wong from RHS received a scholarship on the same evening. The HGR Open Forum was essentially a love fest! I am so proud of that team of educators who work so collaboratively together to make a difference in the lives of students and their families. The Financial Literacy graduation was the largest ever. I am grateful that the students received this important instruction. It was fun practicing for the real graduation. I was able to shake hands with seniors and inquire about their future plans. Every student that I asked, but one, had plans for the military, community college, four-year college/university, or a trade school! The parent leader meeting was fantastic. We are so blessed in FSUSD to have such committed parents who care about their individual schools and the district as a whole. “What Students Remember” is my latest blog at http://www.superintendentcorey.blogspot.com Follow me on Twitter @CoreyKrisc
