Registration opens for special education fair Registration is open for the first Southwest Washington Special Education Conference and Resource Fair, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., April 28, at Prairie High School. Hosted by the PHS Special Education Department, the fair, which is free, is designed to provide resources to families of children and young adults with special needs, regardless of the nature of their disability. Annie Lamberto, special education teacher at Prairie High, said the fair is intended to be of help to parents, guardians, children and others who serve disabled persons 21 or younger. Persons from Southwest Washington and the Portland area are welcome. Participants will include vendors, non-profit agencies and local and state organizations. The conference will offer workshops, an exhibit hall and door prizes to be given away at the end of the day. The first 500 registrants will receive a gift bag of resources for the disabled. Vancouver author Connie Ruth Christiansen will give a keynote address at 9:10 a.m. There will be a free continental breakfast, courtesy of iQ Credit Union. The school store will be open with some lunch items. Workshops and other breakout sessions include guardianship, estate planning and trusts, exercise, cooking, music therapy, social skills, bully safety, early language literacy, systems navigation, love and logic, brain research and homework help.
